Freedom, democracy and the rise of authoritarianism with David McGrogan

In this episode of Encounters, Institute of Public Affairs Senior Fellow John Roskam speaks to Dr. David McGrogan about freedom in the modern world and the rise of authoritarianism that threatens liberty in the West.
David McGrogan is an Associate Professor of Law at Northumbria Law School. His extensive writing and research on freedom has been published by The Daily Skeptic, The Critic, Law & Liberty and the Brownstone Institute.
David is also the author of Critical Theory and Human Rights: From Compassion to Coercion, which explains that human rights today has very little to do with personal freedom. His Substack, News from Uncibal introduces readers to political philosophy and freedom in both a historical and modern world context.

Great discussion. But i dont think he understands Australia. Brits moved for the 'own a house' dream, not a freedom dream. Our current culture is welfare dependant. I dont think we have hope. I think its a 100year decline.

Dobrzy ludzie,ktorych rodzice, albo oni sami jakos sie nachapali kupuja sobie mieszkania. A wiec nie jest tak zle?! A co z ludzmi,i pochodzacych z normalnie pracujacych rodzin, ci wszyscy co przez lata pracowali na etacie (niektorzy nawet bardzo wydajnie i z wielkim poswieceniem i ie mieli z czego odlozyc ~ nie kradli, lapowek nie brali, nie oszukiwali, a mieli np. Dwojke dzieciakow do wyksztalcenia) ii wreszcie nowe pokolenia ludzi jakis tam wyksztalconych, wlasnie osiagajacy wiek rozrodczy czyli czas na zakladanie wlasnych gniazd. Przeciez oni musza byc w miejscu, gdzie jest praca i jakies perspektywy kariery, a gros swoich zarobkow musza przeznaczac na koszty wynajmu. Nie jest to zreszta sytuacja wyjatkiwa tylko w Polsce. To jest signum temporis, czas zwijajacej sie cywilizacji, ktora nie wytrzymala wlasnego ciezaru. Dobrze by bylo, gdyby rozni influenserzy przestali wygadywac te bzdury.

Objection your Honour, Moses did not rescue the children of Israel, God did, He heard their cries of anguish in their suffering under the Egyptians. Moses did not part the Red Sea or provide manna, God did those and much more. Moses was an obedient servant of God, the most humble man on earth, he responded somewhat reluctantly to God's call on his life to lead the God's people out from the bondage of Egypt into the Promised Land.

That's funny, You should stop watching Democrat bought media. Who arrested peaceful protestors at the whitehouse on January 6 2021 and have kept them in solitary confinement for years in an attempt to force them to take a plea bargain marking them as guilty? Biden and the democrats. Violent rioters burnt down a historic St Johns church and white house guard post which forced Then president trump to be taken to a secure bunker, Who didn't arrest nor retaliate against said violent rioters on May 31 2020? Trump and the republicans. For an authoritarian trump isn't doing a really good job but your mate biden and the democrats will fit perfectly.
