As a 60 *cough cough* year old skint bass player I've recently got into home recording and am getting to grips with the wonderful world of DAWs. I've downloaded a few free/cheap synths and have spent many happy hours sifting through the presets without the faintest idea of how they worked. I wouldn't know an LFO from a UFO. I've tried tweaking knobs and buttons with zero success and watched numerous YT vids that left me more confused than ever. Then YT pointed me in your direction. I am therefore eternally grateful to you for 1) introducing me to Vital and 2) explaining in clear, concise and logical terms, not only how Vital works but also simultaneuosly the basics of synthesis and which bit does what to which. Within 5 minutes I'd come up with my first, admittedly very basic, synth pad - it was like discovering as a 5 year old that I could ride a bike without stabilisers - revelatory. Thank you so much for your tutelage. Instantly subbed and I will now begin trawling your archive. Cheers!

Reminds me of that Calvin Harris song lyric....Pushing knobs pushing faders but I don't know what they do . I agree though, I know have a rough idea of what things do! Had no idea you could link each thing together like that. I assume if you actually know what you are doing, you could create an entire song from scratch all in this synth with no samples or anything. Any sound can likely be achieved with the know-how or enough messing!

I'd also recommend getting into orchestration with virtual sample libraries. It is a whole lot of fun, once you know how to arrange music(voice leading, counterpoint, and spacing rules, etc) and orchestral textures. It can really add a whole new dimension to a composer/musician.

Bought the 25 $ version because I want to make sounds from scratch (don't care so much for presets, all though they are really good), had it for roughly 4 hours and... Wow! The interface is so clear and logical, the workflow is intuitive (if you have experience with synths, of course) and inspiring sounds are a breeze to make. I'm barely scratching the surface, there is so much potential here, losing hours modulating the modulators, adding randomisation to anything... This synth has reignited my love of sound design, it really is that good! Please support this project financially if you can, Matt Tytel absolutely deserves it. I kind of regret not paying 80$ now...

It's worth pointing out that not all the modulation sources are displayed on an initial preset setting. There are, in fact, 6 envelopes, 8 LFOs and 4 randoms available to you. They become available as you use up those initially displayed so after assigning (say LFO4) you will find an LFO5 available to you, and so on.

Micheal, please tell Mr. Tytel that we all thank him for the dedication he has put into this synthesizer. One can drag this over any control, and upon doing so, that control can have different values for the left and right channel (the difference is adjustable, of course!). @@myke.p It was in a vital video from last week. It popped up on the menu and he said oops I'm not allowed to show that this early. I can't remember whose video it was unfortunately. I immediately checked and my $25 version did not have the menu option.

I adore the visuals in this synthesizer. Phase and flanger never really made sense to me, but after seeing what is happening to the sound with it, it all makes sense

Could you ask the Vital developers to fix the visual glitch in Helm? I recently downloaded it, and the interface of the plugin was a mess (literally, not that I feel lost or so). While searching for a solution on google I found out I wasn't the only one with this problem. Turned out I have to go to my settings and set the Windows OS scaling to 100% (instead of 125%, which is the default setting). But as you can imagine, that is really, really, really annoying since everything looks so small. I heard this plugin was dope, so I hope I will be able to use it properly ;-)

I think if you press the Vital logo in your VST, you can adjust the visuals to scale them correctly.

Oh that looks like my dream software synth. The visuals and controls are so connected and precise. The innerworkings so modular but internally consistent, and intuitively interfaced for quick and creative work with a precise final sound for sure. I'm gonna try it.

I was going to buy the full version of Serum few days ago but gathering the resources to do so, i'm very glad i've found out about Vital, it's new and it's competitive and it's better to give it a chance since most of the Serum's stuff and presets will also work on Vital.

I don't think so. I would be a little bit tentative with these sorts of comments. Matt is amazing and I dont think he would like to be seen as the man who tried to ruin someone elses career. Remember that Serum will still stay on the market. It has a gazillion of presents and many many people are very familiar with it and will keep using it. So let's just enjoy how awesome Vital is
