The philosophy of freedom according to Eren Yeager When Eren was still a child, Eren's main goal was to kill all existing Titans, Titans who had taken away humanity's freedom. but eren didn't care about the titans, he didn't question what they were doing, why did they eat his mother? Eren only seeks revenge for the loss he feels. and deep in his heart, he wants to take back humanity's freedom that was taken by the titans. Titans are evil, and must be eliminated, all he knows is that. but as time went by, it was discovered that he himself had the power to turn into a titan. and not long after that, he realized that all the titans were humans, humans who were locked out of their own freedom. and in the next arc we begin to realize that "the worst threat to humanity is humanity itself". The truth of this truth makes Eren have a big conflict inside his own head. The more things you know, the more questions arise. Who is their real enemy? What is the government hiding? why can humans become titans? why are there titans? and most importantly, does humanity outside the walls really not exist? All these questions will be answered when they make it to the basement of Eren's house. In the basement, they found several books that explained the truth of the hidden world. This discovery changes Eren's perception of the world completely, forcing him to go against his own way of seeing the world, and this all changes his attitude. Eren realized that to achieve the freedom he wanted, to be able to move forward, he had to sacrifice everything he had and he did, he wanted to do it. Once they reach the lower chamber, the truth about the outside world is finally known. here, eren should have ended his journey. and this should be the point where he is finally free, the book in the basement should explain the world described in Armin's book. When they defeated the titans humanity should have become free, that should have been the ending eren wanted. However, what he saw was not freedom but something much worse than the titans. Eren realizes that the conflict they have had so far is not a simple conflict. and there it is proven that Armin's book is a fantasy that will never exist. Eren's definition of freedom when he was a child was a world outside the walls, a world without titans. However, when Eren finally learned the secrets of the world in his father's book and saw his father's memories, everything changed. when he realizes that the world outside is not the freedom he seeks but instead more terrible suffering. and when he kissed historia's hand, eren's idea of freedom changed. freedom cannot be achieved by just going outside the walls and seeing the ocean. freedom cannot even be achieved by simply crossing the ocean. Eren believes that the only way to achieve the freedom he desires is to kill everyone who prevents him from achieving his freedom, killing all his enemies across the sea. As the story progresses, his brain continues to be given pressure after pressure, contradictions, which make a dilemma form in Eren's mind. When they finally saw the ocean, Eren didn't feel as happy as his friends felt. he never felt like he had won at all, eren still felt that the world they had was very cruel, and the freedom that eren had was still taken by someone else. There Eren doesn't ask when the battle will end, but instead Eren asks whether the freedom Eren seeks will be achieved when he erases the outside world? when Eren destroyed the outside world across the ocean until it was destroyed. Eren couldn't accept the world outside the walls, because it was different from what Eren had imagined, and therefore Eren's rumbling to destroy the world wasn't what he needed to do but it was as simple as he wanted it to be. Eren and Reiner are two sides of the same coin, Eren even said that Reiner and himself are the same person, and want the same things. 4 years after they reached the ocean, Eren lives in Marley. Here, Eren still feels that everyone there is an enemy, but when Eren lives side by side with them, Eren finally realizes that the people there are no different from the people inside the walls. Eren remembers Reiner and begins to feel what Reiner feels, actually there are no such things as demons, just people, everyone within the walls or in Marley is basically the same, they are just people, some are good and some are bad. Eren once said to Falco about the types of people who want to join the battlefield in hell, he said that the first type are people who are forced by other people or their environment, people who are forced by circumstances outside themselves, and the second type are people who see something behind that hell, something deeper, something more personal and more special, and eren felt that reiner and himself were the second type, they were people who saw something behind that hell. But what's different about the two of them is that Reiner no longer wants to do all that. Reiner is constantly haunted by Annie, Berthold, and Marco. But Eren is different, he keeps going forward. After we see the change in Eren, even though he looks cold, he still has deep emotions that he feels all this time. Eren still feels devastated by Sasha's death, Eren felt the same way when he lost Hannes. Eren wears a mask to encourage Mikasa and Armin from the mission that Eren is going to carry out, so that they don't feel hurt. Eren might honestly say things to them, especially Armin. but he knew that it wasn't the thing that should be said, but eren still said it to keep him away from the pain they might feel. Eren also lied about Eren hating Mikasa even though Eren really loves Mikasa. However, Eren's drive to achieve freedom is not something that can be considered amazing, it is cruel and has no sense of mercy. At this point, Eren has turned into an antagonist in his own show. he has gone against the message he wants to convey in his own show, he is a person who doesn't want anyone to stop his selfish and childish dreams. Mikasa says Eren's bottom has changed but she also realizes that Eren was like that from the start. Eren never changes, Eren really wants freedom, he wants that because he was born into this world. Eren never thought about saving Eldia, he just wanted to save his friends. Eren wants his friends to be able to see the outside world freely, go anywhere freely. and eren never cared about the yeagerists he didn't care about creating a better world for eldia. Eren feels that people in Eldia and outside are both good and bad. Even though Eren knows that his friends probably won't fight him, Eren will still do the rumbling that Eren planned. Freedom is cruel but Mikasa is one of the people who still gives him beauty in this world. Eren really cares about Mikasa and Eren loves her. Eren was willing to sacrifice his life several times just to save Mikasa (the person he loves most). The scarf that Eren gave to Mikasa was a symbol of Eren's love for Mikasa, and when Mikasa thanked Eren for wearing Mikasa's scarf. Eren said that Eren would do as much as Mikasa wanted. when eren tries to find a reason to maybe not do the rumbling eren knows that it's impossible but he tries anyway, he says to mikasa what has he been thought of as? and mikasa says that they are family. There Eren felt disappointed, Eren lied that Eren hated Mikasa. In the end we can see at the end that Eren admits that Eren really likes and loves Mikasa. Here we can see the childish side of Eren who really wants love. From the moment Eren kissed Historia's hand, Eren knew that he would activate Rumbling and gain freedom. Eren has two goals, namely wanting to feel freedom and sharing that freedom with his friends. Eren knows that he has to keep rumbling. Eren also has to keep guarding Paradis Island. But Eren doesn't care about Eldia, let alone the Eldian kingdom that Yeagerist wants to build, he just wants to protect his friends and he just wants to share the freedom he feels. when eren took over the power of the founding titan, eren realized that his friends wanted to stop him and therefore eren knew that the world would not be completely destroyed by rumbling so eren had to make his friends become heroes to give them their lives after rumbling. as kenny said "everyone has to be drunk on something to move them forward", and eren is drunk on freedom. Eren was made a slave by his own dreams, his dreams of achieving freedom. Eren is a slave to his own desires, Eren is a slave to his own ideas, a slave to his own nature, Eren is drunk on freedom. Eren's meaning of freedom is getting crazier and more unreasonable over time. but as kenny said "he still needs that to survive in this world, EVERYONE IS A SLAVE TO THEIR OWN DREAMS, but that is also what gives them the strength and drive to move forward." Eren is drunk on freedom, Eren locks himself up in a cage of freedom, he doesn't want to be good and goes against his own nature, Eren can't rationalize his own desires.
