He wasn’t against Ms. G. He loved her and respected her. She was his wife...as to her, her husband. But she really wasn’t there for him. She knew she was not putting a effort bc every time she answered her husband, she said “I’m sorry” sometimes even couples who are not married still need affection. I remembered once when I was a undergraduate and working, I had a gf. She really loved me but I could never make time for her, then one day she came up to me crying saying she wanted to break up. I felt bad. I felt sick. Bc I knew at that moment when a woman cries for you, she loves you. So I do feel for her, but I do feel for him as well. He wanted his wife more but she was wrapped to much in her work. Couples need love. Clearly she was not giving it to him. Only knicks and crannies of it.

they obviously love each other, but I don't think they were in love with each other. There are many people who are able to separate their work from their personal lives, but she wasn't able to. Even when she was home, she committed her time to working on things for the kids and working several jobs to do things for them. She wasn't wrong to do that, its inspirational to me all the lengths she went through for the kids simply because she knew it was what needed to be done. Like she said, nobody had to ask her to do any of what she did, she simply did it. However, she neglected him. You may not see it that way because she showed support to him when he needed it, she asked him to spend time with her and the kids, she put in minimal effort to me. She loves him, but she loves the kids more. She doesn't need him. She can provide for herself. She can have fun, be happy, work hard, and live life with her kids. In her future, I can honestly say, she doesn't really see him, she sees the kids she is helping. She sees them succeeding and graduating and living life . Yes, Marriage is give and take. Marriage is compromise and talking things out and being united. However, what is she getting from him that she doesn't get from the kids. They make her happy, they give her a purpose, they give her unending support and they believe in her to make things happen. They trust her more than they have ever trusted anybody and she knows this. This is why he left. yeah, they might have been able to work it out, but neither of them would have been happy.
@SakuroAlex

I think you're wrong. He never really asked her. He was always beating around the bush, not addressing the problem. She never knew. I mean, how could she? If he would have told her he felt neglected, she could have at least make more of an effort. He never really said it up until this moment. So yeah she did neglect him a bit, but it's his fault for not demanding he wanted. He's a selfish dick for leaving without even trying to work it out. He never really loved her. He was Just in love with the Idea of the Relationship he wanted to have with her. Real life is not like this. Also he left within a year of not getting the attention he wanted. I'm sorry but that's really quick. Not how a marriage should works. When it gets a little though don't just leave.
@winxclubfairiesrule1
@winxclubfairiesrule1 5 жыл бұрын
@@SakuroAlex he's selfish because he wanted to get out of a relationship that was bad for him? She didn't make him feel loved, she didn't make him happy anymore, and he didn't cheat on her. He didn't abuse her in anyway. Instead, he had to watch her find happiness with other people. And the reason they didn't try to work past it is because they both know that no matter what, now that she has built a relationship with the kids, she will always put them first. I don't think either of them would have been happy in the end. Yes, if they both put in more effort, maybe they could have a better relationship for a couple more years, but eventually it'll be more unhappiness. Some people, after some time together, just aren't compatible with each other anymore. I'd rather end my relationship than try to fix it when I know in the end, it'll just lead to both of us being bitter and regretful

When I watched this movie years back, I thought Scott was such a jerk. Having watched now as someone older, I actually feel for him. It’s clear throughout the movie that he is in pain, and she just doesn’t hear him. Yes, Ms. Gruwell is the hero of this story, but this movie also highlights her own character flaws. Not everyone who opposed her was a bad guy. I think she should have tried to empathize, understand, and compromise with both her husband and Principal Umbridge. That may be something the movie was indirectly trying to say.

