Past Grand Master (DeMolay International) has a clear message about why Freemasonry is stagnant in the US. What do you think?

"stagnant"? Try collapse...

@OnTheHighWatch any words of wisdom on a solution? A collapse might signify a mass exodus. The problem is the craft is not replacing what they are losing to death, for the most part.

@@OldFashionMasonicPodcast I have many thoughts on the subject so I will boil it down to this, Freemasonry should be more like it's accused of being and less like it wants to be seen as being. When I look at the history of my own lodge it has no connection to its own history in the very community that Masons founded. We must be relentless in recapturing our birthright as the pillars of our own communities. The Mormons stole our valor and we need to be vicious in restoring it to its rightful place and all that entails. A time was, if you wanted to excel in community leadership, the Masonic Brotherhood was the first stop. Today, it's not even on the list. I could go on and on but it would be to no avail.

Remember when per capita was going to be used to fix the roof of the grand lodge building in Topeka what ended up happening where's grand lodge now? Same with PPLM. Many of the old buildings were built using funds raised by selling bonds for building funds something that you can't do now.

As a PM, 32nd, SM, and Shriner, I can concur with PGM Steven. Ohio Masonry is declining and needs to change to become vibrant.

Thanks for your comments. If you had a magic wand, what should we be doing?
@ssh0111

@@OldFashionMasonicPodcast If I had a magic wand, I would have Grand Lodge permit local lodges to market / solicit new members. I would have the lodges only do the first degrees and a district or regional degree team do the third degree. I would have a training program to develop new officers with a special concentration on the operation / administration of the lodge which includes marketing.

I think one of the most hidden and destructive structural issues imbdded in our "tradition" and regulations and rules is the outright ban on discussing politics and religion. In every other social group I am in ....church based mens bilble study at work and business the several Moose Eagles etc ....we do....and we learn more of our brothers hopes values preferences and dislikes. We DO NOT GET IN FIGHTS . We learn each others sore points and learn when to back off. By usually justouching on issues we learn to respece each others sensariviyies ....and dreeper brotherhood develops. Masonic is an improvement society.....how can we bros improve in brotherhood if we are treated like immature children ? with the everpresent "rules" to keep us out of real connecrton and lively vital conversation ...our informal gatherings and interactions have becone .....uh...generally somewhat bland and.......uh perhaps often monotonous and boring

They have a very specific reason for not allowing it. Very specific.

@@BlaspheBeast I didnt know aout any very specific reason. I surmised some very small and short sighted "leader" implemented the short term quik fix ...to keep the peace in a lodge where a few hotheads caused a rumpus. We are an improvement society....dedicated to personal growth and to loving and to rise to a pinnacle of love ...which is apologiging and forgiving . Shutting bros up and preventing the expression of deep values leads only to shallow relationshio and formal surface level interaction. Boaring mealtime convesrsation and dwindeling interest.

I totally see your point :) Politics are rigged though, so it’s difficult to have an educated conversation on actual policy; especially now that ‘policy’ is interchangeable with ‘feelings’.. I know it sounds crazy, but my personal goal is to find, develop, and install a Mason as President one day… RE: Bland Masonry - I encourage your Lodge to introduce Masonic education… People LOVE talking all things esoteric :)

What isn’t observed is the group of men (much like these Bros interviewing) who are younger, ambitious, and are experimenting with spreading the cement of Masonry on public forums. This is a HUGE change - a positive one at that… And these guys are finding their ways into Grand Lodge and/or GL Committees where changes are made. It’s only a matter of time… I’m in my young 40’s and very active in California Masonry. Honored to be a part of MANY of the committees where men our age are blazing new trails to keep our craft relevant. The days of ‘grandpas fraternity’ are coming to an end quickly. ✊😎
