Thanks guys this is really interesting. I’m still working on getting our permaculture swales to get working, to incorporate some of the Syntropic principles into our small acreage now would be very easy to do. I’ll keep watching. 🙏🇦🇺

Even with how great of a farm it was from the start, 3 years to do all that is basically unheard of. This is amazing

Nice, I like it. I didn't realise that I was kinda doing syntropic gardening, I called it Survival gardening, I put a plant in the ground then I would say to it "Live or die, it's up to you now"

Nicely done. Charles has a very good understanding of the syntropic framework. Keep it up. Would be nice to see a follow up by year 10. Exciting to see what's possible.

We have been building our syntropic forest in North Florida for almost 5 yrs now. We pull our chicken trackers along the grass paths between the trees. Very beneficial. We added rabbits to the homestead this year. Can't wait to see the benefits of their fertilizer ❤

Fantastic density in this system, well done! Also, seen quite a few systems using Blue Gums before with fantastic success!

I get the concept of planting 50 mango seeds and choosing the best ones. Let the weak ones die and dont try to save them to get the fittest. BUT you might get the fittest mango that years later will not have good tasting fruit. What we're doing now is growing from seed and grafting a proven great tasting mango into the ones that look like they'll grow great. I'm also trying to make the in-between rows both my biomass row and goat (or other animal) forage row. Not quite sure yet how that would work or how long that would take as goats are notorious for killing off younger trees.

I agree that planting seeds and grafting onto the seedlings that prove strongest is the way to go. Seedlings have so much more vigor and hardiness than grafted trees, and it is usually possible to get a 5-6 foot tall tree with nicely spaced branches in 2 years. You can graft successively bearing cultivars onto those branches for an extended fruiting season and protection against losing your entire crop to bad weather.

I found I sorta evolved into syntropic or syntropic style. Mainly because I rarely see food forests producing food and oddly I aquired grasses because I simply like them then started using them. So now I'm more straight mixed lines and less food forest. I converted the food forest into a jungle garden.

With Syntropy, what happens when you run out of land? I've always wondered, you end up with a big jungle, which is amazing, but surely harvesting in that environment is difficult?
@g4nked19 күн бұрын
Just keep ontop of trimming plants and using it as mulch, for as long as you can use your arms. Have kids maybe and teach them to do it or get likeminded people in to help out.

I admire but find Syntropic farming just way too much work. Not sure what our system is called but our food forest is heading towards 5 acres and can manage it easily myself plus work part time.

Hi, this was great. Would like to know why in the second setup he has chosen that short variety of grass as opposed to mombasa grass. Also, why grow grasses in that patch first and not just plant the veges already? Also, for your quetion on someone incorporating animals in the tropics, here's one in zambia. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXq4pWdsoamsrck

☝️🤓 well, building the soil by choping and dropping is still taking advantage of the natural decay orocess of organic matter. Syntrophic is entropic by nature.

Why do you use like “leverage” the forest , why not just say they can eat from the forest. It sounds wanky

Seems like this guy misses managing his watershed as best as he could. The orchards should be in swales on contour or a different sort of rainwater harvesting earthwork
@FreeRangeLivingАй бұрын
He taught Permaculture for a decade. His approach is considered for his area and scales can overwhelm the soil with water at that site.
