I have made a number of comparisons between my Libre 2 and my blood glucose meter. My blood glucose meter is one of the top brands available. My sensors usually read 20-30 units below my meter, but not always. Sometimes my sensor reads a little higher than my meter, not common. I have had two sensors that tracked almost perfectly with my meter for the entire 14 days. So when I start a new sensor I usually do a comparison reading and then occasionally after that. Usually when I get a low warning on my Libre my meter will read 90 or more. But I can't take that chance so I always check my meter when I get a low warning. The so called inaccuracy of the Libre bothered me a lot when I first started using the Libre, but I felt it's other functions outweighed the incompatibility issue. I have learned to live with it and it does not bother me that much anymore. For those who do take occasional fingersticks the question may be how to record that number. I was potting my meter readings in comments in notes. But I found out the other day that there is a better way, In Logbook there are two icons at the bottom of the screen. One is a droplet and one is a pen. If you click on the droplet a clock pops up. Tap ok and it will time stamp the entry you are about to make. Then it will take you to another screen where it shows a blank space to enter your meter reading and it shows a droplet next to the mg/dl space. Enter your meter reading here and it will be recorded on your logbook . The droplet icon is also recorded on the logbook so that you can tell the sensor readings from your meter readings. That took me a long back and forth with Abbott on Facebool to finally understand how that works. It is a nice feature.

I'm married to a type 1 and over the 29 years we have been together I've witnessed some awful hypos where I thought I was going to lose him. These have mainly occurred during the night. He started using the libre 2 and I can honestly say it's been an answer to prayer! It's giving us so much peace of mind knowing we can rely on the alarm before a hypo happens now. Such an amazing piece of technology...bring on the 3!!

@@TypeOneTalks hi 👋 I wonder if you can advise. My husband has been using the libre 2 now for over a month but twice...last week and last night, the low alarm failed to go off. He suffered a very bad hypo which was very distressing. Before sleeping he ensures his read is above his low alarm setting but it definitely has not worked. We are definitely not sleeping through the alarm as it is very loud and always wakes us. Is there any reason why this is happening and is there a way of checking alarm history?

Totally agree. I’ve had Type 1 for 30 years and had reasonable control but this has changed my life, the alarms are a brilliant feature and help prevent the worst hypos. After a year on Libre, my A1c is around the 6.4 level which is amazing….oh and no finger pricks or having to explain what you’re doing each time. Not perfect but bloody brilliant leap forward.

The Libre 2 was recommended to me because I couldn't "feel" when I was experiencing hypoglycemia anymore. I went under right in front of my Endocrinologist during a visit. Family was afraid to leave me alone, even to sleep. I've not had a major episode since I've been using it (3 months now). The alarms are life saving for me. I have peace of mind knowing I can go out by myself as well as remain home unattended. I have independence again.

I want to thank you very much for these videos. I Have been Type 2 for over 20 years. In the last five years, I have had two instances of extremely low blood sugar. Both times I was admitted to the hospital. The Libre2 with the ability to set alarms has saved me from the worry of waking up and doing a finger prick just to make sure my blood sugar wasn't dangerously low. In the last two months, I have had four sensors fail on initialization. Abbott replaced them after calling them and giving them the information from the sensor, Serial number, and date of initialization. These sensors are not perfect but they sure beat pricking your finger during the night because you're afraid of blood sugar crashing.

My Free Style Sensor was noticed on my arm when I went into surgery for a Cataract removal. A Nurse asked me what the patch was on my arm. When I said what it was The Doctor was very interested in it. She hadn’t seen one of these before. So I reached for my Mobile Phone & give her a Demonstration. She said, well we learn something new everyday. I had only inserted it the day before I was not very familiar with using it. I didn’t advise her how it was linked to the Diabetic Clinic at the hospital, so they were keeping an eye on my results 24/7. The Doctor was very impressed with it. I love your videos. Always informative and answer a lot of questions I may have. I have been Type 1 diabetic for 30 years and have been on the Libre 2 system for 1 year. It is so nice not to have to prick my finger to check my BG. I can scan and check as often as I want with no pain from a finger stick. I love having the low alarm because I don’t always feel my lows and I was having lows at night that I wasn’t waking up to treat. I have had accuracy problems but when I want to be sure of the reading I do a finger stick to get an accurate reading and treat from that. Otherwise I just enjoy the freedom this device gives me. I will be switching to the Dexcom and. Pump next year and will miss the affordability the Libre system gave me. I have recommended it to several people.

My personal experience with libre 2 is not good. The idea behind it is great but the device can be extremely inaccurate and we all know what can happen if there is a gap of 100mg/dl between the glucometer and the freestyle sensor. It can be potentially very dangerous. I believe we cannot underestimate this point otherwise we are not encouraging Abbott to consider more seriously this problem.

