Hello. Just recently i started off as a freelance translator (english-spanish) in Mexico. I have some experience as a translator as I used to work for a small visa company here in Mexico. Im looking to study a bachelors in English to feel fully acomplished as a translator. What are some books that you can recommend for translators? thanks.

I can, however, recommend a book for becoming a freelance translator. Anallely Avalos Otero, there’s a great book that I bought and read cover-to-cover when I was first studying to be a court interpreter: Fundamentals of Court Interpretation (etc-long title!). Co-authors include my teacher, Holly Mikkelson of the (since renamed) Monterey Institute of International Studies. It’s aimed at interpretation, not translation. However, it gives a very thorough coverage of the principles you need to know. It’s super expensive, so I advise you to look for a cheap used copy or try to find one at a (university?) library for free. Greetings from Taipei, Taiwan. ¡Viva México!
