THANK YOU! Your instructions were great. Now I can watch Paul McCartney @ Glastonbury. I’d like to add a few fixes. I have a Samsung TV with Android apps. 1st-When I downloaded Downloader app and BBC iPlayer app I got a “Special Storage Permission” required error. I went into Android Permissions and gave Downloader approval. 2nd-I installed the NordVPN app on the tv and chose a UK server. Not sure if this was necessary or not, but it worked. Then I used my iPhone, selected a NordVPN UK server, and registered on BBC iPlayer. 3rd-I entered a UK Postal Code and selected “I have a TV license”. I’m now watching one of McCartney’s best shows ever. Thanks again.

You’ve just changed our life. I player has been continuously refusing to load on SONY Android TV with Sony Select for 2 years - every time we had to completely switch off TV twice for I player to work. Just followed your instructions and it works every time ❤❤❤

iPlayer just disappeared from my KE48A9 today, tried resetting etc to no avail and didn't realise it wasn't available in the Play store. Luckily your video is very clear and downloaded and installed without issue, cheers 👌🏻😁

Just did this on my Sony Bravia TV. We’ve oBly had it three years and they removed the app a few months ago and it’s infuriating! This video guide worked for me so thanks very much you’ve stopped me stressing out about having to buy a newer tv which supports it

Big thanks for this. I was using the bundled version on my Shield Pro, which had started to give me pauses/stutter on playback. I uninstalled that version, then replaced it with yours. No more stutters 👍👍 (I've disabled auto update)

Thank you! I got ITVx and Channel 4 to work. The only one I can't get to work is iPlayer. iPlayer works everywhere but my Android box, on the box I get a connection error. Good to be able to use the 2 out of three on my TV again and not need to use on my tablet/laptop. BBC is the one I was most wanting though to catch up on soapies lol... but it works elsewhere. Thanks so much for the opening/close fix for ITVx!

Thank you for this fix - it worked a treat, and for the All 4 app, too. Would it be possible to add the BBC Sounds app too, pretty please? Also, and this may be a stretch... Some of the apps that I have installed on my Android 11.1 TV box don't appear in the Apps menu, and there's no obvious way that it can be done. The method recommended by Google themselves only applies to "some" versions of Android TV (but they helpfully don't say which). (It involves going to the "Home Screen" option in "Settings", but this option isn't available on my box. The only way of opening the apps is to go to "Settings" / "Apps" and locating the app that you want, and clicking on "Open", which is a pain in the neck. Any advice you can offer on this would be extremely welcome! Thanks again! Graham

@@smokeandquills Hi there. My problem "went away". I was trying to load the UK catch-up services by loading APKs. This was due to Sony advertising, but not providing the built-in apps. Sony rectified that on 21st December with a firmware update, so I did not pursue the APK route any further. Sorry I can't offer any other advice.

Hi Adam, not sure if you are aware of ITV live TV will no longer work when you use VPN. I tried several VPN providers and they say ITV have blocked them. Some folks like me who live outside the UK have to use a VPN and have no choice. We have a Firestick lite on a Sony TV running Android. I will try to get BBC on the TV but BBC does not show up or ITV on the play store even if we use a UK VPN. Pretty sure I'm not the only person trying to solve this issue.

Hi bud. Yes most vpn's are blocked with iplayer & itv hub. I know Quad vpn works and pretty sure ivacy does (both in the description). Also Torguard works I think. There's also StreamLocator that works but isn't a vpn, it's purely for unlocking region locked content.

awesome! thanks, it’s bloody daft that a brand new tv doesn’t support basic TV apps, especially when you pay for a licence. shame your ITV and Peacock app links don’t work tho.