I'm sorry but I still just see this as sulking. Rosa Parks married Raymond Parks for love and years afterwards she became a figure for the civil rights movement. It caused problems in their marriage due to stress from the publicity, the death threats, the fact that they both got fired, and a lot of other things, but in the end, they managed to work it out and he stayed with her and supported her. He stayed married to her until he died in the 70s, and she opened her speech for the Million Man March in 1995 by honouring him. If he could stand by her even when the movement became just as important as if not slightly more important than her marriage, why couldn't this man?

agenttheater5 People are different. You have to understand that especially when it comes down to intimate emotions in a relationship. Some people can bear the burden of others but when you ask your partner to bear a burden such as the one in question the relationship becomes unequal. That is because while you’re shouldering that weight for her/him you can’t exactly ask your partner to do the same if you needed to. It worked for Rosa and Raymond bc their interests aligned with one another and they were on the same page but these two were not. He wasn’t pushing her away bc he hated her he just realized that the love she had for him was now more invested in her students. He simply doesn’t want to have to have 50 percent when he gives 100

One more thing : notice how she explains her passion for those kids. She says that she finally finds a sense for her life, and her husband is not a part of it. He, for his part, is not looking for something, he just wants to live with her. Lots of persons working in the social fields have the same personal issues : they deeply need to feel useful, and are so uncertain about it that they crave for it, and just reject the persons who truly love them, because a person who loves you obviously needs you, it's too easy. They need to work hard to deserve love. I think that the movie doesn't show completely the personality of the wife at home, but I completely understand the husband whose love has been replaced by the love from the students. No, you must separate your job and your personal life, especially if you're having lot of human contact in your work. Keep in mind that your energy, love, attention, are limited goods. If you give everything outside, nothing is left for your family once you're at home. I hope my advices get noticed and help someone out there. Good day :)

This scene can go both ways. I support Ms. Gruwell for being able to provide help and teach them. But not only that for her to have patience with them, she took the time to meet them and understand why they are the way they are. You don’t see that in most teachers, some teachers do their job, but then there are some teachers that do their job and also show the importance they have on you. That is something that the husband did notice in Gruwell but yet he was complaining how he wasn’t feeling like he was in a marriage. He didn’t help her, in the decoration of parent night. He didn’t come those times that Gruwell would leave a message to him asking him to come and meet the kids that she has devoted her time in! He didn’t give her at least half of the money to buy books, pay the museum for the teens to learn. He said he admires for what she does for them but didn’t support her. It goes both ways. A wife should support her husband, just as how a husband should support his wife. It’s a marriage, a team! Now as the new norm women are independent and that is something that men know can get mad about or even maybe feel intimidated now that there are more help for women and people praise us! Which we still face discrimination even though we have crossed that barrier. As I repeat it can go both ways, yes if you feel left out you would want to end the relationship or marriage. But Gruwell mentioned also that the kids brought sense to her life, and then she continues in to say you don’t get to see that often. This is why I would say that the husband was the problem. He didn’t get to know her job deeply, he didn’t went on to dinner with them to see why she was passionate about it. A marriage takes commitment, he had so much free time to be able to accompany her and even he could have helped her! Instead Gruwell father helped her on anything she needed, and that is okay because that is her father. Who stuck with her through good and bad, when she felt like she couldn’t survive being in that school, when she went through the divorce. You can see the position of the father and husband in the life of Gruwell and you can see that he went wrong not Gruwell

I don't know... People are making it seem like she was neglecting him on purpose. The way I see it, she was starting to realize her purpose in life and she was getting so caught up in it that she wasn't spending enough time with her husband. But she did try to include him, it's not like she just flat out ignored him. When she went out with the kids, she called and invited him to be there, asked if he wanted to help her with the little projects she did for the kids when she was home and yes you can look at that as a form of neglect in the sense that it was just her interests that were mainly the topic of conversation. But at least she didn't completely leave him out. I think she was trying to bond with him through that but he wasn't interested in it because it wasn't on his terms. I also think he started to feel inferior because she was working harder than him, especially since he was already unsure about what he wanted to do job/career wise. But the main thing. There was no communication. He didn't even try to sit down with her and at least talk it out, let her know how he started to feel and come to a comprise before deciding that divorcing was the best option. I don't want to say which one is the bad guy because really both are not perfect in this situation but saying Miss. G totally neglected him is false. Also maybe they just weren't meant to be in the end anyways, because their individual purposes or want from life didn't align with each other's.

