Freestanding v Integrated Appliances. Which Are The Best To Go For?

We refurbished a kitchen and had EVERYTHING built in. When we moved house and got a new kitchen, we had everything built in... apart from the washer and dryer, which I'd now always have free standing. The integrated ones are far too small. I'd also consider a non-integrated fridge/freezer, depending on the kitchen design. For a dishwasher or oven, though, it's integrated all the way for us

Excellent advice. Wish I had seen this before having my kitchen completely renovated with built in appliances except washing machine. Happy with the latter decision. Fridge freezer way too small for two of us! Knew from the moment it went in, but have tried to live with it for a few months. Now trying to find one similar to the newish one we removed! Will now have the cost of removing unit and replacing flooring. Hopefully your advice will stop someone else making the same costly mistake.

I bought a house with an integrated fridge freezer (not frost free). I had brought my old non-integrated Bosch. It fitted in although protruding slightly but has about 50% more capacity as well as being frost-free. Only items which are good built in are oven and hob.

Fit 2 x dishwashers its well worth doing if you have the space. It just makes life so much easier On first thought it sounds extravagant, but it actually saved us money because the dishwashers were actually not much different in cost that than another 600 cabinet, because all you need is the false door for the dishwasher and you’re buying a door anyway even if you have a cupboard there, (having a spare we took a chance cheaper dishwashers and they have been very good anyway) Once you get organised to 2 it saves so much time, because you just take the clean things out of one as you need them again, and putt the dirty ones in the 2nd unit, then reverse the process. A further benefit is we have solar panels so the dirty one goes on at time next day when we (normally) have excess power.

I have a minimalist approach to interior design, thus integrated appliances are a must. However I very much can understand the benefits of having free standing appliances because any type of work that needs to be done will cost more for integrated appliances.

I used to have all appliances free standing in the past. If you move frequently, that is the only option.

No matter what I hate integrated appliances and will when moving house do a diy job so I have everything freestanding. I think of the benefits of freestanding more than anything. I never am fascinated with integrated.

The law says if you buy from a retailer and you have a fault then your contract is with the retailer and therefore they have to deal with it, it's not the customer's problem. Reference the video on the Black Belt Barrister KZbin channel.

That is correct, but if a retailer is organising a service call with the manufacturer then it can be easier for the customer to do it as they know when they are in. Also the manufacturer will try and troubleshoot the problem with the customer direct while they have the product there which is normally very good and saves a lot of service calls.

Extended warranties also muddy this. The limited warranty is with wherever you bought the product from. An extended warranty may be with the retailer directly, the retailer as a broker, the manufacturer directly or a completely separate insurance/warranty company.
