The most famous resident of the Liuwa plains in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 was a female resident called Lady Liuwa, a lioness, who is the subject of this documentary. The narration is told from her perspective, as if she were speaking, the Lady Liuwa. And warning: This is a tear jerker. You are going to be in floods of tears. Lady Liuwa was the only remaining lion in the area, following years of poaching and trophy hunting, before the non-profit NGO African Parks took over, assumed management and introduced additional lions to encourage the re-establishment of a pride. Animal populations have since stabilized, despite declines and local extinctions during the 1990s-2000s. The Lady Liuwa did bond with some lions they relocated but she wasn’t able to have cubs as it turned out she was infertile. But I’m glad she got a partner, new friends. Although nothing could replace her own family. She died of natural causes in 2017. As of July 2020, 13 lions are alive and well in Liuwa. If you’re interested in extra reading material, I can recommend Rise of the Lioness: Restoring a Habitat and Its Pride on the Liuwa Plains by Bradley Hague. It’s a National Geographic publication. I was so touched to tears by this video. The story was incredible and so sad at the same time. Lions are meant to live in prides. And the knowing that humans came and killed the rest of her pride family is beyond terrible. As sad as this video is, it helps people around the globe know the dangers that some our majestic lions are in on the daily. Maybe more people will get involved with the life of lions in Africa from around the world and be motivated to make a difference somehow.

This was a powerful documentary and a tear jerker, very emotional story about Liuwa the lone lion who lost her pride due to poachers killing them. Its so sad to see this happen she was very lucky to stay alive 😭😭. The narrator made it as though Liuwa was speaking to us personally from the heart about her story and that touched me even more. Being a huge fan of Nature I was touched by her plight and courage to survive so much heartache. It was unfortunate she was not able to bear cubs herself but at least she lived a happy life with her new family......BLESS HER 😇👏👏🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🥰

@@Titoscudd this has been known to happen although there have been cases where prides have managed to exist without a male lion for months & months & I’ve witnessed a sister from the pride will flirt with a nomadic male away from her pride to keep them safe from danger. @@Titoscudd Obviously you didn't bother to read the last part of the video. Or have any inkling of how much a male lion would be happy to find only a female in a territory. It's an instant pride if she accepts him. Learn something sometime. Yes, lionesses are. That is why they are valued above the males. Males are a dime a dozen. They more often die than find a pride to make their own. That's why they team up. The cubs are killed. The females are not. Even then, some females will band up and send males packing. You are ignorant, and quite boring. Obviously male lions are smarter than you, and value their females.

Lady Liuwa is probably dead by now. I saw another documentary about her. In that documentary, they said a camera man came to Liuwa to shoot a documentary about hyenas in 2005. Lady Luiwa formed a bond with this gentleman and would follow him back to camp and sleep near his tent. She was so lonely. They park system found her some mates to translocate. She was a big, mature lioness back then. If she was alive, she would be over 20 years old. I don't think lions live that long in the wild.

Nice footage but the "first person narrative" doesn't really work.

This is a documentry from a different perpective, her story.... which I enjoy amencly thank you so much it made me cry alright Lady Luiwa is a dame, she would’ve made a wonderful mother & this is what is so sad, she was so lonely she attached herself to the man who made the first doco I saw about her story. She would follow him back to his camp at night & she’d stay until morning she really bonded with this man & he knew he had to help her so he introduced two males to the plains & then two younger females were introduced but only one male & one female survived & they became her pride, it took months for them to adapt to each other but in the end she had her pride & thats what his goal was & Lady luiwa was no longer alone it was the best documentry ever. I wonder was there any cubs born?

This doc made me cry too. Lady Liuwa did get some companions but she never had Cubs as it turned out she was infertile. My community posts I do for all our docs always have extra information. You should read them. COMMUNITY TAB.

@@FreeDocumentaryNature thank you for your response I appreciate all Big Cat doco’s but when I witnessed Lady being put in the Bona it was the hardest thing to watch having her freedom taken from her I think climbing the trees in the bona gave her the height she needed to see the horizon to her future. She was the most remarkable lion on this great earth & now she is with her family at long last
