Don't forget to neutralize what vinegar is remnant on the copper. A rise with tap water can help, but the best thing would be a little baking soda in water in another bucket. This is to stop the acidic reaction of the vinegar on the copper to keep it from eventually being eaten up by the solution. Now on the vinegar solution side, you SHOULD be able to put a coffee filter, or even just old cotton rag, in a funnel and pour it into a container to reuse (non-edible naturally). It won't be as effective as quickly next time, but it would allow you to reuse it once or twice to save more money. You could even take the "once used" vinegar solution and pour it into a bowl with some extra salt to use with a rag for hand polishing something copper, or anything with corrosion really. Again you would still want to be certain you neutralize it afterwards. Great to see ya'll back, we are still prayin' for you on this end! God Bless!

What do you mean baking soda in another bucket so do I just put vinegar salt and baking soda into one bucket solution? I'm new to cleaning copper just wanna make sure I don't mess it all up
@richardvarley1974
@richardvarley1974 2 жыл бұрын
@@vegaspress vinegar is an acid. Once the copper is clean if you don't neutralize the acid (vinegar) it can continue to eat away at the copper slowly over time. So, you add baking soda (a base) to water in a secondary bucket and rinse it last in that bucket to neutralize the vinegar (an acid) so you don't wind up losing your nice clean copper over time.

@@richardvarley1974 Shits going to the scrap yard! Who cares if it gets eaten away. If you are cleaning stuff you want to keep then yeah, but why when you are selling it anyway?
@richardvarley1974
@richardvarley1974 2 жыл бұрын
@@offhandacoustic because the longer it is eaten away the less copper you have to sell. You can quite literally lose the entire pile of copper before getting it to the yard to sell if you don't stop the acidic reaction. Not to mention at a certain point the reaction goes from "just" etching and eating away the copper to creating verdigris (green often slimy coating that will crystalize over time) that is both toxic, AND will cause a yard to massively downgrade the load of copper because it is a sure sign that it is being eaten away by acidic reaction, and the yard doesn't want to purchase a product at full value that they have to then try to treat to rescue it before it disintegrates. If the point is to clean the copper to get bare bright price, why would you be so lazy as to let it turn green and lose that bare bright price? Why clean it at all if you are going to stop halfway through and lose money anyway?

Heat up the copper, using a fire with a gate or a grill. Mix vinegar and baking soda, say a 1/2 cup to a quart. Fill a coffee can with the mix. Take the hot copper with metal tongs, and submerge in the solution for three servings. Remove and rinse. That is "bright and shiny".

I might have just figured out how to wreck house trailers . I am gonna try a demolition , fire departments use them . Very pricy ., not sure how long they last ,": I never used one ". So it will be an experiment ". Put it on my Sthil 175 , " very small chainsaw " . To get the huge amount of waste manageable , I built a grinder from two high pressure oxygen tanks . The grinder works great . haven't gotten the demolition chain yet .

George, on the "Barley and Hops Brewing" channel, has some good cleaning videos for copper stills. He recommends the "5-5-1" mixture....500ml water, 50ml hydrogen peroxide, and 1 ounce citric acid. Same peroxide you get from the pharmacy, and citric acid powder you use for canning. Rinse well with some regular dish soap and water afterwards. Obviously you should still do a small water run before running alcohol. Channel- "Barley and Hops Brewing" Video- "Cleaning Your Still, Copper, or Stainless"
