@Type One Talks I came across your channel obviously looking for different sites for the sensor, I am personally not a diabetic but my fiance is. He just found out about 10 years ago and he is 50 now type 1 and he struggles ALOT with his sugar he use to average hospital stays twice a year due to ketoacidosis and even the medical professionals have a hard time getting his sugar back under control, thankfully his Dr has finally prescribed a Libra sensor so he tests more but we are new to this and trying to find out as much information as possible, thank you so much for the informational video ♥️

Definitely the chest area! I’ve been using FSL 2 since 2020. After trial and error (sleeping came off, doors-knocked off) it’s the BEST spot. I can always hide it under and away from my bra so it’s safe and my numbers are accurate! That’s what’s most important ACCURACY! Hope this helps someone.

Hi Tom, my dad is type 2 and we have been watching your videos because we had no clue how to even start with the sensor! We just started using the "chest" area because the upper arm was driving us crazy! It would over heat, fall off, get in the way, loose connection all night, just on and on. Since we moved to the chest it looks like its working much better now.

Hi Tom. I have been using the approved site for libre sensor since I started using one. The last couple of times tho, I've applied the sensor to the inner part of my upper arm such that the sensor is positioned between my arm and the side of my chest. I find this spot perfect because the sensor does not get in the way of any activity especially my regular yoga practice. Also more comfortable as o can sleep in any position I like. My yoga exercises will not allow me to use hips or thighs. I'm a little scared to apply it to my chest haha. Anyway this new location is working quite well for me. Thanks for the video Tom. Stay well.

Hey Tom, thanks for the great video. A person on Facebook recommanded it to me an hours ago and while it's completely logical to place the sensor somewhere else I've never really given it a thought except move it around a bit on the upper arm and change arms every 2 weeks when change the sensor. I've switched the Libre 3 late summer last year and I have to say it seems less accurate than version 2 for me, especially with a new sensor. The last few times it always had a deviation of 20-25 poins, sometimes up to 30 while a completely fresh sensor sometimes had up to 50, so I always have to give the device somewhere between 5-10 blood tests so it narrows it down, so giving other areas a try is a great suggestion. One thing I've found for myself that works exceptionally well is a piece of Fixomull which sticks really well to your skin, even better if you used an alcohol pad to rub your skin down beforehand. Greetings from Germany and have a great day.

I found this to be my favourite sensor placement, I found it to be very comfortable, accurate, much easier never got any errors, never detached before it’s time, my app picked up the sensor almost too good. Thank You for sharing this. I was about to abandon the sensor as I really hated the back of the arm, constantly got pulled off by clothing, constant read errors, sensor no longer working, really hurt to apply, but I have had no issues with the sensor since I now only use the chest placement spot, great video

Greatly appreciate eveything you do for us diabetics. Diagnosed T2 in early 2020. Began using the 14-day several months ago. Went with upper chest. One month ago I went with the arms as recommended. Little to no difference vs chest. The great majority of the time I find this Libre CGM to be 20% or greater different from my glucose meter. At times low, others high. I have 2 meters of different brands. Very close to each other. Even allowing for lag time, I simply have no confidence in the CGM. At 75.00 monthly I may soon send it down the road. Of course, if we ever get the 3 model, i might give it a go. Pricking the fingers 4 + times daily gets pretty old as well. Thanks again.

Thank you! I’ve had my Freestyle Libre 2 CGM on for my first 2 weeks. Tomorrow I’ll put on a new sensor and let it pre soak until the one is due to come off Tuesday. I’ve been struggling to figure out where else I can place this because I have a lot of arthritis that restricts my sleeping positions and most of them that I can use cause compression lows. I’m going to try the chest this time. Since the other sites you mentioned would definitely be troublesome for me. I’m definitely one who thinks out of the box for problem solving. My CGM is for my Postprandial Hypoglycemia and being Hypo Unaware sometimes. I don’t like the thing, but it at least saved me from dropping super low. My lowest were 25 & 31 over the past year and a half. Thankfully I didn’t pass out, but it takes so much to recover from those numbers. This was very helpful!!

I like putting my sensor on the inside of my upper arm, due to it not getting in the way with my active climbing life style and sleeping positions. I should warn people though, that if you are skinny like me, the upper inside arm can be painful if you hit one of your nerves running down the inside of your arm. I managed to hit my median nerve on my last sensor which caused my arm to seize, and I got severe stabbing/shooting pain all the way down to my fingers. It was too bad for me to continue with it, and I had to remove the sensor after only 2 days. My arm/nerve was in shock for a few days after that and now I'm quite pedantic when putting in a new sensor. This was a very rare case, but it's not fun going through the pain and costs associating with replacing a sensor prematurely. I enjoy hearing your tips and experiences Type One Talks.

