By way of a tad of feedback, I somehow got hung up when it became time to put in dimensions, as 1/2 of my sketch tools were blued-out. Hi, thanks for the best tutorial I have found so far. I am a 76 yo learning new tricks for my recently built DIY CNC and my first play with CNC machines and 3d modelling, although I have a lot of experience with 2D drafting CAD. Everything went fine with the tutorial right up to a fully constrained sketch all green. When I click close I do not get the menu to pad the sketch. Not getting the same menus as you has happened a number of times thru the tutorial but I have been able to overcome it, but not this time. Also when I click close I now have two sketches "sketch" which seems to be the correct constrained sketch AND "sketch 001" which does not seem complete when I highlight it. Any help gratefully appreciated. Kind Regards ..... Mike, Tasmania, Australia

Thank you very much, I have over the last few months enjoyed the toturials, I have especially looked for something about how the Tree works, what to take care of not doing and doing it in the right order, I have drawn a lot and deleted a lot , since I can not get the parts apart without messing it all up, a dream toturial for me, would be to draw a simple part, and make a top and a bottom from the surface of the 1st part, a mold / mold . I actually gave up the project with Freecad 19.0 and drew it in Vcarve pro as "layer cake" slices ((glued together)), or whatever you call it overthere;) I could also do it by hand without a PC, but thought it was more fun to draw it first in a cad program, but is freecad the right thing to draw mold in? thank you very much Regards JJ DK (Hobbyonly)

Good Day, Just started watching your video's and subscribed. I will be watching all your beginner video's to start with then progress from there. What I am really wanting to learn once I get the basics is how to draw house plans both in 2D and 3D, as I used to be a builder and worked as a site manager for a building company here in Australia before I retired. I have always loved drawing and have used AutoCAD Architectural as well as Fusion 360 and SketchUp, and I came across this program which I think will cover everything the other programs do. I also touched on Revit for a while. Have you thought of doing any video's on the concepts of house plans and the structures as I am sure you will get a lot of people interested in this. Just a thought as I said love your videos. Cheers Regards Kim. Thankyou.

Found the sketch constraints quite challenging, even after having used Solid Jerks a few years ago. Eventually found that one has to do the symmetrical constraints first before adding vertical and horizontal constraints, then dimensions last. Also ran into the dreaded over constrained condition which meant that I had to back track and start dropping off constraints to clear the over constrained condition warnings, which was a Pain in the butt. Is it not possible to do a tute on ways of resolving over constrained warnings. I notice that there is a toolbar icon specifically for this problem. But good tute thanks. I am using freecad 0.21.2 in a Linux OS.

Had the same problem: sketch turning orange, comment said "invalid sketch". Looking into the options, orange color is used for an invalid sketch, According to FreeCAD wiki, this is usually because the sketch is over constrained. Solution: while in the active sketch go to "menu>sketch>sketch tools>select redundant constraints". the sketch will show all redundant constraints. Now press "delete" en the problem is fixed. I'm using version 0.20.2 and my GUI is in Dutch, so it might be the text in the English version is slightly different from what I wrote above, but this is what it is about. According to the wiki, their is also a button "validate sketch", which might also solve the problem, but thus far I haven't found this button, my GUI is somewhat different from the one used in this movie

@@Adventuresincreation Thanks for getting back. I opened a new file and placed just a rectangle (only) tried symmetry constraint on both the vertical and the horizontal, the rectangle turns orange and does not constrain symmetrically. If l constrain diagonally selecting the the three points it constrains equally into a square as expected. I guess it could be a bug in the latest version? Frustrating seeing you have no problem in version 0.19. I note many of your viewers having the same problem. I’m going to attempt your electrical box next, hope there are not symmetrical constraints in that one?

@@brianwaites4572 I just did exactly that, it works fine. - I think you may be over constraining somehow. If you just draw a simple rectangle and constrain symmetrically it will work. Take a look at the panel on the left where it tells you how many degrees of freedom you have, this will help you, if it's over constraining it will tell you that.

@@Adventuresincreation Thank you, I did exactly what you did by placing a simple rectangle and it still turned everything orange! The DOF turned red and increased. I’m still baffled.

I have my constrained flat fish completed successfully. :-) Very cool, I can see how this works so far. Thank-you. My only complaint is that you sometimes confused vertical and horizontal when describing which you were creating. Visually you were correct, just the verbal description.

Thanks Craig, glad you were able to get your "fish" constrained. When you say, confused vertical and horizontal, are you talking about dimensions?

@@Adventuresincreation Oops, yes, that was what I meant. A couple of times I was using keyboard shortcuts to set constraints while listening to what you said and had to back up and do what you meant. Not a major.

Using 0.21.2. Following the constraints step to the letter. However, this version of FreeCAD doesn't have the same behavior in constraints as what you are showing. Clicking 2 points and applying a constraint yields no results. Clicking 2 points and selecting vertical, to make the 2 lines equal, also yields nothing. FreeCAD just sits there. No warning, no messages; nothing.

Nevermind. I had another sketch + body open that was causing issues. Closed. New project. Everything works.

That's really odd as it still works in version 0.22

Should I delete the body and try again cos I don't know to bypass this problem, or can you make a video on how to solve the problem. Thank you@@Adventuresincreation

Love it you have a Hue around the pointer. You are extremely good and SUPER fast with excellent videos. Here are some tips, hope it help to get more subscribers. Not all or any might be applicable to your videos at all. Watch your own videos on KZbin and then decide. Sound, Icons, SMALL Pointer and color. Newbies need help and some tutoring. There are a lot of people with eye sight not 100%. So some need a reason to stay on your videos. Some of the following might not be applicable to you. -- Voice is always better than music or silence. About 60 to 90% better. With voice you can explain and relate to your viewers. -- 99% of ALL Pointers are normally TO small and black or white. Causing them hard to follow and disappearing at times. We found a LARGER pointer in RED and if possible a YELLOW hue around it is ideal for bad eye sight . For Windows:- catnip5.itch.io/mouse-highlight For Linux:- Download www.google.com/search?channel=fs&client=ubuntu&q=Tweak+tools. Then if using Ubuntu Open - Settings --> Accessibility and there is more tweaks. Zoom "might" make the pointer jerky on some computers. -- The icon bar icons are usually small, your viewers can not see what you are selecting, minimum size should be at least 24 AND/OR bigger. -- The Constrains when in red are hard to see for people with bad eye sight and mostly unreadable in videos. Change it to black and all will be able to see and read it. We hope some of this is useful to you.