Thank you. It’s taken a while, but I’m pretty well set with my Libre 2. You did NOT mention anything about snagging it on doorways, or using patches to help in that arena. I began using the Libre 2 about 6 months ago and I see nothing but a benefit. My husband sometimes goes away for work and his largest concern was me having a low while I slept. My lows would sometimes be so severe that when he wasn't around I might of ended up in the hospital. Having the Libre 2 connecting to his phone as well as mine has given peace of mind. If the alarm goes off he will call me to make sure I am finding something to eat (even at 3am). If I don't answer my phone he calls my neighbour and gets her to come over to check on me. It is nice to see videos like these, so I can know that I am not the only one who struggles with these problems. I get criticism that I do not know how to manage my diabetes because of my lows. I know no other type 1 diabetics to compare the problems and struggles I have. I felt very alone and constantly questioned myself on what I was doing wrong, so it is nice to know that I'm not what people believe me to be (an irresponsible diabetic), so in the end the Libre has helped me so much to gaining more control.

I wouldn't do without my CGM (Libre 2), but their failure rate is poor. I dread changing every 2 weeks because there's about a 1-in-3 chance of the next one being faulty. I thought it might be just me, but my Diabetic Nurse says they've found the same at the hospital. When they're faulty, it's pretty obvious within the first day because you get crazy readings, way over 10% out of range. Abbott do change them without quibble, but it's a right pain and throws your stats out of whack. Plus if you change sensors in the evening and get a faulty one, you're likely to get woken by an alarm in the middle of the night!

When you recommended to drink a lot of water, I decided to give it a try just to see if readings were more accurate. Two weeks later I don't think I see any difference, but I'll keep at it as it's beneficial for other things. Am I not drinking enough? I set a reminder to drink a glass of water each 2hrs. My biggest and constant issue with the Libre 1 is that is always giving me false hypos, Libre 1 for me seems to skip any reading between 4.9mmol and 4.0mmol so when it gives me a 3.8, glucose meters give me 4.8. It's been like this for 3 years now. If I'm above 5mmol, then reading are more accurate, but anything below 4.9 in blood reading for the Libre is already a 3.9. Keep up the good work!

Nice video, for me it shows again that a CGM system is the best way to get blood sugars monitored. I talked very long to my doctor about this an he said, that it's not the number shown in the display what's important but the whole curve for the complete day. Of course, the measure can't be that accurate than a measure with blood from the finger. But you get a constant curve with trends for up or down in the moment you check the values. An this tells so much more than a (of course more accurate) value, but still just a value with no further information. I'm using CGM for about 4 years now and I don't want to miss it. And think about that: my fingers look normal again, no more signs of stitches Amy more...

My freestyle gcm read 61 when I woke this morning, while also indicating I hit the mid 40s while I was sleeping. I checked my blood (also freestyle) and it read 110. Thirty minutes later, my gcm said 62. I frequently have wide disparities of 50 to 70 points between my gcm and blood test, even though the same manufacturer. I wash my hands and use alcohol before taking blood tests. So I don't know what I am doing wrong. I don't think other people are having these same issues, but its like every other gcm I wear is bad. If this were common, we would hear more about it.

I called Abbott about the readings and they explained it that when you scan for glucose value, you get a last 15 minute average. The data it downloads it per minute. It shows a trend and that’s what’s most important to give you an idea where you are heading. It might be different than what people are used to, but it gives full understanding of what’s going on and you learn from it for the future. It’s the best thing I’ve used.

I'm type 2 and just started the Libre 2. Replacing my first sensor tomorrow to be exact. I don't mind people seeing it, I have my alarms set how I want them (they only bother me when they have to). The only issue I have is getting used to it being there (door jambs are my enemy now) and keeping it from wanting to peel off because I sweat a lot at work. (Rock tape works nice, tegaderm works better... still experimenting) Also, I like to scan it a lot. I'm always curious where my sugars are and really love that I can check it without chopping off a fingertip to do it. (My fingertips are super sensitive, fingerpricks hurt!!) I almost scan too much, says my diabetic pharmacist, but she says it's okay because I'm just starting out and understands why I'm doing it. (Trying to figure out what makes me spike, what makes me drop, etc)

Type 1 since 1970. Biggest frustration with Libre sensor is that most of my last few have failed early, usually 5 days. When I complain I get a free replacement. Normally a Libre sensor reads 20 mg/dl low (compared with a finger stick) when the arrow is level. I can live with that.

I have the 2 and live in the U.S. I hate that the phone app is stuck in limbo waiting FDA approval. By the time the 3 will come out (maybe in the US in who knows when), the 2 might be approved and then we’ll be waiting on the 3’s approval.

I am in Texas. I get really unhappy to see that we keep waiting on the app. The Libre 2 is such a great system for me in that I can react much quicker to it going high or low. I probably take 20 readings a day. My sugar graph has gotten much flatter and I use less insulin. Thanks to TOT for his hard work.

I take 2 types of insulin daily. My doctor recommended that I use the Libre 14-Day sensor with its reader. The insurance company will not cover it. The sensor works wonderfully giving both me and my doctor the information we need in controlling my blood sugar levels.

