I mean people do finesse it for views, but ultimately no one, including myself should be all that caught up in a simple name. I see it as many of us who do or attempt to rock our dreadlocks like this are showing others you can have hair like this and not be *insert myth* And honestly that's more important than the label. Ay man, good video.

I don’t care what the title is when it comes down to us black people embracing our natural identities in whole. I don’t have anything against people that wear wigs, synthetic hair, texturizers, etc. But I feel like natural hair is disrespected so much, especially by those in the black community. I think it’s very important for us all to embrace how unique our hair can truly become.

Healthy and natural is most important. Separate or not. Twist or not. I wet my hair with a rinse I created daily, and wash weekly. No separating, no twisting, but my locs have a semi-freeform look, some locs are flat, some congo, some locs look mildly twisted. Our natural hair is different during the locking process. I am anti lots of products and oils, but that's me. Also, I've always been corporate, and no problems getting jobs in DC, California, or New York.

I feel you its just that this is really really really a supernatural/spiritual power that comes in complete freeform.. I don't have enough space to explain it but it's more like a calling that one receives in locin their hair..but yours are fresh as hell bro so blessings to you & I pray your power grows with the journey

I went through this when sharing my journey. Ppl called me semi freeform for separating. Im not attached to labels, but for the fun of it I started saying I have Demi Freeform locs because I’ve maintained my roots like 3x and manipulate them with simple styles and doing my baby hairs 🙄 lol but ultimately I know my locs were formed Freely, no parts, sections, or twists. So that’s gratifying enough for me 🤷🏽♀️

Freeform vs. semi-freeform vs. cultivated, etc...are terms used to polarize the community. Looking for differences and creating rules and definitions to classify loc’d hair is overkill IMO. Locs are locs and they are all beautiful and unique in their own right - no two are the same.

Do ppl really think OG freeformers like from way way back didnt twist their hair w their fingers & that they all just let it go without ever touching it? I find it hard to believe everyone before us was legit & feel ppl who were legit freeforming didnt criticize them either.

I feel that freeform locs are locs that are not started through manipulation if feel the need to sperate do it. Hairs can start pulling in the wrong direction causing pain

Bob Marley didn’t separate his hair to begin that is just how they look when the hair is short and growing. There is free form and everything else. You can begin separating and then leave them to combine later. Then they become free form if you leave them to grow their own way. But you can’t be both things at once. It’s like saying your celibate but have sex on a regular basis. What would you call that? In other words you are either freeform or not. There is no semi free form. But who cares. Call it what you want. Just do your thing. Your hair looks good as it is.

I consider u free form. I semi free form with a sponge & twisted from there with no parting just hunks of hair that were already dreading. I will retwist once a year or upon special events. I also tape up to keep a clean look.
@Visstnok8 ай бұрын
I think normal fiddling with hair (separating) is part of freeforms. Else you can pretty much move the freeform purity goalpost forever. First it's don't touch your hair. Then it's don't wash your hair. Suddenly it's don't let wind through your hair. If you take it so far you seal your hair in a vacuum and lay perfectly still, that would mean you never got dreadlocks. Freeforms are when you go on with your life and get dreads in the process.

My locks are my flowers...my plants...my scalp is my garden...even a garden needs to be tend to..so my locks are my journey...I twisted them..combined them...etc...I will separate them if needed. Johnny the Dread actually cut some of the threads of his Congos because they were pulling...clearly he is a freeformer still...So ...we have to be practical about it

Troy!!!! My Guy I gotchu on this topic bcuz I got Dreads 👇🏽 I have Semi Freeform Dreads. Semi Freeform dreads are individual dreadlocks that have had maintenance such as twisting or using the crochet hook or retwisting which are all things I’ve done and having them once you got the form of dreadlocks you let the new growth take over until a retwist is needed or even just hair that had been maintained that you just leave alone after and let it freely form Now Freeform is usually washing and letting it lock or even not washing your hair which is what a lot of people do bcuz Freeform is never really Freeform. People start with a sponge or a towel or brush and just leave it alone. Freeform is different from semi Freeform bcuz Freeform means you can accept Congo’s and no parts or separation. Freeform dread heads use more natural products such as aloe Vera plant or coconut oil type things while Semi Freeform people use more locking gel and things of that nature

I ended up with dreads a little thicker than medium sized and only retwisted twice and I’m approaching a year loc’d🤷🏾♂️ I wanted this freeform kinda look to them but I never expected they’d look freeformed even after they get retwisted….I mostly just like the shock value it brings at this point lol

I was going to tag you @johnnythedred. I really enjoyed your video and I subscribed to your channel. This topic is very debatable, so is the frequency of retwisting for someone claiming to be semi-freeform vs having manicured locs. I have gotten caught up in the labels myself but I love natural/freeform locs. They’re top tier, although mine are manicured 😅.