He can't can't give that to her because all he wants is just them to be together. I'm not saying i agree with his decision,if anything, i believe its kinda a dick move given how he doesn't love her enough to support what is making her happy, but from a logical point of view he needs to think about his happiness too, and his and her's just don't align, simple as that. For their marriage to work, one of them needs to make that sacrifice, and i'm pretty sure they wouldn't do that, nor would they ask each other to do so. It's hard, and it's not something any of us would prefer if we were put into this kinda situation, but when a new greater happiness comes along and if you can't balance that with the one you have now, you have to make a choice. Whether she realized it or not, she already made hers, and he made his. This is what's best for them both.

He was okay with staying at a job that was supposed to be "temporary." Mrs.G definitely believes in him as much as she believes in those kids. I understand him feeling neglected. He had a right to be upset when she picked up 2 extra jobs without communicating with him. I just feel like he didn't give her enough time to see if she could make an impact. Saw this when I was 13 for the first time and then I saw it again a few years ago as a grown up. I was subbing for a middle school class and it just so happened that they were watching this movie. Watching this scene as an adult made me realize how complicated this situation actually was. Ms. G loves her husband, but all of the time she spends with her students does take away from her marriage life. From the husband's point of view, he recognizes the amazing things she is doing, but he hardly sees her and that has to be a frustrating life to live; to feel so far from your wife, even though she's married to you and living with you. I'm sure that's not what he'd imagined for themselves when they first married. But life gets complicated. So I remember being moved by this scene now that I was seeing it from a different perspective as an adult. Then some kid shouted "GAYYYYY" and a bunch of other kids started laughing smh.

Having a career which is what her job started turning into and being in a relationship don't go together all well. It's hard to have both because in order to have a good relationship you have to devote time and energy into it and in order to have a good career you have to devote time and energy as well. She'd put so much into those kids that it became a crutch on her relationship with her husband.

Thank You for your comment. When I looked at this, sometimes there is always some racial overtones like why are taking care of THOSE kids. As I delve deeper each time, I think about futuristic questions we don’t ask our partners as we grow into a relationship. We get so focused on the present, we don’t adapt when major developments occur. It takes strong individuals and constant communication to get through tough times.

Sebastian Paredes idk if you’re joking or not but if you’re serious, the wife is considered to play the role as the female that would tend care for the husband hand and foot when they would get home to work. The husband is consider to be the one to make the money and be hardworking. So for the roles to be switched around it would make sense for him to say the “wife”

People are different. He simply doesn’t want to have to have 50 percent when he gives

She was not doing too much. Often times, people want what they feel a relationship to be. She found her passion and wanted to change the lives of her students. They were her children. He wanted a housewife. He felt emasculated. He could not see her vision. When a man makes you choose between what you love and him, it's time to let him go. He trash. Tbh. This is a preview of how it would've been if they had children. Being a parent is really consuming. A teacher is a gaurdian outside the home(or they should be). If he can't handle this, then it's better they stop while they're ahead. Of course, there is such a thing as "too much", so why not help her find that balance. Ms. Gruwell wasn't getting the support from the system, so help her make connections. Befriend some good teachers and get them over, so it doesn't all fall to her. They have friends in high places or friends that can get them in, sure they can make it happen. They're both valid in their feelings, though. You can tell he's a good guy because he stuck around to say goodbye. Who knows, this was probably his final hail mary to get her to see him.

I wouldn't mind having a wife like that.At work you have to perform at a winning level so you get fired i admire her for that.If she wants to make a difference go ahead and let her.Thats her becoming a pro at something.That's something to be proud of not all teachers are like that going the extra length.And eventually we will make time with each other.Plus i have to go to work too.As long as we can keep up with the bills and a nice house.We have to sacrifice.Thats what i would do.Patrick Dempsey is right on whst he says.But he still kind of acting like a pansy.If he wanted a wofe that doesnt work alot then he shouldnt of married Swank character.Over all a good movie and this was the last movie of hood kids making in this world cuz of a good teacher.
