This is the most refreshing and logical approach I have seen compared to the other tutorials on this application. It doesn't leap all over randomly like the ones where the instructor has no real experience in design or knowledge of engineering principles. This instructor obviously has extensive prior knowledge of at least one of the premier solid modeling applications and makes it easy for us that can't afford that unmentionable and exorbitant (starts with an S) application, but has found an alternative in FreeCAD. Thank you very much.

Absolutely the best video I have watched about FreeCAD and the Sketcher workbench, you explain what the tools do where as all other videos make a sketch using the tools with little or no explanation of the tool and just plough on expecting everyone watching to know what’s happening. You are a true TEACHER because you explain each tool as you use it and make everything so clear. I am totally new to CAD and have been so frustrated with the Sketcher workbench that I have avoided it and knowingly done models incorrectly but in a way that I could get the result I needed to print 3D models, after watching your video I clearly understood the basics of sketcher, obviously I will need a lot of practice but I now find it enjoyable to use the Sketcher workbench and get the sketch fully constrained and more importantly easy to edit. I came from using AutoCAD and Solid Edge, I had access to them with a student license I can no longer reach since I had to replace my hard drives, shame I didn't write down creditentals and stuff for my accounts, so I have to get an alternative for both. I tried watching a couple of other tutorials on FreeCAD, but this 25 minutes made me finally understand how it works, at least the things I want to use it for. This video reminds me of my initial learning of AutoCAD by my mechanical drawings teacher, not the perfect on the first time crap, showing mistakes, but showing how to fix them too, that teacher of mine unfortunately doesn't teach anymore, it was quite nostalgic watching this video. Liked and subscribed, that's the least I can do in return for the lesson!

Fantastic video! These are my first steps in learning FreeCAD and I'm glad I found a structured course, going from introduction to more complex things in a smooth way. Not like many other FreeCAD courses that are jumping around like crazy from one subject to another without any logical connection between two parts, leaving a NOOB like me in the dark guessing what has happened. Not sure, but seen the maturity in which you give your courses, I think you must have a long career in mechanical stuff and lots and lots of experience... Well done and I hope to see more sophisticated courses from you in due time. One area I'm especially interested in is designing 3D models like IC footprints and stuff like this (LEDs, resistors, transistors,....) to be used on PCB boards to (almost) reflect the final end result. That escape thing sounds annoying but glad you mentioned it since I was trying to figure out how to even draw, did not realize it actually closed the whole sketch. One thing I really wish they would do though is allow you to type dimensions on the fly when you drag a line. This is one thing AutoCAD does and it saves so much time.

I have been repeatedly frustrated by FreeCAD. While your video didn't address my specific issues, it was still informative. You are a good teacher. The concepts build as you go, you remain calm, and you describe your actions and explain the reasoning behind them. Great job. I'll look at your videos to see if you address this, but in case I don't find it: it would be really awesome if you could do a video showing how to use an external STEP file (or multiple files) as a basis for generating geometry usable in FreeCAD. I'm an electrical engineer and I've designed a couple of boards. I'm trying to learn how to create an enclosure for these boards using FreeCAD, after which I intend to use the Path workbench to generate tool paths for a homebrew CNC. I'm having a lot of difficulty with this. I can figure out jenky ways to do it, but it feels like I don't know what I'm doing. I have used Sketchup for years to create 3d printable objects...but I want to start using solid modelling instead for both 3d printing and CNC milling. Many thanks to you for taking the time to do this. It is a service to the community. Even though I find FreeCAD frustrating, it is great software and I believe my frustrations are due to lack of understanding.

Great question. The arcs were connected with a coincident relation, and the tangent relation replaced the coincident. This can be easily remedied by selecting both disconnected ends and merging them back together