My Dr. mentioned the Libre 3 and I was hesitant. But after several days of using it, and my blood always being monitored, without the lancets, I asked that my dr. would send a prescription to my medical supply in exchange of the "One touch" lancets. The "One Touch" was great, but after getting pricked 5 - 6 times per day, my finger tips were killing me. Again, thanks for the locations and when I receive mine, I'll be using them.

No one told me about compression lows while sleeping...this may explain why it looks like my sugar is 90 almost all night long! Next time I’m going to try putting it on my chest. Also, I was so afraid of knocking it off of my arm that I bought the patches to help secure it. It certainly made it feel more secure, but the patch was huge! I have been type 1 diabetic since 1982 (39 years). I’ve had my sensor for just over a year. We decided to try a new spot for the sensor as I bruise quite easily from it but t didn’t work. It broke off with the needle still in my arm & bleeding profusely, which we think is a dud sensor. Thank goodness I had another sensor, so we went back to the old similar spot. Oh well 😏

thank you so much for your videos ❤ I'm not diabetic, but I struggled with gnarly hypoglycaemia and bought a freestyle libre to get warnings when i'm about to keel over. Unexpectedly it helped me figure out the source of my issue, by monitoring my symptoms during lows I figured it's my liver that refuses to pump out sugar when I need it. So after researching, I started hyperdosing vitamin D and popping artichoke and milk thistle, but the game changer was choline. When I eat now, my sugar spikes and goes down suuuuuper slowly. I might buy a second FR2 to monitor my progress and this time i'll put it on my chest with your blessings 😂 I have super soft and squishy arms, it's really not the best placement for me, especially since I have weird sleeping positions and I still constantly bumped into everything with it. Also scanning is a pain.

Using the sensor on my upper arm kept providing false readings (usually 10 to 20 points lower) then when I would stick my finger. A couple of times i used to much insulin because of the sensor read. I stopped using the sensor, until now and now i put in on my abdomen. We'll see how that works

Great info. First video I've seen or other source of info that deals with this subject. But very important. Have been using the anterior upper arm--find it much easier to position my phone for scans here-difficult on posterior arm. Easy on abdomen but not quite as protected in bed. Will have to try the chest. I now see how lifestyles can affect choice of location. Placement over muscle groups which are actively exercised a lot could change readings.

Thank you so much. I will most definitely try the chest. I have been having trouble with my over bandages no longer sticking longer than 1 or 2 days even with skintac due to increased dry skin so was looking at other brands of CGM but I chose the Freestyle libre 2 not only for the price but because my main form of exercise is water aerobics so needed one I could wear in the pool. I also recently have been getting more errors so will definitely try the chest from now on.

Tom I've been watching you for years on and off. I dig your sarcasm lol. I have just been issued my first CGM Libre 3 but I'm wearing a 2 because all the 3's were bought up before I got mine. My first time wearing my sensor if fell off less than 24 hours. I'm O+ which means I have high acidic skin oil. The cover adhesive fell off and I didn't know till to late. What cover adhesive do you recommend and do you use those tacky prep wipes that make your skin stickier to keep the over cover on? Thanks, Best A.

My husband is going to be trying the Libre next week. He is very skinny (6 foot and 127 pounds), and is very active at work as a plumber. He doesn't have a whole lot of fat really anywhere on his body other than his thigh, so this is where he is going to try. With him being active at work, and on top of that, he does toss and turn in bed. Anybody who uses their thigh have any problems with it coming off in their sleep? Any recommendations on where in the thigh to put it to lessen the chances of it falling off?

