ABOUT US
We’re Jenna Haufler and Miguel Mattox-
With humble roots as college swimmers, we’ve worked hard to become two of the country’s leading age-group triathletes, and are now on a mission to become professional athletes while still having fun along the way. We swim-bike-run together, eat together, sleep together, and make videos together for our own (and hopefully your) enjoyment.
Throughout our documented journey, watch how a couple of ambitious 20-something-year-olds work towards their life goals in a disciplined yet untraditional, not-so-serious manner.

I had PF for 2 years without PT (didn’t know to go). Had 1 round of cortisone shots but didn’t help too much. Minus PT, I healed my PF with orthotics, ice socks, and massaging with muscle cream every night. Now I have insertional Achilles tendonitis (another year as I thought it would now be the norm) and haven’t run in 4 weeks. Starting PT this week and hoping for the best- ready to be pain free when running after 3 years 🤞🏼 Appreciate your sharing as I relate to your pain and frustration. Getting ready for 70.3 Waco this October and have been grateful for your channel. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

I'm sort of in the same boat as Miguel at the moment. I just came off a left ankle sprain and after an Olympic triathlon this weekend I'm getting some severe pain in my left foot. I've used generic insoles in the past, but I think it's time I get some more serious ones... And do some foot/ankle strengthening exercises We're all on the road to being fast and healthy together!

Thanks for all your videos! For you plantar fasciitis I recommend walkhero insoles in all your shoes especially your running shoes and powerstep sandals. Never go barefoot until you are healed. Begin with walking and then walk and runs as you get better. This worked for me and Maybe it will help you, all the best.

Great to see another video. Loved the underwater footage. Sorry about the injuries. Shockwave helps a lot of people with PF but I know it’s a super frustrating injury. In the meantime, you can do more swimming footage/workouts in the videos! That’s my fave.

SO sorry to hear about the injuries...esp the PF--it's horrible. I've battled it twice now a few years apart, first in the left, then the right foot, ugh. A few things I've learned to really help combat it: kinetic stretching before and after runs and bikes, massaging out the fascia nearly every night, and strengthen the glutes and the feet/ankles. We're all different and so I hope and pray you can figure out the key factors to spur on healing! God bless, Megan

As a competitive endurance athlete / coach for over fifty years you learn to focus on what you can do and not what you can’t I just broke my arm and won’t be back in the water until 2023. As a 67 year old runner the mileage has to stay low. So not being able to swim everyday is challenging. The plan was to train for Masters long course Nationals 2023 and now it’s TBD 13 months out. This is all part of it .Stay positive

Watched this and have felt your Achilles pain. My immediate thought? Wish they came down to Long Beach. I kept watching and yay, you are coming down here! I had Achilles pain and eventually Planter Fascia pain for six years. Tried a few things and nothing helped. A tri friend referred me to Jason Miller, a massage therapist. He was the therapist for the US Track and Field-team. He gets athletes. It was the cupping technique that took away the pain in one treatment over a year ago. He teaches cupping all over the world to other practitioners. So, if your schedules align, I think he can help you both.

Great to see you guys back again! Hey a question for your swimming buddy, how does he like the Xterra wetsuit. I can’t seem to find many legit resources reviewing them, and what reviews I do find seem to be very polarizing.

you should never dive down with swim goggles, because you cant do pressure balance and risk barotrauma to the eyes. Use dive goggles where the eye compartment is connected to the nose piece!

Regarding plantar fasciitis. There’s some great episodes of The Run Smarter Podcast that talk about some of the misconceptions of the best ways to treat it. Highly recommend episode 222 with Jen. One thing in particular that was helpful was to focus more on strength training. Hope this helps and that you’re back at it soon. 😁

As someone who also has plantar fasciitis, go to a podiatrist and get some custom orthotics. I’m 40 and have gone through lots of pairs in the last 30 yrs. I’m in the process of getting more made now as running 100km a week, you go through them quickly.

I only met you the day at Escape from Alcatraz race but have loved watching your content on KZbin. So can I be your friend? Sorry there have been some injuries. Wow, the deep underwater stuff is fun to watch. I am housing a few pros for Legacy Tri so I'll be up there watching the races and look forward to seeing you both. Miguel, where the drone goes, you go!

Hope to see you back in shape for 70.3 worlds Miguel. It's easier said than done (as we all love running) but I've found with myself I have to really restrict my run mileage to reduce injury risk and increase swim & bike volume as ultimately if you are stronger on the swim and bike you will run better (taken less out of you) and be in a better position in the race in T2 anyway!

I feel so bad for you. I am 52 and had never had foot or any injury problems my entire life until doing the 70.3 in Hawaii last year. Did it in some Nike Alphafly which I had only used for a few short runs prior. After the race my foot really hurt but never having to deal with this, didn’t know what it was. I thought I had just stepped on a rock or something. After a couple more days of vacation it felt like a 1000 degree ice pick stabbing into my heal. I thought this isn’t right and did some research to find out it was planter fasciitis. One Dr visit and about 4 months of night braces and stretching and all the other recommended things and I was about 50% better, 9 months and I was 90% better and right about the weekend the race happened this year I realized I no longer feel anything. It’s a really bad injury to work through. Wishing you lots of luck with your recovery.
