This just saved me hours of work trying to recreate a waveguide (horn) , I spent hours yesterday drawing it with datum planes on weird angles and all i needed to do was draw the cross sections every 50mm 🤪

Thank you Andrew. I find your tutorials simply the best for me. You are slowly turning me into somebody who can actually do something. many thanks.

Thank you for this video, by watching it, I was able to cut the inside of a trapezoidal shape, while maintaining the same thickness of walls on the entire perimeter. I looked for how to achieve this, and it was your video that allowed me to succeed. Thanks again.

I'm just coming on board with Freecad after 4 years of Fusion 360. Your videos are jammed packed with info. So much that I have to stop and rewind a lot before it sinks into my thick head - 😂 Keep up the good work and cheers from Canada!

Hey Lewis! I'm glad you're finding the videos useful! No judgements from me for the thick head 😉 I'm planning on doing a blog/write up which will hopefully accompany my videos, is this something that would intrest you? Thank you for your support and welcome to Freecad! 😁

Andrew CAD I would be very interested in any writeups you make on FreeCad. I've been picking through the wiki but it's a cumbersome way to learn the program. A couple of the very active guys in the forum have come up with pdfs and I've been reading through those with much more success. One thing I'm having trouble with is the various coordinate systems and how they interact. I was very productive with Fusion before they gave the hobby world a glimpse of the future with their crippling efforts and now I'm back to being a bumbling noob again with FreeCad, but I'm not giving up. 😉

@@lewiscobb7817 wonderful! I'll try to get some form of site set up in the coming weeks! I understand what you mean, I'm more of a visual learner and find videos to be the best form of absorbing information! So if I can create write-ups which feed you information but with tons of visual graphics then it's a win win! Hopefully all of this will help turn you, and others into FreeCAD pros! 😁

Extremely helpful tutorial. Answered my question in the first five minutes. You'd think it would be easier to make a tapered octagon to replace a broken handle (needed to match the existing aesthetic). None of the other tutorials were useful, but yours gave me what I needed. Thank you, sir.

9:00 I think you can use the thickness tool to convert a surface into a hollow solid.
@AndrewCAD4 жыл бұрын
I'll give that a go tomorrow and see what happens :)
@paulg33364 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewCAD I tried it , the thickness tool gives an error: "the object is not a solid"
@skeatz14 жыл бұрын
@@paulg3336 The thickness tool is equivalent to shell command in Fusion 360. It shells out a solid and creates a wall of desired thickness. What you want is the 3D offset tool in the Part Workbench.

Hi Andrew, really useful tutorial. I currently have an issue similar to your last example of what not to do(unnamed4). However the sketches are not complex at all - a small triangle going 90deg to a slightly bigger triangle. The loft is linking the wrong corners together creating a funky geometry almost as if the loft is inverting/folding in on itself. Just wondering if there any controls or changes to the sketches I can do to fix this?

I really struggled with a double loft ruled profile. Basically a piped profile with a shape as the profile crossed inner and outer walls at certain sections. I spent days trying to rectify it. In the end it appears Freecad joins profiles in the order you create them and not whether they are both inner or outer walls. Hope this helps someone.

Hello. In the start, making the slot, you said shift something, prior to establishing the extent of the slot, and I can't get what you said, nor figure it out. 'shift h' is what you might have said, because the slot then became constrained horizontally, but I get no reaction trying the same. Could I be missing some protocol to make my keyboard work? When you next specify shift h, again nothing happens when I do it. I am using the latest freecad. Trying again helps, ignoring the shortcut. Really exhilarating for some of it to work. I look forward as never before in cad

why is cad so damn unintuitive.. we live in a world with VR, this should be as simple as a kid virtually picking up blocks from a toolbox and slotting and squishing them together and having it be able to calculate physics like the stress and torque and springy energy stored in each bit and use that to model itself so it can do real time IK on itself... why am I having to pick the right order of sketches with names like 'Sketch" "Sketch1" and "Sketch2" not got time for that when software should be touchy-feely interactive and intuitive o.o
