***EDIT*** the clip where I say they are stocks for trimming horses is actually a cattle chute but is similar to stocks and I was using that clip as an example. When I was editing I thought I explained it then realized I didn’t clarify. Basically it’s a design to hold animals in place.

@freespiritequestrian Жыл бұрын
@@junebyrne4491 most farriers won’t take on large draft horses (like the huge ones over 17hh) because they are to hard on their bodies and some of them require stocks to trim. This is common.

My 2nd horse was a draft mix. Got her in '72 for $50 at auction. She was part of a bucking string that refused to buck. Sweetest thing ever. Drafts hold a sweet spot in my heart to this day. Would love another one. 541 was gorgeous as were a couple of the all white ones. White would do much better in our desert heat.

I want all of them, especially at sales where animals have been neglected in Australia.The ❤ this lady has for horses, and all animals is such a wonderful thing. Life care for a horse is expensive,some people think you can get a horse put it in grass field and that's that. Nope, a lot of work,love, and compassion goes into raising a great horse.

Ah, Kalona - one of the best places to pick up a good horse. We would visit there when I was going to KCC. Wish I lived closer. I think horses are high like everything else now. I know they cost a lot to keep, but that's why you want to make sure of what you're getting. Apparently some of these have KZbin channels where you can check them out on line beforehand, which is good, but there's nothing like being able to see them ridden in person. You do a super job when it comes to selection. 😊

I absolutely love going to the auctions with you, I love the general ‘scenario’…. the Amish men conducting the sales, the young riders and even the ‘poop scoopers’, it is a rich environment, one I would NEVER experience. So, from the comfort of my armchair (yes, I’m one of those) I say ‘thankyou’. I have to tell you that I have only been seated on a horse once in my life and that was the sturdy steed of the milkman…. I was 2 years old and I’m 75 now😊. BUT…… on the other hand I grew up with my very own horse, rode her to and from school every day, stabled her in a corner of my bedroom, groomed her and cleaned out those hooves EVERY DAY. I called her Star, she was a Haflinger . I had her in my heart and head for years and my room was full of horsey books and posters. You could say she was my ‘invisible’ friend but anyone who has had an ‘actual’ invisible’ friend will know only too well that there are ‘levels’ of invisibility. So, there we are, my experience with horses😉. I am definitely waiting with bated breath for the day you buy a beautiful Haflinger. Your videos come into homes right around the world and for this viewer they rise my happy memories, so I wish love and happiness with all your endeavours from Belfast, Northern Ireland 😘.

Wow! That was alot of horses at one auction 😳 It would for sure be tiring trying to keep track of the ones your interested in and going between two bidding arenas. I was quite surprised of the prices that most of these horses went for. But I totally understand you not wanting to pay a high price at an auction. I also made a mistake of reading some of the comments while watching the video and found out before the end that you didn’t get one 🤪, i usually don’t do that 😂 oh well! Can’t wait for the video on the next one! Have a great day 😊

He is a buttermilk buckskin pinto, I have had him since he was 7 months old. I can't say enough about the gentle and sensible draft deposition. He has a more refined head and is only 15hh. does take after the draty side as far as conformation. He joins my 17 yr old Palomino Morgan mare and Arab gelding who is turning 28 yrs old. That big bay was extremely interesting. He was very tense in there, I would've loved seeing him trot and canter, he had an exceptional uphill build and what looked like a good freedom of shoulder in that tiny clip. I guess age could be an issue and soundness is always a risk at these kinds of Auctions where horses aren't even vetted. There is just so much you can do to cover up lameness so the caveat emptor principle rules big time. Unfortunately there is only so much you can tell surface wise then it becomes a big blind gambol. Very very cheap at 7500 if he was at least half good as he looked and still a decent age. Huge light and responsive, wow and rather smart to look at with his handsome roman profile. Not having seen him move in the open I could still almost believe he could make a worthy dressage prospect.

I have a soft spot for the gentle giants. I have a percheron mare, whom is my fav of my 4 horses. Thank you for sharing this. I likely will not get the chance to a attend one of these type auctions being in Florida, so this is wonderful. BTW, I haven't seen many of your videos, have you done any rescues? The reason I ask is because most of the rescue horses seem to have some problems, but when I watch your videos at auction, you seemingly rule out most of the rescues, but you mentioned that you look at rescues. Perhaps my idea of rescues are those who may not normally sell or resell for a good price because they have some "flaw" that deters buyers. Most I have seen are also underweight, in need of good nourishment.
