Long live parkour and freerunning. I hope it remains a part of human culture forever. I'll make sure to keep that hope alive by practicing this sport myself for the rest of my life. Good wishes to Team Tempest. I love you guys.

I was thinking the same thing. You cannot keep that up all your life, the body won't let you. Once you pass into your 40's the body begins to change for the worse, in that it heals much more slowly and injuries don't really go away. No way you can maintain that much of extreme activity for the entire lifetime.

Parkour is get from point A to point B as fast as possible using the most efficient and direct way. Freerunning is using parkour elements but adding fancy flips and movements that wouldn't necessarily help you move faster but look cooler

My understanding, and I don't know how true this is so keep that in mind, is that with parkour, it's more about escape and moving quickly through your environment, where freerunning tends to be more flashy, with moves that aren't designed for escape (like backflips and shit). Either way, it's amazing, and I want to do it.

I've been taking parkour classes at my university, and it's sometimes discouraging because I'm one of only two girls in the class, so the courses that are set up sometimes have jumps that are just too far or walls that are just too high, but I keep going. I love it to pieces, it's so freeing and fun, and I know that if I just keep practicing, I'll get better and better, and be able to hold my own against the guys =)

i wondered this too so i googled it: "The only difference is that practitioners of parkour focus on speed and getting from one place to another as fast as possible, while free-runners like to show off by doing cool tricks while in transit. Practitioners of parkour dislike the aesthetics involved in free-running."

From a distance, yes. But if you get deeper into it, parkour is more about efficiency, getting there, etc. It's more so about creative ways of transportation. Freerunning on the other hand has more "flair". It's fancy and you take steps that aren't necessary (hence, the "free"). Both are great, just one is more about creativity.

In my college we have a small Parkour Club with 1 major rule. The word "Can't" doesn't exist. There is no such thing as you cannot do it. Everything is possible, so long as you try and try again. Maybe it's not within reach at the moment. Maybe you're missing a key move or just abit more of speed, but it is doable. Can't = 10 push ups. If you want to be negative, then make sure you get something positive out of it.

Apparently parkour is getting from A to B as efficiently as possible (no flips), and freerunning is doing it in the most creative way possible ie flips. To be honest, the real world difference is little and its all movement to me.

we don't escape them. if you escape reality and try to freerun, you're going to bust your ass. the ONLY way to freerun is to accept your world and situation and to come in true contact with those things. We aren't escaping anything, we are finding a way to accept everything with open arms and confidence.
@pconnors8

Parkour doesn't really include flips It is getting from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible. Where as free running is over coming obstacles in your own creative ways, whether the obstacle is a wall or a trick.

I wish I could free run but I can't because I'm too heavy for my body to support, and I have cramps all the time I'd be afraid I'd do the wall twist move and have both my sides cramp up. Bad situation. Maybe in a next life I can be a freerunner! :)

You can be now :) don't stop... that's what freerunners do.. they don't stop... cramps and injuries are temporary... but the feeling of gaining something and gaining confidence is forever :) be confident... FOLLOW THEIR RULE: NO "CAN'Ts"
