it's very helpfull for me. You install FreeBSD from point of view of Linux guy. I have not found vipw, visudo in FreeBSD handbook. I was surprised that it is available in bootonly ISO. Your configuration of Virtualbox it's very usefull. I finally found someone who knows about it and doesn't make another movie based on a handbook.

Great video. Any chance you could do a KVM/QEMU/KDE instruction video ?
@stephenstechtalks53772 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tony! Have you seen kzbin.info/www/bejne/oausiIuamNd-a6s ? As you can probably tell, it was quite blurry a lot of the time, with low performance. Still working on figuring out BSD graphics on Linux KVM!
@Tony-py1nh2 жыл бұрын
@@stephenstechtalks5377, Thanks for your quick response. I have watched the above mentioned video and found it very informational. By using your video and a video from another KZbin vlogger I was able to get FreeBSD with KDE running on KVM/QEMU. This was not an easy task due to video drivers for KVM/QEMU and mouse not working with xorg. Further research online lead me to using utouch-kmod & xf86-input-evdev and adding Input - EvTouch USB Graphics Tablet to Virt Manager to get mouse working properly. Then I used DRM KMod with rc.conf reference to kld_list=i915kms for graphics. This allowed me to get FreeBSD working at 1080p (even though I was hoping for 4K resolution) on KVM/QEMU and KDE. But as I mentioned this was not an easy task and I thought you might be able to provide us all with an easier method, or more new user friendly instruction video. BTW, I was able to get 4K resolution tweaking this video for VirtualBox. But, it is not stable and crashes. Regards, Tony

Hi Stephen, great video. Are you by any chance a similar video for installing FreeBSD 13.1 in a KVM/QEMU VM? I share your frustration finding the correct settings getting it installed in a UEFI based VM with properly working X11.
@stephenstechtalks53772 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, glad you like this one, and thanks for the suggestion! My prior BSD videos on the channel playlist are all on QEMU/KVM in case that is useful, and fixed resolutions are much easier however BSD drivers are non-existent afaik. :/

Hi Stephen Freebsd 13.1 is presenting some PKG download problems. Kde5 repository faults have been fixed and libre Office still not available Apache open Office works. Also networking did not pick up the network card in a new AMD Radeon R 5. Also did not recognise GPU. An easy fix with NVIDIA and mode set. All working very well

What determines that at system startup we have such a nice logo of FreeBSD in graphic mode? Second: I disable XDM, when I exit Xorg my desktop is black I can't see CLI. CLI exist and working.
@stephenstechtalks5377 Жыл бұрын
If the OS supports EFI mode, it can inject the nice logo on boot. :) Your CLI may be on a different virtual console - have you checked them? people.freebsd.org/~blackend/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/consoles.html Good luck!