Hi Tom! Thank you for this video (and the ones in this playlist). I've tried the FSL2 on my chest now, for almost 2 weeks. My upper arms are very full, flabby, and are riddled with scars/striae, so finding good placement there for the sensor was difficult, if I'd gone with the recommended outer upper arm (and I'm a bit clumsy when it comes to doorframes ;-) ). Inner upper arm isn't a good option for busty ladies, I can tell you 😀 Thigh wouldn't really work for me because the tight pants fashion dictates we should wear :-/ (yeah try to find affordable loose-fitting jeans for a woman, with spacious pockets, in my country...) But chest works wonders. Because of striae on my chest as well, I had to place it 4 fingers below the collarbone, and for the bustier ladies out there trying this: do wear a bra when applying the sensor, since it will take some of the stress off the skin). It sticks like a pro, and the curve follows my blood glucose very precisely. It seems to be accurate, taking into account the delay and the interstitial-fluid vs blood and slight abberation. The global curve is pretty much the same. I don't know if it is accurate enough, but I don't have the means to test that in any case. For me, this works very well and it still gives me a good enough indication of what's going on with my glucose. When I see spikes, or things I don't expect, measuring blood glucose is quickly done to verify. When the FSL3 finally comes to The Netherlands, I'll test that on my upper arm.... maybe. Or I'll just stick to chest, since it seems to work so well :-)

I find the upper arm hard, especially in the summer, where i always use a backpack and touch the sensor while putting the straps over my arms. You talked about the upper arm, forearm, and thigh but what about the calf? There is a limit to how many places to attach the sensor to in the upper arm. When people have seen the sensor on my arm they want to know what it is. I love educating people and they like to know what it is and what it's for. This helps those with diabetes that hadn't heard of it or did but knew very little about it. They were very thankful to learn about the sensors and became interested to try it themselves. Wouldn't anyone here want to do learn about it before? It's so nice to test it anywhere I want when I want without having a safe place to do the poking of my fingers. If I felt low, before there were alerts, and was on the buses I don't have to find a place to test. I can do it then and eat something sweet without a change in my plans. By the way, which is cheaper using the sensor when ever i want with the same sensor and how many times or for each lance and needle when you can't used the same ones?

Ms Binetti below is right as rain. I have used chest placement and problems disappear. No knock off, comfortable and very accurate. However when the needle broke on last installation, I told Abbott in chest and they will not warranty it. They claim it is because of improper placement. ?????? I also wet shave the new spot every time. It's adhesion is much better. Have used since went to 14 day usage, three years?

Thank you so much for the information and clear explanation of all spots with helpful tips. You are really fantastic and thorough and its great to get your expert feedback! Out of curiosity since chest is your number 1 spot, have you had any smaller framed females complain of discomfort. With little peck area I almost think a little lower top of breast might be a bit more comfortable. As far as I could tell the chest sounds best and I think it's probably gonna be the next spot I try if the thigh is not perfect since ya girl got some thighs, haha! Hi Tom. Thanks for your input. I alternate between my chest and back of the arm. I find the results on my chest are pretty spot on compared to fingers sticks. My problem is, I’m in that small percentage that over time has developed a reaction to the adhesive. I’ve experimented with many different methods, and the one that works the best is placing the sensor over hydro seal bandage. But even covering everything, I can’t get it to stay on more than 10 days. I posted a how to video on my channel on the method that works best for me,

I have to say I have not had a problem with keeping it attached on the surface skin of my tricep, I do actively try to limit getting it wet when I bathe even though I know it’s supposed to be water resistant to a degree. For me as a female I’m not so on board with using it on my chest due to strappy concerns and showing through clothing more obviously (which is ridiculous really as I wear clothing exposing my arms when it’s hot?!). I think I may try my thigh or abdomen though as I’m a clutz but even I don’t think I could possibly knock a Libre off those locations! ;@)

I tried on the breast/chest and it worked for a few times however I have had 2 consecutive bad experiences. First time it was while removing the sensor, at the needle point site when I removed the sensor I bled and it caused a red hard wound like surface (like an ingrown pimple would look like) which is still, 5 weeks later not gone. My Dr. said that the breast takes a LONG time to heal and she was not concerned. SO the next time I tried placing the sensor on my breast with a bad response was just this week. I don't know if I hit my pec muscle (I do Crossfit workouts at least 4 times a week) but I could feel the needle in my chest and it was very uncomfortable. In addition I saw some blood collecting in the middle of the sensor like it was seeping up from my breast. After about 40 min I could not tolerate the feel of the needle sticking in me so I removed the NEW sensor (hated to waste it) and my breast was actually bruised! So no more placing it on the breast/chest for me! I have now just applied a new sensor to my "love handle" area not on the front like you demonstrated but more on the side towards the back. My abs are pretty much all muscle and when I tried it on my abs (closer to the belly button) I could also feel the needle sticking in me so I am assuming that if the needle is in your muscle it is NOT good and needs to be in a more fleshy spot. Hoping that this new placement will be a final solution for me.
