I would say getting your knife sharp is very important but not important if it goes dull after using it a couple times, good edge stability and retention is extremely important. Your edge can be very sharp and have fatigued steel on it if not done right, great video we freehand very different but i gotta respet it, I personally woulda used diamonds

This was just an experiment with using these stones sharp pebble sent. Definitely not meant to be all end all sharpening video, I totally agree on the diamonds!

Thanks for the video. In my opinion (Only an opinion), stropping, and micro-bevels are just a cover-up for poor sharpening. Yes, they have a place, but not always, and not for the aforementioned.

Lol that cringe worthy video as you say is one of my favourite sets of sharpening videos and went out and got the 3 Spyderco ceramic stone because of it although I got the ultra fine in the 2 inch wide version. By the way I’m glad your back to making videos and if you ever have time to have a knife chat drop me an email. Take care and stay safe.

I know it might take longer I'm just kind of more curious than anything, could I alternate sides not creating a burr and still get a pretty sharp edge?

That was fun to watch. I’m too lazy to learn freehand. I have a KME and it gets my knives silly sharp.

may I suggest cutting paper before and after the sharpening? that's one way the viewer can assess your sharpening

Super cool that you are still making videos. Been watching you for a loooong time. Always brings me back to my knife/knife sharpening beginning. Always appreciate when you post something, especially sharpening stuff.

Nice video, it took me a long time to develop a good method for sharpening my knives. Made mistakes along the way. I also prefer free hand sharpening as the slow removal of material allows good feedback and room for correcting issues. As you mentioned lots of ways to do the job. Good video and advice to those needing or wanting to learn how to maintain an edge.

Hi, great video, I do the same thing by trial and error, remember the more errors you make, more opportunities to refine your skills. And besides if everyone that discredited you before by all means show us your skills. I'm also curious about where you bought the tub and stone holder that you're using in this video? 🤔 Have a great day and stay sharp

I got good at this and all it took was practice and watching the sharpening vids is the best way to start and with a not so expensive knife 👍👍. U ll be good with a good stone and better blade but get the angle down and yer good and get a consistent burr and Apex and then the process is downhill but it is indeed a good skill to have and some good ass stones. Fixed method is easier and consistent but it’s a little different edge than hand sharpening , not much or enough . I like both ways and dont think one is superior over another

I have used Shapton Ceramic Whetstones and Glasstones but I prefer Spyderco ceramic stones and DMT and I also thought they give a better result, by the way I never make a burr and I have been sharpening knives for over 40 years. Thanks for the video

I know this is off topic, but how strong or weak is the spyderco military's blade detent, any issues with it opening in your pocket? Trying to decide whether or not to pick one up.

With the recent release of the Knifejoy Bowie exclusive you should do a long term review of yours. I think that video would get some good views.

The little stone you showed is a "Nagura" stone for cleaning stones from metal usually higher grit stones that tends to load. And if you want to you can also build up a slurry with it for polishing. (i am not an expert in no way, just what i have picked up).

Hey Randy! Like the video. Some stones do require you to condition them when they’re brand new. Maybe that blue 1000 grit needs that
