“Free Solo” Filmmakers Capture Dramatic Rescue of 13 From Thai Cave | Amanpour and Company

In 2018, the world was mesmerized by the life-and-death story of 12 schoolboys and their soccer coach trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand. A new documentary dives into this story with never-before-seen footage. "The Rescue," by Academy Award-winning directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, reveals the peril of the daring mission. The husband-and-wife team speaks with Hari Sreenivasan about the miraculous rescue.

Nothing short of a miracle. I watched this film last week, think about it every day since then. I’m an anesthetist, I understand the immense risk. They did it right. The filmmakers deserve an award. The divers deserve every accolade that can be given. The anesthesiologist was beyond brave. The divers were beyond brave. I can’t stop thinking about this story. There are some wonderful people in this world. It’s restored my faith in the goodness in people. Jimmy and Chai, thank you 🙏 ❤️

The movie is incredible, got to see it last night. Have you seen Meru and Free Solo? Those movies don't have the incredible story of the children, but part of the reason I so wanted to see this one was because of Jimmy and Chai's work on those movies. Dawn Wall is also very good, but not Jimmy Chin.

@@caseyclausen2627 totally agree on all of the above and saw The Rescue last night, a story that i didnt know the full extent, what anamazing group of men from around the globe. I`ve helped out on cave diving and done some potholing in the Yorkshire Dales and its truly scary stuff down there, certain men are capable of showing no fear, the likes of marc Andre Leclerc ,alex hOnnold and the british divers

I saw the movie "Thirteen Lives" and I couldn't sleep 3 nights in a row... it was traumatic for me... One thing I couldn't understand... There were very narrow passages of 40 cm .... So my question is: How the boys made their way through them even when the cave was dry ?

Watched The Rescue last night. One of the best documentaries I have ever seen. So filled with hear warming emotion. Inspiring to reflect on the wonders of humanity as well as being grateful for what we have in life.

Such a great interview, the moderator was excellent in leading and moulding the storytelling!!! The Rescue I think is so much better than the movie Thirteen Lives. I saw The Rescue so many times and I never tire of it….. definitely a story of the goodness of humanity.

I’m a technical cave diver. It’s what we do. We save lives no matter race, religion, or creed children are children. The moment they found them knowing the route they took having to explore a cave they’ve never been in. And Cave Diving we have a code we don’t leave anyone behind.

Great film watched it twice, if you get a chance to watch another of there films Free Solo also outstanding, massive respect to the Navy Seal who lost his life, I’ve done some wreck diving around the UK, cave diving is just off the scale and that’s without trying to save a child at the same time.

The two divers that no one are talking about are the two that when the "British" divers refused to dive that they went in and laid line to within a short distance from the trapped team (these divers were accepted into the Thai navy seals group as the "British" were insular, I also wonder if its the same British divers that refused to recover the two bodies of the divers in a cave in Europe and the divers friends went and recovered the bodies in spite of that, those two divers that laid the line deserve a massive amount of credit and the Aussie doc, is what it is.

Those two divers you are referring to only laid line to the t-junction which is between chamber five and six. The boys were in chamber nine so the claim you make that they were within a short distance of the team is a stretch at the best. The diver you are promoting threw a tantrum as he was all for rushing and taking risks as evidence by the fact that he went into the cave by himself breaking a watch in the process. He left the cave site a full three days before the boys were rescued. The British divers and the two doctors from Australia ultimately took the most risks. As for why they didn't retrieve the body of the diver it is easy to understand if you know why. They didn't have the equipment to be able to cut the body of the diver out of the cave as he was well wedged in and they couldn't get him out even if they tried. The diver was freed later by divers from Europe when they went back with cutting equipment to get him out. Lots of people deserve credit for what happened in that cave but you haven't stopped and acknowledged them now have you

Why are there people, that always try to destroy a fantastic story of humanity working together. The British divers took the line the whole way in, they are highly experienced & question everything, equipment the lot. Brit divers weren’t the first out there, they never denied the work done getting the line as far as possible or those that did it. Brits were asked to take charge, they belong to the Brit. Cave Rescue Council with huge experience. U.K. is full of dodgy stuff to learn from. Brits on the whole never seek publicity- a safe operation is what matters and to the finest detail taken.

Yeah I don't get why there are people on here that are trying to discredit the British divers. Everyone there took a major risk and put their lives at risk so I don't know how or why someone who hasn't done that themselves feels they have the right to ruin someone else's reputation when they themselves have never done anything like that before in their lives.
