Faced an MDF bed the other day and it worked. Had to do another one ( different tool ) and the simulation wanted to remove everything. Tried & tried. Watched this vid over & over. I finally got there. Make sure you set the model zero point as Andrew says! . . . . I got there in the end. Thanks Andrew. Jim

Hey Andrew, nice video. - when you move the origin you can just hide your original model and un-hide the model copy under the job "model" tree element. This will save you moving your original model. - I like the way you explained the different CAM strategies.

Thank you for this very usefull topic. I am a complete beginner in the workbench "path". I was working with "CAMBAM" to run my CNC and I try my migration to freecad. The gestion of the parameters seems to be the same but not in the same location... Very usefull.

Good tutorials, man! Keep it up. It would be good practice if everybody mentioned the FreeCAD release in the title. Better than in the comment or within the video itself (no offense! Just my thought)

Hey Ro! Thank you for the comments and feedback 😁 no offense taken, and an excellent idea, I shall start doing that! 😊 As for the more complex parts, such as multiple operations, I shall look into it and see if I can create a video 😀

Hello, great video! I went through the steps and my tool control panel shows that my tool is set up, but no tool is shown in the drawing and when I went to set tool path, no tool is simulated. Any reason why this might be? Thank you for your help and keep up the great work!

Hey Mark! I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😁 the only things I can think of off the top of my head, would be the visability of 'cut tool' which is visible in the model tree when you simulate path? If you'd like to shoot the file over to me using the email on my KZbin 'About' page, I might be able to take a closer look and get back to you? 😊 Thank you for the support, it's much appreciated 😁

@Andrew CAD. My problem is I want to create a path that goes in an irregular direction, say, from an xy plane to an xz plane and it traverses gradually, say, imagine like a long pool slide, if you get the idea. I've created multiple datum planes but encountered lot of out of scope errors, besides the process I did is quite complicated just for creating a simple path. Have you guys created a video specifically for that? All videos I've seen only concentrates on a single plane. I'd appreciate to get any info or links. TY.

4:27 clicking on 'Add' in the Tools tab brings up a window to open *.fctb files, instead of the Tool Library window like it does in this video

Hi Thanks for the video, When I use the drop down box in freecad19 I only have a choice of nine tools is this because it's free cad 19? Is there a way to get the other tool profiles?

Using FreeCAD 0.19, I find that when selecting Add within the "Job Edit" to add a tool, I get a file explorer that opens into my tools path instead of the Tool Manager. I can click the "Toggle" tool dock from the nav bar above and get there (sorta), but the interaction between the Job Edit panel and the tool manager doesn't appear to exist; is this new?

Looks like this is one of the differences between 0.18 and 0.19

The stock/origin setup is very weird. Why is the model offset to the stock after setting up the job? Looks like after the "work origin" is set up in the job - the job is moved to the "global origin" and we have to move the model in the "global origin" coordinate system so that it approximately matches it's coordinates in the "work origin" coordinate system that we see when setting up the job. I don't see how this system can be used professionally while this error isn't fixed =(

Good afternoon! I thought this too, however 'Adventures in creation' pointed out in the comments that all you have to do is hide the original model and make the new model visable in the model tree: 'when you move the origin you can just hide your original model and un-hide the model copy under the job "model" tree element. This will save you moving your original model'. Hopefully this helps and is what you're looking for 😀

@@AndrewCAD Thanks, I'll go try it out! I mainly work in PowerMill, but a free alternative for personal use is just so tempting... FreeCad feels like it needs just a little polish to be usable... or a little getting used to.

Freecad is frustrating. I can load the step file from start a cam job, but when I try this with a part I designed in freecad it does nothing.
