Thanks for giving the XFM some more love, I thought you'd enjoy it 😁 Btw try the Pocket Operator compatible sync settings. Set Clock\Source to 'Ln.In' and it will accept a click alongside audio over the line in. Set Clock\A.Out to 'On' and it will add a click to the left channel of the headphone output so you can sync to or from the XFM that way

M.RVB is MONO REVERB. Pg. 14 of the manual. PS. Oops I see Avrilcadabra already said that. Thanks for the video anyway!!! Yes it's a great idea to use Liven XFM effects with other devices from that range that don't have effects, like Korg Volcas or Microfreak or Craftsynth-2.

@@FreeBeat Thanks! I found Chis’s tutorials, otherwise I would not have jumped in and bought. It’s such an incredible sounding FM synth and oh so deep. I got a bit lucky, bought used a few days before the price hike. 🍀 I like to start by finding interesting sounds and tweaking them to make them unique. The pattern DHL5 is really killer. I’ll fiddle with these sounds to make them my own. Thanks for the great videos, keep jamming (and play with the FX!)

Good thinking, I used the 8-bit warps line in for FX many times, it has quite good reverb but as far as I recall only the Reverb can be applied to the line in, not the other FX. So this is interesting. . M.Reverb is mono reverb if I remember correctly. It's easier on the CPU, (was not enough processing power left for the big 8 bit warps reverb on the xfm). You would enjoy the 8-bit warps I think. It's not specifically that great at chiptune but can make some great modern sounds, an the FX at least the internal engines sort of stackable, you can put delay and the big reverb on for example (but not delay and chorus)

Another fine and useful video. Since you got the liven xfm, I have been encouraged to buy one. Now I see the use of TE PO’s I am further encouraged. In the not too distant future, I will buy some of them. I need your much respected advice.Which PO is best for the following duties. 1. Melody building. 2. Bass lines. 3. Drum sequencing. Keep up the good work and if possible, more on the xfm and the deluge. Many thanks
@FreeBeat2 жыл бұрын
The PO-33 is going to be the best one for doing all of those at once, as it's a 4 sample polyphonic sampler. I also really like the Arcade, Speak, and Megaman for full on melody writing. Be careful not to fall into the trap of buying too many though, once you have 3-5 of them they will total up to be more expensive than a lower level groovebox like the Circuit Tracks and Rhythm, Model:Cycles or Model:Samples, etc. Thanks for watching!

As others have said page 14 of the manual lists what the 4 letter FX names mean and M.RVB is indeed listed as "mono reverb" but sadly this is where the manual fails (and Chris Lody's and your videos start to become vital). There's nothing more to say what the real difference is. By implication I guess we can assume "RVB" (just described as "Reverb") must really be "stereo reverb" but how are we, as users/readers, supposed to know what that really means and how we might expect M.RVB to be significantly different to RVB? As anyone who's used XFM for any time will know, this thing is "deep" like blackhole heading to infinity deep and it's probably got some of the cleverest of very clever stuff buried deep in there. The designers obviously knew what they intended every last feature to do and be used for but if they can't get that detail over to the end user in either a more detailed manual or tutorial features then some of the functionality might as well not be there. Hopefully by degrees, a lot of exploration and an increasing number of tutorial videos the details will eventually creep out. But as someone who's been designing consumer electronics, writing software and writing end user manuals for years I know that a product is only as good as its user manual. At least the opportunity is there for someone to make some money writing a detailed/user friendly guide ;-) Anyone who's used this knows it deserves to succeed. It's probably more value for money than anything you can buy (even after the price increase that's been forced on them) but if people get it out of the box and can't work out how to operate everything it could be an utter work of genius (it is!) but it might fail to get the market share it deserves. (IMAO) PS have you discovered Sweep yet? It's better demonstrated in some of the 8bit warps rather than XFM videos on KZbin but it's a real cool effect hiding in there and again I don't think the manual does it justice until you see it demonstrated and know what it's really intended to do.
@FreeBeat2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's exactly why I made that very simple quickstart guide first. I can't imagine how many folks unboxed this, couldn't even change presets, and set it aside. Hoping to get a lot more people into the XFM! I haven't tried out the sweep yet, but I have seen it in a few tutorials. Thanks for watching!

I would suspect that the M.REV is a modulated reverb, though I can't find any description of any of the effects anywhere. I wonder is what reverb parameter is being modulated and by what... The documentation seems to be a bit sparce with regards to the effects... LOL!
@FuZZbaLLbee2 жыл бұрын
Was thinking the same thing, there is probably a knob that controls the modulation rate
