There was even a former bully Who apologized for her misbehavior against me. And now we're friends, I find this Challenge Day (that's what we call it, a few American people come over here to organize this thing) or step on the line an awesome way to listen to each other's stories and so to eventually understand each other better. Have you witnessed violence, has your friend died from gang violence, do you know a drug addict personally etc. Have you attempted suicide. One girl cried in her friends arms and I tried not to cry in front of the school since it was in the gym. The whole point was to see you were not alone by looking around the gym with all 9th and 10th grade. It was tough but eye opening to see some of my friends standing up. @princesscookie47817 жыл бұрын
Tiffany Bolton I'm pretty sure in public schools classroom supplies come under an allocated budget or it is part of a booklist for students to purchase themselves.. It is pretty weird for you to have to buy your own supplies. Unless of course the school doesn't deem the supply a necessity for learning, in which case of course it wouldn't fund it. And if students really can't afford the supplies, they can get help from the school. This is what usually happens in Australia.

I will never forget the times teachers did this exercise with my class, twice in middle, it started off as innocent but once the questions get deep it brings back many memories like once a girl it my class began to cry when the teacher asked if we have any family members who were deported and it trigger a sad memory for her, she was allowed to stop and see the counselor. Another time I will never forget when a teacher asked "step over the line if you've ever tried drugs/drink" everyone except me stepped over then I did the I love you sign because we had to, then on the flip side a question that still haunts me was "step over the line if you've ever been bullied by a teacher" I was the only one to step over, and in that moment I felt so disgusted because I was in a class where everyone was popular or favor by teachers and I thought "they'll never understand the trauma of what that feels like" I felt so jugded even though the exercise was meant to join us together, looking back that class was full of snakes. I'm over it now but damn.

She is such a caring and independent teacher. WE NEED MORE TEACHERS LIKE HER, who actually cares about her students success!!! She really sees them struggling and wants to get them out of poverty or other financial hardships when it comes to financial instability & embezzlement of money.

We watched this movie in hs (like everyone probably) but nobody was paying attention it was so sad cause that's why teachers don't care after a while

A K the term is “my bad” meaning my fault, i messed up. But her saying “my badness” comes across as silly as she was using slang they used but in a more innocent way.

This makes me realize in how different circumstances american students are and where I live... scary to think that someone of your classmates had been in a "gang" and got killed😱 like wtf

marii_h i mean yeah there are students/neighborhoods in really bad circumstances but not all american high schools are like this. My high school is pretty chill, definitely not like this

What is she thinking wearing pearls? I don't know if it's real or not, but she can't wear those in that neighbourhood, makes her look to fancy, she'll stand out a mile and be branded as an outsider.

If i remember right thats even in the movie. Another teacher or someone tells her theyll probably be stolen within a week
@Sylvyi8 жыл бұрын
That's brought up in the movie.
@agenttheater58 жыл бұрын
lucas I didn't exactly mean like they would be stolen. But to the students it could seem like she's showing that she's had an easier life than them and the pearls are rubbing it in their faces. It'll separate them from her and they won't be able to trust her or connect to her.

agenttheater5 lol that was a running joke in the movie. Throughout the movie people say "nice pearls" and give her a pitying look. And her innocent self always looks at them flattered and confused.

Yes! The last scene is a classroom picture of all the students and the teacher, it slowly transitions to the picture of the actual students and teacher that this story is based on

4:01 Chris, Pablo, Lanky, Wickedly, Alex, Ryan, Jennifer, and a few family members. I know there’s more but it’s been years since so I sadly don’t remember all of them. I wish I can cry about it now but all my tears have ran out so much before. I almost got murc (murdered) growing up too and even a few times that happened recently. It’s a cruel world out there and it sucks there’s more violence than love. Spread love not hate because saving one can save a lot more than you think.

I went to a school with Mexicans, Asians, and blacks and I was one of the only white people in my school. There was a “white school” in my town where the majority of students was white. People at my school which the majority was color thought I was white privileged. They hated me but we did this same thing in class and I could answer every question like everyone else. When we were asked to take the journals people came up one at a time and when the bell rang and everyone left I left (without a journal) and my teacher asked why and I told her “why would it matter? And I just left. My teacher gave me the journal next day in class and I took it home but never wrote in it and when my teacher found out why it broke her heart. Because I was so involved with gangs I didn’t have time to write in my journal when I was wondering if I was going to die tonight. So she told me to write about that and I did.

What’s crazy is these kids left class and went to experience some of the same things they stepped to the line for.Whats crazier is schools in close neighborhoods have the exact same experiences.Most kids are just products of their environment.Not a lot of them make it out especially when you have certain skin color.

I love the fact that there was at least one white kid in that classroom. Regardless of whether anyone wants to acknowledge it or not, white privilege is a thing, and I bet he learned a lot. 4:19
