I surf, wakeskate, wakeboard, long board. Been doing it all for many years brought a freebord and i love it! They are really hard to get the hang of because i find that they are easier to control with more speed but speed on something that you have no idea how to control is abit sketchy... all the haters are just keyboard warriors get off ya desk and become a freebord warrior.

@ryanwilliams6478
@ryanwilliams6478 4 жыл бұрын
ryan alfonso Not without a motor like they have in top notch boards that sell for like $1,000-1,500. It’s hard to ride flat ground bc, like the comment said, you need some speed in order to enact the “slide” feeling. For sure get the hang of heel-toe slides by just sitting on a table or bench with the board underneath you and practice the slides - then bomb the hill! (Progressively going higher on a nice hill till you can handle the whole thing) Good luck!

To all the people that are complaining that this is not longboarding, well you are right. But you are ALL missing the point because it is meant to act as a simulation for snowboarding. Either way think what you want, in no way is this guy trying to go against longboarding.

Steep learning curve for sure, especially if you have no background with snowboarding. I'm 40 years old, and I got the hang of it... eventually. It took a couple weeks, But once you start linking turns and slides it's great. So much fun I couldn't stop laughing and smiling. Invest in protection. Pads, helmet and wrist guards are a must in the beginning.

I learned at age 50. Thankfully I’ve been snowboarding since 1985. After several struggling runs with lack of control, I changed to riding it exactly like it was a snowboard and had immediate success. I definitely prefer well paved roads opposed to old fractured pavement. Definitely helps when you’re “jonesin” for snow. Totally agree on full safety gear.

I appreciate that Freebord has put together this beginners guide, it will help point new comers in the right direction. However, I feel that an updated vid may be in order to address some common mistakes that beginner riders make. Maybe even an intermediate vid into how to do more advanced movements, such as spins. My local Freebord scene is flooded with beginners selling freebords because they can't grasp it. Based on my demographic, I feel this is due to a combination of a lack of snowboarding knowledge/technique and minimal tutorials on how to ride it not like a skateboard. More videos please!?

Yea man speed is your friend! I was really frustrated when i first started, i wanst getting slides, only carves. Then you really need to step it up a notch before you can slide. Try loosening the kingpin as well. I found once i bought my full protection gear my confidence shot up alot and thus speed increased.!

Ok, I turned 60 this year and had a stroke 15 days before my birthday. Skated,surfed and biked my complete life. Now I have some kind of vestibular problem. i. e. My balance is coming back but slowly. This is the first time I've seen this board and it looks like it's going to be my goal to get one and learn to ride it! I live in Maryland. Where can I get this? Still in therapy so I've got some time but this looks so fun! Thanks.

Biltospill No, you can't snowboard on the road with 4 wheels and no bindings but you can with 6 wheels and attached to the board. Also don't assume that I don't skate just because I freebord. They're completely different sports with different purposes; skateboards are good for skating, freebords are good for snowboard simulation.

@Ben-ph3gb
@Ben-ph3gb 4 жыл бұрын
Okay I bought a freebord and I can attest that what I said before still is true. The wheels take a long time to wear down and I use them each day vigorously. The wheels will need replacing but not soon. Some pros also said in a video reply that it takes months for their wheels to need replacing but they are going super fast and they know they always will have access to new wheels so they don't need to take as good of care. with these types of boards you can control the amount of pressure you put on the wheel when power-sliding so you can increase longevity of the wheel.
@shofarsogood7504

@@Ben-ph3gb hmm maybe they updated the wheels. My experience was different. My wheels were shot in less than a month. Like two hard stops and they were done. But like I say I have one from when they first came out with the red wheels.

Please consider doing and updated/extended version of learning to ride with this latest batch of freeboards released to the market. Tutorial content seems limited and so are meetups with other people who could help teach you since this is such a niche product. This video is a good start but I think it needs to go further into how the weight distribution of each foot, your body, and your head play a role in controlling the board.

Questions to the beginners like me: Do you also think that the screw on the pivot wheel must be as far as possible at the beginning? In my opinion, this is complete nonsense. It is easier to fall off the board. The body tilts more at the carve and is worse. Yes, it causes bigger rocker but also bigger problems at the beginning. What is your experience?
@anawara
@anawara 4 жыл бұрын
I think the idea is to make the rocker bigger so you can avoid catching an edge. I haven't tried this before so I might be completely wrong, but it looks like it has similar mechanics to snowboarding. When you snowboard and carve you need to squat a bit. Bend your knees. This keeps your weight on the board and your center of gravity low. If you don't do that you will slide out. So the key is to lower your center of gravity, and that will give you more stability. I suspect this might be why you feel like the rocker makes it easier to fall off while carving. If you're keeping your legs straight, then your center of gravity is high, and so when you tilt the board your body weight will pull you down and you won't have enough stability to handle that. Watch some snowboarders carve and notice how low they get when carving. Also make sure when you're on your heel edge to not arch your back so you're bending your body forward, it'll most definitely pull your board to the toe edge and you will catch that edge. Same thing with your toe edge, lean into it with bent knees, straight back and tuck in your hips. If you stick your butt out, you'll catch the heel edge and fall on your back. Again I haven't tried this myself. But I've watched some videos of ppl learning and they all had that incorrect body posture which is very common when beginning to snowboard. Hope this helps! Good luck!

I totally agree, many people will benefit on smaller hills with less rocker, but if your gonna bomb a steep hill more rocker would not be bad.

+_ Justinlbdr _ To be fair the wheels that could be flatspotted aren't the wheels your weight is actually riding on. They only touch the ground when you lean the board to slide/carve and you aren't putting that much weight on them to do that. The caster wheels are what takes most of your weight, and those aren't going to be flatspotted.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ANY OF YOU "REAL SKATERS" OR "LONGBOARDERS" CARVE DOWN A HILL LIKE YOU CAN WITH A FREEBORD. And I mean like actually carve, like on a snowboard. Not longboarding's idea of carving. And I'm saying that I actually want to see this. You don't have a video of it being done. Don't waste my time. Time to put up or shut up longboarding elitists.

+Kevin Walker I've seen some longboarders that can do continual 180 slides down a hill and do some crazy long slides, but that is beside the point. Freebords aren't meant to be like skateboards or longboards at all! They are meant to feel like a snowboard that rides on pavement and in that respect they do exactly what they were made to do because they feel just like a snowboard. Which means they feel absolutely nothing like a longboard. I can't see why people don't understand this.

No this is how you flat spot and waste wheels. Longboard sliding isn’t supposed to be like snowboard sliding. Longboard sliding is used to turn gradually using the lack of friction between the ground and wheels. Snowboards have little to no friction with the snow and the bottom of the board and can carve very nicely. Longboards have to have speed, the higher the speed the less the friction. As you slide you loose speed and gain friction. Snowboards don’t need as much speed to carve.

I'm a Longboard novice, i'm liking this idea of sliding with the middle wheels, but i'm curious about those feet bindings, are these standard or just for learners or for performing tricks? at a first look it seems hard with those to push yourself forward with a foot if you aren't on a slope or carving

... do longboards only use 2 wheels.. the point of this is that most of the time you are pivoting off the 2 center wheels and the other wheels are so you can carve deeper. Longboards are flat 4 wheels... so much easier. its like whats easier, driving a car or riding a motorcycle... yeah
