I loved how he talked about how he's done thousands of albums. It shows that you really don't need to have fast hands. The ones that get the call are the ones that serve the music and do not feel served by the music. They put the music over the drums. A selfish drummer kills music very quickly. With his groove, the music is unstoppable!

Man, you guys really need to get a slow-mo cam on these right hand grips. I think that alone could help so many people, and it would be one of the coolest things to see. I have never heard of this man and since I am a jazz drummer I feel he should have at least be known by me. What I mean is I am glad I was introduced. He is a true statesman eh? I loved his quote. and I wonder if perhaps I did not hear about him because he is so humble. I try to be and since I lost my leg 5 years ago I have to be. And since I got behind the kit again one year ago this month I have continued to be humble because I have at least overcome that. You see, I am in constant, chronic and severe pain. 24/7 but I don't feel pain when i play or when I hear. thank you Purdie for that today. Your humility speaks volumes. I never would have made you for a drummer on the street but you sir do have a drummer's attitude from your laugh to your shuffle. Proceed good sir: Thanks for making my day. I just turned 49 and my kid was bullied at school for being Aboriginal and I kept telling you need to learn to have compassion and to pray for these people, so anyhow she was too upset to join her pa on his birthday on Wednesday but you made my week Purdie because I learned. JohnFive Eagles Szuros Bernard Purdie has played with plenty of jazz artists, as stated in the video, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Smith, Sonny Phillips... Are you saying that you only exclusively play jazz? 'Cause first of all, I'm a jazz drummer myself but all my friends and I don't even play it when we first start out drums. I was (and still into) a LOT of funk/r&b/soul, James Brown, Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder before taking up jazz. Also many of my fellow jazz drummers are completely aware of Bernard Purdie and the groove he brings... his lessons should transcend for all drummers regardless of genre.

JohnFive Eagles Szuros he is far from humble, but in the most endearing way. He is a superstar in both the musical and human realms. I only learned of him a few years ago myself, through a Steely Dan documentary. Turns out he's played most of the music I've loved through my life.

Burnard Purdie is more that 'New Oleans' Drummer then a Jazz drummer. It is not an own Genre but maybe someone is here who understands what i mean ;)

Deep purple , Led zeppelin , Black Sabbath were great musicians , they were inspired by Purdie , Buddy rich , Louis bellson... heavy metal is a mutation of Blues , jazz , Mowtown and Eventually Rock n roll , and some classical influence as european héritage . Do you think they had no talent with the improvisations they did live too ? Made in Japan , no talent , Fireball no talent ? Stormbringer and Come taste the band ? Very funky shit .. which is great .. Wonderfull stuff . While beign Heavy . Budgie , No talent ? Uriah heep , No talent ? Judas Priest , To rocka rolla , To the bible of modern metal Sad wings of destiny /Sin after sin / Stained class .. Have progressive pieces , Bluesy kind of stuff , Moody Funk heavy but in Heavy setting , modern metal blue print , early stages of Speed and Thrash metal , complicated pieces , symphonic arrangements ... Simon phillips and Lesbinks , No talent , are you kidding . Guys who were also very kind of Mahavishnu ochestra stuff and Lenny white ... Come on... Early Whitesnake stuff , especially trouble , with Dave dowle ... Etc... You dont have to like it , but make sense in what you wrote .

Every musician can love great musicians, anyone can love a great person--this guy is both. I'm not even in the room and I'm smiling behind this screen, I can't image what it was like to be in that room with him. It's always great when your idols aren't just amazing at what they do, they're also role models in who they are as a person. You're the best, Purdie...!

I love Bernard! He exemplifies true joy and professionalism with what he does which is play some incredible beats, drums and has the music in his head that he loves so much! Soo good!
