Tanzania: Young Guns on the Road | World's Most Dangerous Roads
World's Most Dangerous Roads - All Episodes: • World’s Most Dangerous...
In Africa, in the mountains in the heart of Tanzania lies the country’s most dangerous road. It‘s Name: Mlima Kitonga. This most dangerous section of the A7 highway is just eight kilometers long. But the gradient is extreme. And the abyss is deep. Dangerous passing maneuvers whether with trucks or fully loaded tankers are the rule, not the exception. Every day hundreds of coaches and trucks negotiate the passage. By no means do all of them make it.
But the highway is also the lifeline of the region, especially for the young generation. The average age in Tanzania is just seventeen years. The population is growing rapidly and everyone is anxious to get from A to B as well as to get jobs. Because of that, despite all the difficulties numerous farmers manage to survive, thanks to the Highway.
Not only bus driver Alberto will be at the wheel on the most dangerous road in Tanzania. Also driving teacher Mnyama has to bring his students to the right level of being able to drive in this region. A driving school offers the young generation a chance to get a job and by that have the chance for a better future.
Anyways the Highway allows numerous businesses like onion farmers and garages for trucks to thrive. And as the Tanzanian population keeps growing, it is only a matter of time before more and more young guns will start to hit that road.

As a Swahili native speaker from the Kenyan Swahili Coast, I must say that the English translator(s) has(have) done the viewers a great disservice by a below par translation service. I notice that much of the translation is bereft of the rich and colour of Swahili that is spoken here. A lot is being lost in translation denying the viewers proper context of what they are watching. And trust me, the context is way richer than what the English translation is portraying. Otherwise, love the videography that shows how beautiful the country and its citizens are.

I am Filipino. When I first began working in the maritime industry as a seafarer, I met Zaif, a Tanzanian national, along with Yorgo and Stelyo, Greek nationals, who worked as ship technicians. They were masters at their craft, and I am grateful to them for treating me like a real brother and teaching me valuable life lessons. Wherever you are now, I wish you good health and a happy life. God bless you, and thank you.

Just before i watched this documentary, i had watched another documentary from DRC on their most dangerous roads and what i saw as compared to this Tanzanian documentary was an eye opener. Where it takes 8 hours for Tanzanians to travel on their dangerous road, it actually takes Congolese a month on pretty much almost the same distance. Beutiful Tanzania Its as good as there are no roads to talk about in DRC.

I visited Mbeya back in 2008. I took my wife with me and she was shocked by steepness and treacherous of the slopes. Her heart nearly jumped off her mouth during overtaking. She vowed never to cross the region again. On our way back home in Dar, we diverted to Dodoma only to be astonished by nearly the same slopes, Iringa - Dodoma route. She had planned never to return on the Southern Highlands ever.

It's a great documentary. Informative. I am shocked to know the way driving school teaches the students. They are far ahead than Indian driving schools I have experienced. There is no classroom teaching, books, note books, notes, illustrations, black boards, vehicle models, etc. in India. Moreover, here there is only one student in the vehicle. In India, the students have to sit directly behind the wheels, and the teacher starts teaching. There are minimum 10-12 students in the vehicle. Everybody gets 10-15 minutes to drive. The vehicle comes back after a round is completed. Thanks for sharing.
