A little biased there reporter. There was NOT significant loss of business due to the protest, in fact some benefited. At any rate, it was VERY local. The Emergency Act is ONLY supposed to be invoked if there is a NATIONAL threat. Protests are SUPPOSED to cause discomfort in order to be effective, otherwise, why bother?

You're right! It was the City of Ottawa Bylaw that went to the restaurants before the convoy arrived and told the owners they had to close. Essentially, they were trying to close all the bathrooms downtown. My friend kept his restaurant open and made a ton of money during those 3 weeks :)

It wasn't just Ottawa, it was the borders, they blocked many borders and prevented food from coming in. It wasn't only in Ottawa that there were complaints about the protesters. There were complaints at the border crossings as well. Ford was complaining about it.

Why doesn’t the CBC seek out any of the actual organizers and participants in the protest and/or their lawyers to interview about what the protest was all about and why the judge ruled as he did. We only ever get “expert” opinions of people who disagree with and didn’t actually participate in the protests. This is not journalism. You should be asking why "free speech warriors" want to silence anyone who says anything they don't like. CBC did interview some of the protest organizers, who were very in character which means they lied through their teeth continuously, which CBC also reported and proved. They went on at length about how they were not part of any Alberta separatist or anti-Ottawa group, which was followed by video of them hosting those very things. They all claimed nobody would hear their concerns, and of course, the gov't sent people to talk to them and they had nothing to say to them, and it turned out they had never tried to contact any official at any level before organizing the convoy. CBC shouldn't be allowing any claims to be made by proven liars.

The convoy protest was an organic test of Canada's democratic health and ordinary Canadians answered the call when it was threatened by rogue actors in the Liberal /NDP caucus. Brutally biased … the judge’s decision also notes that the other national elements including the blockades were all resolved BEFORE the Act was invoked, so only a local emergency remained at the time and there was clear evidence that existing police powers / tools were sufficient to deal with it.

Well that's certainly a partisan take on his judgement! He ALSO noted, that even though there were "powers\tools" that were sufficient to deal with it,...they weren't being used to deal with it! The Police had been infiltrated, and lost complete operational abilities! The Mayor was NOT in control, and the Premier was NOWHERE to be found! It was completely left to the PM to deal with what the Judge labeled as an "OCCUPATION", not a protest, and wondered if he would have had a different viewpoint at the time! Not that that proves either of us posess further intelligence over the other. Nor does age. There are people twice my age with twice as much education, but that doesn't mean they're more "intelligent". In fact, I'd be more willing to think it means they're less capable outside of a classroom. But hey, that's just my personal opinion 🙂.

In this case, it is clear that citizens were standing up/protesting against something very unconstitutional that was affecting everybody's wellbeing and livelyhoods. As opposed to causing a highten threat. The threat ( unlawful mandates/excessive restrictions etc ) is what was being protested. I hope we never have to re live this ever again.

I applaud ti the participants of the Freedom Convoy in Ottawa and the assertions of their constitutional right to peaceful demonstration or a protest!