I LOVE , love my FS libre. I'm a new 1.5 diabetic, Doctors tell me my pancreas is 80% shot so it produces very little insulin. Anyway when I was first diagnosed after a severe bout with hep A I was sticking 8-10 times a day with my Onetouch because I was figuring out why my diet was so incorrect. The onetouch was so inaccurate. I did a test one day, same finger blood sample and got results from 120 to 178 six different measurements in a row. I was also passing out on the couch and not knowing why.. well my glucose was dangerously low! 1-With the libre I can measure anytime I want with no sticking and onetouch insecurity. 2- I love the alarm going off when my glucose goes below 90 from fasting or in the middle of the night. 3- I still dose 4-6 times a day but only because I check it about once an hour. I still have a lot to learn and love this channel!

I'm finding that I'm too clumsy to have the thing on my arm as I keep dislodging it! My other problem is I'm a side sleeper and it's uncomfortable to sleep on one side all night. Might just have to stick to the finger pricking.
@RichardHall-g1p
@RichardHall-g1p Жыл бұрын
OK, this needs to be pointed out. The Libre IS better than having to prick your finger dozens of times a day. Certainly. BUT it can be very dangerous if you are not aware of its significant flaws and if your blood sugar level sensitivity is not good. Why? The biggest problem is the latency of around 15 minutes. This means that if you trust it when dealing with highs or lows, it can leave you over correcting for the whole day. While my blood sugar level sensitivity is very good, when I first started using the system (a few years ago) I was massively caught out by the latency. I was showing low for much longer than I was, therefore I corrected for longer....which did seem strange at the time. This then sent me stupidly high. I then got caught out by the latency in the other direction. When I first started using Libre, the latency was not mentioned....in fact it was often hidden in order to promote it. It didn't take long to figure this out (as I said, long before it was actually mentioned by anyone), but it means that you cannot rely on the sensor during sport, for example. What else is a problem? The arrows are rubbish! Do not trust them. They will tell you that your blood sugar is not rising or falling and is stable, yet 5 minutes later it can show you a blood sugar level that is significantly higher/lower and still show "stable". Today I had..... 4.5 --> - 09:34 7.6 --> - 10:06 8.4 --> - 10:25 9.7 --> - 10:46 If you trust the arrows, you can be seriously caught out. For example, it is not uncommon to see an arrow pointing straight up to see it drop minutes later....just after you have injected to deal with the arrow going straight up. Insulin never works that fast, so you are then in a situation where you will be dealing with a low because you trusted the arrows. What the Libre IS good for is showing a retrospective view on your sugar for the whole day. This is the only reason I still use it. Once you know the significant flaws in the system and IF you understand your body and have good blood sugar level sensitivity, you can get by without blood tests for most days. But this is not a system to be trusted at all for real time results and you should seriously think twice about trusting the arrows.

I’m a type 2 diabetic. I was using it for almost two years but when I turned 65 Medicare would not cover it. I’m back to poking my fingers again. I did like it for the convenience of checking my glucose but it was always 20-30 points off (higher) than my regular glucose meter. My wife who is also type 2 seems to have better luck with closer readings between the two devices.

My first sensor was around 20 points too low. The second sensor is about 12 points too low. Today I got a reading of 72 and it was actually 96. It seem to be more accurate when my blood sugar is high.When my BG is over 150 it's really consistent in the 12 point difference.

I was very excited to get the Libre 2, after a few times using it I have decided to stay away, I didn’t get along with it due to having it attached to my arm, I’ve also been told I can’t use it else where. I’m in engineering and as a result knocked it a lot and it made me very self aware of the sensor, every time I got dressed, walked through a door or walked near people I got nervous about it, let alone doing work inside a cramped machine! Luckily my T1D is well controlled, I’ve had it over 23 years now.

While it's annoying to have the alarms go off at night from time to time-I'm grateful for it. I've only been using is for 4 months and being woken up and knowing that I need to fix something is peace of mind. My type 2diabetes is caused by my steroid ( which I cannot discontinue) so my numbers can very widely sometimes for no reason when it's time released into my system. While the high alarms are a bit annoying the low alarms are more then worth it.

Each sensor goes on two days in advance when I start a new one and it is then more stable. Alarms at night are a pain but no alarm is even more of a pain! The inaccuracy of one sensor compared with the next one means I need to keenly watch the first day to see if it over or under reads and occasionally one is erratic and does both. Thank you so very much for your excellent videos, they are the only ones I watch!

Hi! Although the moment of sensors has arrived, maybe we shouldn't give up on classic glucometers just yet. In addition, not everyone has or can afford a sensor. That's why I suggest you do a test... or a comparison. A comparison to check the classic blood glucose result, with that of sensors and several other glucometers. The condition is that immediately after taking blood from your vein, note down the result of the sensors and do it with several different glucometers. I think few ppl have many and various glucometers, and sensors even fewer. It's easy for you to be able to make such a comparison. And I don't think there has been such an experiment done by anyone so far. Or maybe i'm wrong. What do you say ? Will you act on such an experiment?

I think that my skin is very sensitive and rejecting the libre, now after a week of putting it on I'm getting inaccurate readings again. Example: Libre shows 60 when I'm at 90 or 100 on the finger prick which seem totally fine number to me
