They need to focus on the branding and have a social media presence for people to notice and understand their impact to donate. People who do CAD makes more money than people who making animations mostly, they can donate if they knew FreeCAD had an identity like Blender. IMO the name is sort of a problem, if there's a FREE in the name, then why would anyone pay any money for it. Blender isn't called Free3D or FreePolygon or something, lol. I love FreeCAD and I hope it does to the CAD industry what Blender has done to the CGI industry, but the FC people need to make a lot of changes for that to happen.

Just like Blender, hopefully FreeCAD will have a massive impact in the CAD world. Making CAD accessible to everyone, creating more competition and innovation among CAD softwares. I really hope you guys will make a separate YT channel for FreeCAD because it doesn't cost any money and put more effort on the branding and social media presence like Blender to create an identity like Blender, because for FOSS, community is everything.

I'm using it last months, including RC versions. It's useable, but in RC2, I could not model array of additive helix to make a thread for a PET bottle. In RC4 it worked. Then I run to the issue that I can't create shell with -3mm offset, but if i start with -1mm and gradually increase it, it works. For me it's not always obvious what is skill issue and what is a bug. Otherwise it's good enough for me so far so thanks for good but a bit awkard product. Actually summer nighly builds are already better than a stable release.

Connect with KZbinrs, specially in 3d printing ones, who are fed up with the rug pull from Fusion 360. There is a massive audience waiting for this. My experience of CAD software as an engineer is that all of them are painful to use. I've used Solidworks, NX, Creo, Inventor and can't say I actually "like" any of them. You're always having to experiment and modify your workflow to work around crashes, inefficient UI designs, bugs and other quirks. Haven't used FreeCAD much, the UI is still very confusing to navigate but it's fairly easy to start exporting STEP and STL files without frustrations. I like the dark scheme and Blender navigation style where it's easy to pan and spin parts. I just hope they eventually overhaul and simplify the toolbar interface so that users don't have to sift through 30 indistinguishable icons for the function they want to use. But even now I'd rather use FreeCAD than the cloud-based Autodesk Fusion 360.
@ahmedkj99232 ай бұрын
I am not engineer (yet) and i want start explore and start learning about cad software, I heard Autodesk Fusion 360 is the industrial standard and every company requires you to be experienced in it, Should I start with FreeCAD or pay for Autodesk Fusion 360? (sorry for my bad english).

@@ahmedkj9923 iirc Fusion is free for personal use (but some more advanced options are disabled) I'd say it's easier to get into CAD with Fusion, but later on when you'll have your footing, learn FreeCAD, especially if you think of doing freelancer work etc. Besides that, companys tend to use other software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidwork, NX, Catia... Every industry that require modelling has its own software preference, really.

I'll admit. Freecad does have it's quirks and minor issues. But overall, it's a pretty solid program. The big thing I can think of in terms of quality of life improvements is hardware accelaration and custom hotkeys. Other than that, it's a pretty solid but of CAD software. Assemblies function well enough for most applications, the benches while confusing at first, became a feature I miss with other CAD software. Keep up the good work to the freecad team and let's have many more years to come
