"Freedom Isn't Free: The Conflicts and Costs for World Order and National Interests". Yes, totally agree. Let's find examples to support this. Two wars in Iraq and Afghanistan resulted in >300000 civilian deaths, and millions of refugees. The revolutions in Tunisia, Syria, Libya, .... caused more deaths and refugees, and miserable lives for the people there today.

He missed economic freedom, that is, the ability to buy and sell goods without a third agent (for instance, the government) prohibiting such a trade. Of course, when such a trade goes against the laws of the country then it imposes threats to our other freedoms. And in cases where a branch of government prohibits such a trade, but this decision is seen as an overreach of government power, the other branches of government must step in to uphold such economic freedom. In a way, economic freedom, as F. A. Hayek would suggest, is one of the most, if not the most, important freedoms Western democracies have. I hope we (Western democracies) can continue supporting economic freedom despite the allure to copy the Chinese Communist way of governing and controlling its population. To finish, I would like to mention the importance of a well-researched and morally-based Central Bank Digital Currency that upholds our economic freedom in the decades to come. PS: Great interview! Enjoyed it a lot!

The ability exists for coming together, the will doesn't. Ideologies are the battlefields of the current political arena.

Freedom doesn't mean free to do anything even if it's bad. We're not free to steal others things or harm people. With freedom there is responsibility. Without freedom, the only responsibility is to do what you're told without question.

Innovation is the way of the future . It comes with freedom to think, explore ideas, express and share ideas, free movement, free spirit and free assembly.

I find that our allegedly strong democratic process is weak as we have been unable to prevent those who harm us from harming us, instead relying on those who might have a few resources left to be able to "call out" (as Kounalakis stated) , identify, then correct corruption (that continues decades and harms many more before any alleged correction can be made, if it sticks).

I understand that World Order is an attempt to homogenize governments and responsibilities of governments such as individual country economies, health care, and governance regarding the three levels of government : executive, legislative and judicial.

Free markets aren't free. There is no such thing as a free lunch is a conservative talking point. Opportunity costs is not a good sell to the public though Freedom seems to get thrown out the window when the friends from up north suddenly suspend democracy and install martial law. But overseas business interests aka national interests for businesses that don't seem to care much about the American people other than the protections afforded to them by US law that protects their property rights and the sacrifice of the sons and daughters of those same people.

i wonder about this tradeoff, if we write the checks, and have the "sole" defense power doesnt that implicitly allow to make the decisions? if the EU, the EU defense, rise to equivalent power (except for nukes) in relationship to their populations and GDP, do we still maintain leadership in the same fashion? lets not pretend that this change, or evolution, will not come without tradeoffs, maybe these are better tradeoffs, maybe not. we're seeing it right now with EU taking arguably the lead position against Russia, which may be appropriate considering its "their" neighborhood. but as these country's ramp up their defense spending, their free wheeling diplomacy, is there a possibility they will drag us into places we dont like. on the flip side, tighter coordination on principles with Europe will give the US more leverage in our competition with China.

Many people believe China's approach to ideology is preferable for the world order because it is well organized. As PM Trudeau states he is impressed with their approach because they are turning around their economy on a dime. At what cost to its people? The Blueprint for the World Order entertains the notion of China as the global superpower.
