Sleep, quantity, quality, and consistency thereof, fixes so many problems. Healthy diet fixes a lot of what's left. Obviously there are some things that even diet and sleep can't fix, but make sure you are good on those two things first, and then see what, if anything, still remains after that.

Totally true, unfortunately it's also a vicious cycle, where bad mental health leads to neglecting your basic needs, which leads to more anxiety, deeper depression, which leads to more self-neglect, and so on 🥲 personally i found anti-depressants worked pretty well to break that cycle, and get me to where i was able to get back up and take on life one problem at a time rather than being overwhelmed and numb.

Yes and excercise has been repeatedly demonstrated to do better than prescribed drugs and weekly therapy. Therapists rarely mention this since $150 a week for life is way better for them
@prosperenfantinylosgeograf27216 ай бұрын
@@jaylewis9876 What I've seen is that exercise by itself is not necessarily better than therapy or meds (and much less therapy and meds), so I'm curious about your sources.
@jaylewis98766 ай бұрын
@@prosperenfantinylosgeograf2721 It shows up in every study that has tested it. Most studies use sugar for comparison instead. Sugar itself has effects on the mind so its a curious choice. Why not salt? Or a multivitamin?
@prosperenfantinylosgeograf27216 ай бұрын
@@jaylewis9876 I don't know. I found a few meta analysis that agree with you, some that don't, and some that lay somewhere in between: "There were no differences in treatment effectiveness among the three main interventions (exercise vs antidepressants: standardised mean differences, SMD, −0.12; 95% CI −0.33 to 0.10, combination versus exercise: SMD, 0.00; 95% CI −0.33 to 0.33, combination vs antidepressants: SMD, −0.12; 95% CI −0.40 to 0.16), although all treatments were more beneficial than controls. Exercise interventions had higher drop-out rates than antidepressant interventions (risk ratio 1.31; 95% CI 1.09 to 1.57)." I definitely agree that exercise should be proposed to patients, but I also know of ppl who exercised a lot and were still quite depressed, and meds helped them more... Ultimately there is a lot of variance between people.

I tend to feel like I flip between the two extremes in my worst moments. One instant, I am freaking out about how little I accomplish in the day, and the next, I lack the energy, drive, and will to do anything about it. You always did have ways of helping me seek the middle of the window.

This was, by far, one of the most important conceptual ideas I learned in dialectical behavioral therapy. It created the vital foundation for further tool usage in therapy. As long as you can tap in and assess your arousal level, you can start to break down what tools might be useful given your current state and where you're trying to push yourself. The first step of recognizing your emotional arousal level can be so tough, so to anyone reading this who has struggled just to get through the first step, keep going! All new skills take practice, and you can do it. This was a message wonderfully delivered, as always, Anna. Thank you. 🖤

Yeah well I learned about the same thing a little bit differently... it's called setting boundaries and going out of your comfort space. If you have good boundaries you don't need to consider the negative consequences and if you need stimulation you just need to get out of your comfort space and try something new.

I tend to end up in hypo as a result of going into hyper. Like, crash. It's a little hard to shake out because I tend to realize only afterwards, because, well, when I'm not *present*, I'm not making choices, I'm just on autopilot. Upside, I tend to come out of it finding I did something I would ordinarily put off. So maybe the bathroom is clean, or I did laundry, or something. Handy, but I think that's not the healthiest way to get those chores done.
