Used this video as a guide to cut my mom's hair from below shoulder length to a bob, which is what she prefers. I don't cut hair & have very little experience in doing so. The triangle parting in the front took me an obscene amount of time to get right & vertical cutting was a bit intimidating but, despite that, it turned out quite nice & she's very happy with it! So, from a complete noob, thank you for saving me from absolutely butchering my mom's hair so she can enjoy the summer months a bit more comfortably!

I’ve been cutting hair for many years... Ever since COVID and being in lock down, I’ve had many more opportunities to watch and study other cutters... Matt is definitely one of the best to watch... You explain in detail , so well! ! You’re extremely inspiring for stylists to get better ! Thanks for you’re videos .. One last thought : I really don’t understand why anyone would give a thumbs down... You try doing what he is doing.. He’s brilliant! End of story.

Absolutely the best!! I totally agree with switching to vertical sections in the back for the reason you described. I once did it as a student, and my instructor tried to correct me, saying, "what are you doing? I just cut her hair last week!" The client, an 80 year old retired hairdresser, said she agreed it was too bulky and that she wanted to trust me to take a shot at refining it to improve the shape and movement. She said the end result was the best haircut she'd ever had. I feared I had stepped on toes, but eventually a day came where the instructor had me cut her own hair. I got my license, but sadly never went into practice for health reasons. I rarely cut for a limited number of family and a friend when I am able. My example was a stacked back but otherwise not a traditional bob like this, without the extreme A-line I see in many tutorials. I have My niece wants a textured bob cut soon. Probably wants more blunt than this. But your technique is so precise, and the result is absolutely stunning. I know if you had any "blunt textured bob" video, it would likely be the last one I'd need to watch! But this cut makes me want to grow my hair out and then have you cut it for me! I only wish camera angle was from your viewpoint after you did side perimeter and then began to work your way up the side. I am not 100% clear what you were using as guide(s) I think I understand a piece from just the other side of the part behind the ear is the stationary guide, overdirecting sides just to that point with barely any elevation from the horizontal guide as you make your way up the side...is that right?

Thank you so much. I’m so happy to see a video so well done. You did a fabulous job! Not only on the cut, but also the explanations. And I am so glad it was you and the camera. With no music. Music is so distracting during a video. We don’t need fillers. When the instructor has a pause in conversation it is fine, it gives us time to think and reflect on all you did and said. N

I agree! No distractions,, straight to the point. All about hair education. I’ve watched plenty of tutorials that even mentions non related hair stuff or talking too much not related to hair and it loses me right away. But his style of teaching is so downright to the point.

I have moved from a city and cannot communicate to a hairdresser the horizontal and vertical method of cutting the Bob style. Your demonstration left no stone unturned! Absolutely exactly the precise way the hair should be cut. I am saving your demonstration, hopefully I will find someone that will watch and listen! Thank you, you are the best!

I prefer this horizontal/ vertical approach. It’s very precise and controlled, very organized. Love the emphasis on combing the new hair to the guide line. Anytime I’m not consistent w combing it to my guideline i ended up unbalanced. This is is very practical tutorial that you have breakdown.

I am not a hairdresser but I do like to watch how my hair is being cut. I used to have a bob haircut but I have never seen it cut this way. I love it! Love the way it gives weight in the back but also balanced with some lightness. Such a classic style and this comes from the cut, the success of which is informed by taking your time to section the hair in the correct way. This cut shows off the beautiful colour of the hair. 😍

I love watching all of his videos. He's a very great stylist, coming from a (Retired Stylist)- ( meaning myself). I am licensed myself but I truly enjoy watching him and his techniques. I am extremely intrigued by his expertise to say the least. What I do Not know, his videos will teach me, or if I have learned it and forgotten it, he's a constant reminder. Again, I definitely have truly enjoyed every video that I have watched him & his techniques. Each Cosmetologist has their own Signature when we design hair. Out of everyone I've watched, I've enjoyed his the most! 💜💯✌️✅ I'm hoping to watch him do a Slide Cut someday. So far, I haven't found one on his "Utube" as of yet. ✌️

I have a maniquine client waiting to go. I'm re-entering cosmetology after a long break. Even though the 90 degree cut is the only one on the board, I'm leaning (relearning)a few basic cuts just to know them. I'm surprised how fast this is coming back to me. I don't think I grasped the concept back when I went to beauty school in the 80s. I was young and didn't have my priorities straight. Watching videos like this is very helpful as I can see whatever I forgot, but I still have retained more than I thought. I like the modern spin on technique and style. I can take a classic style and be able to recreate it.
