Can this drill be done to with a snorkel or having your head in the water and holding your breath is better? Just thinking in terms of volume here and building the muscle memory.. Thks

Hi, you keep saying you need to kick from the hips, but in your demo near the end, your knee has almost an 80 degree bend and very little hip movement it seems. So, what gives? In many other videos from other coaches as well, they also say to kick from the hips but the underwater videos show a substantial knee bend as well. This is all very confusing to me. My kick is very ineffective and it seems I get more propulsion the more I bend my knee while also trying to rotate my hip as much as I can. Can you please comment about this? Thanks ps love your videos

thank you coach M! at last i visualize what kicking from the hip means. your isolation to one leg of the kicking with consequent spinning was of the utmost value. Also, i kick nowhere near so efficiently 😭

Luca Gian great! You will get it just a matter of time and consistency! 😀🙌🏼 -Coach M

i am consistent like the Northern star. coach w. sh today 500 mts of kindergarten drills (lateral kicking with breathing etc.) 300 mts backstroke kicking with extra care to the hips

So would you recommend the drill for technique instead of power or endurance...or can it be used for both?
@SWIMVICE5 жыл бұрын
Definitely technique but it is all relevant. You need to establish a proper connection in freestyle in order to achieve power and efficiency. So it's a win win! 😄🏊-Coach M

and now i see why i fail my 2 beats kick. i think i must pull against the rotation. if the leg doesnt push enough it stiffens sitting on the water. i must experiment further

@@SWIMVICE thank you! I'm looking forward to trying out the technique more and nailing the timing. Initially I thought of it as kick before hand enters but now I realise the kick is what starts the roll of the body over to the other side before the glide. Just need to practice it more 😁

I think the only way this could be any better is if I was actually in the water being trained by you! Thanks, Coach Mandy!

Is back kicking is another way to improve freestyle kicking besides vertical kicking?
@SWIMVICE5 жыл бұрын
Yes absolutely, if you focus on kicking from your hips it will help avoid the impulse to kick from your knees. Definitely another great option! -Coach M
