Producers are usually afraid when open sytrus for the first time, seems too complex, but with that comes a huge flexibility and power. Sytrus and Harmor are easily the most powerfull synths of FL Studio. If you learn how to use them, external synths are virtually unnecesary. Great explanation! I made the same in depth, almost 2 hrs of videos lol.

Sytrus is really goddamn great and I use it all the time, BUT, I wish it had: - automatable waveshape parameters (tension, shape, skew, sine shaper) - the same in-envelope visualization (playback header visualization along the x-axis whe you play the patch, showing where you're going!) as Harmor, Serum, Vital etc; it's just easier to see where you're going; note - this would be Very Helpful Whenever There's Many Envelopes Going On at the Same time and when tweaking the patch afterwards! It's easy enough to adjust the envelope without visual cues when you're BUILDING the sound - but Afterwards, going back to it and tweaking requires a lot of imagination, since you may have many different envelopes! It can get confusing really fast. It literally reguires you to make your own extensive notes for the patch! - a modulation matrix too (simply because it's easy to forget what you have and haven't done despite the orange bars; there's so many tabs to browse when checking - also, if you don't have sustain set as the end point of an envelope, the longest envelope determines the sustain Length of the whole patch! That's not in the manual c:)

One note about the video: Turning up the FX knob on a operator row will send that operator *raw* signal through the effects and output that. If you want the filters to be applied before the FX, you have to turn up the FX knob that sits on that filter row in the matrix. Neat thing about the operators in Sytrus: you can set them up so they're working with multiples of the fundamental frequency (1x, 2x, 3x, 0.5x) , good for getting say a sub voice, or a harmonizing voice one fifth above the fundamental; or you can set them up so they're running at a constant frequency (say, 10Hz), useful for ring modulation. One neat trick using FM is setting up one OP (I usually do it with OP6) with a constant frequency, say 4Hz and using it to modulate the other operators. Vibrato! You can then control OP6 volume to define how much vibrato you want, through an envelope, etc.
@Zildawolf2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for adding this!! I noticed him turning up the fx knob in the operator row instead of the fx row and was very confused. This clarified it perfectly! Also, thank you for the helpful tips!
@nostan19994 жыл бұрын
I've been waiting for this! Sytrus is one of my favourite synths and it's a shame it gets neglected fairly often. The 6 oscillators really give you so much control, and so many ways to get to whatever sound you're looking for. Some of the other things that weren't mentioned, but are really cool: 1) Harmonic editor - Really powerful for shaping sound. Allows you to additively synthesize sounds and merge that with the FM matrix and subtractive elements to really shape sound. There's one for each of the 6 oscillators. 2) Unison editor - You can individually control parameters like volume, panning, pitch, modulation amount, etc. for each unison voice. Seriously powerful.

Such a powerful and underrated synth. It's a beast. My favorite thing about it is the numerous ways you can morph, manipulate and recreate every sound into something completely different and new. I recreated about 85% of the sytrus soundbank several years ago. Little hidden gem: go to the sequencers section in the bank and one by one deconstruct them using the matrix. You'll reveal all kinds of cool sounds and loops you can use in your tracks.
