I really enjoyed the last bit :) thanks. I think this was also useful in deepening our understanding of these concepts so we can apply it better to our course, on top of it being very interesting !

when i first had a lesson on free will and determinism i was a free will girlie through and through. until we got given evidence. now i'm not a person who spits in the face of evidence just because it goes against what i believe, so very very unfortunately for me i now (regrettably) believe in determinism. i tried to be all clever and ask miss 'what if i act differently because of how i grew up? i am purposely going against what is determined of me, no?' and she mentioned something called 'free won't' (i'm not really sure) anyway that was the worst day of my life :'( but it makes you wonder, if you found out you had no free will, what would you do with the information? would you choose to k1ll yourself (or is that really a choice?) or carry on as is? i suppose it depends about what type of life you have. i always imagine life as a tv show and 'god' is that one fella in the writers room messing everyone around for plot reasons. if your life is like a chill tv show who's to complain? but if it's like perks of being a wallflower instead and it seems that everything that has happened to you is determined then i wouldn't be very happy like what if my life's like the truman show, or the matrix, or even something like deadpool? when the fella knows he's a character and can break the fourth wall... what would you do with this information? carry on being the character which someone else has control of or try and change things despite the futility of it all? sorry for the rant i doubt anyone's gonna read this but, it's a levels innit so i'm procrastinating while having multiple existential crises. i'll just have to read the myth of sisyphus again and have a coffee also if you get to the bottom of this text mr psych boost i want to thank you personally for all your fabulous videos. they're flipping amazing

Cheers Elek, I read all my comments 😅 Existential crisis is the cost of thinking deeply about these things. If you get the chance read some stoic philosophy, it's actually really understandable compared to most philosophy, and it's about how to live well, even in a world that is sometimes challenging. Good luck with those A levels! 👍

@@PsychBoost if you could recommend some books that'll be fab! i've got some albert camus and jean-paul sartre books in my shelf which are gathering lots of dust (i'm waiting till after exams to read them lmao) i like to read religious books too cuz i find that even as a staunch atheist, good points have been made. you should read the book of ecclesiates in the bible - for something written over 2500 years ago it's got so many points still relevant today. and it's very good to avert any existential crises. i'm fascinated by religion and how people use it to help themselves but personally it ain't for me. i read about these twin studies once where twins who were separated at birth always seemed to have the same level of religious belief. so perhaps there's a genetic factor in it which is interesting. i'd love to research more psychological reasons behind religion. it's too interesting. i fear i may have picked the wrong uni course. i'm pretty sure there was a psychology and theology one somewhere... damn. anyway i appear to have digressed and rambled again sorry lmao. i hope there was a point made in there. i can't remember what i was originally trying to say...

damn the bit at end actually came in clutch for 16 marker on determinism this year

Really? I was in two minds about leaving it in, good to know!

@@PsychBoost i feel like it gave more of a debate and deeper analysis in my 16 marker than just regurgitating the ao3 bits. i was tying in the eval to the significance of saying something is determinist and the consequences that has. happy that out of all the I+D vids i watched it was this one and yeah the end bit deffo helped me
