Xiaomi Mi Box S Review (Is it any good?)

I’ve been using this box for neatly a year. I paid $35 US. I have a Fire Stick 4K also. I prefer the Mi Box S. It has performed flawlessly. My only gripe is that I can’t remotely access external attached drives unless It is converted to internal (adoptable) storage.

You got the 2gb RAM, I got the 8gb RAM on the MXQ Pro, my first one was 2gb but the 8gb RAM makes a big difference, no skips and no freezes but keep in mind Internet speed Is also important. This is the BEST device in the world to have, fire sticks ain't got nothing on video streaming like these devices have. The best!

I own one and I like it a lot despite some limitations. Basically I have to clean it quite often as I use tvzion on it. However, it should be noted that it has Chromecast built in! That's a pretty big deal. Peace!

Great vid am looking for a new box and this looked perfect. Until I read in a review that you cannot add British TV apps ie BBC iplayer, all 4 etc. Just wondering how much of this is true. Great TV Box, playes everything you want it to. Only a extra USB port would have been nice and some more storage. Popcorn time for example wont work because there isn't enpgh storage left. I found a good alternative in the meantime, Morph TV. Keep on cracking on the good reviews.

Decent little box. I just received my Amazon 2019 Fire Cube and I love it. I have 3 4K Firesticks and they work great but this new cube is awesome. But I have discovered that Cinema HD is crashing on the new cube. Other apks seem fine and working well. I know you can get on this issue. Help us out Adam! Great video as always.

For more or less the same price, The new Google Chromecast with Google TV is now the better option. It has the latest relevant CPU and GPU, the latest Android OS and new Google TV UI. It's compatible with Dolby Atmos, has BT5 and uses USB-C. A no-brainer!

If your going to do tests for things such as 4K, it needs to be actual streams, the way KZbin is it rarely struggles to play anything. Same goes for anything from a USB, you never have issue's with anything from an external drive that's already downloaded so I think these tests are kind of pointless, and will most likely be the same across 99% of boxes. I love your content, just pointing out my view. Thank you for talking about updates too as that's something you want from a box, as apposed to something that's no longer supported, and then also won't get any security updates or anything. Also would like to see you test ExpressVPN and the other top ones such as IPvanish etc.. I bought a box you reviewed and installing ExpressVPN was harder than it should've been, I found a way to make it work but the average user wouldn't be able to.

Hey how are you. When it comes to playing 4K content you will find KZbin and Netflix to be the best streaming platforms to test on as they're full 4k streams. A lot of boxes struggle to give you good 4K playback on KZbin and that's why it's used to test. It's not a case of KZbin is expected to be good, it's a case of how good can the box stream that quality. Playing from a USB shows true quality of the box as not all marked as 4K are. I have a video of IPVanish, Nord and Express VPN speedtests etc.

That is an Xbox One controller. That Android box is $20 cheaper on Ali Express. After owning this box for a few months, I must say I do not recommend it. Small internal storage space, one USB port and nothing else for peripheral connections. It does not have a shutdown option ( restart only). After a few days its slow to respond, so you have to pull the power cord to get it to shutdown and clear the memory. You have to jump thru hoops to install Amazon Prime.

Hi, a really interesting product. I have a portable projector that only has an HDMI input that I use in my campervan powered from a USB battery bank or socket. What would be the easiest device I could use to stream downloaded content from BBC or Netflix when I don't have an internet connection. I have an iPad and an android phone. Well, I bought the mi box s after watching this, Just a couple of points to note though, I've only been able to install the my5 app, which was in the official store, all the others, BBC iPlayer, All4 and ITV hub cannot be installed by any method due to rights it seems, however since I'm a lazy git and hate using my remote or my wechip keyboard, I've installed the apps on the old dog & bone and for me its great streaming works a treat, my next issue was downloader, not sure if I got a dodgy box (it was used from cex, cos I'm an impatient git and didn't want to wait for shipping) upon installation downloader told me to type in something (I can't remember now what, cos I'm a forgetful git) so that was it, I had a micro paddy called the box all the names under the sun and was ready to return it THEN I discovered an app called send files to TV, which can send files from an Android device to your TV (including APKs) so I swiftly installed this and sent Troypoints rapid app installer to my TV, where low and behold I found the missing browser plugin for downloader( see above just remembered what it was called) so now I have a great little box running how it should, so thank you Adam, I love it, it took some tweeking but its miles apart from my fire stick. PS if you ever review projectors may I suggest the vankyo lesuire 470c, which is an awesome projector and does give a good picture in light.

Hi. You will see when going into quality settings you have different options for quality. The plug adapter seems to work well for me but I understand there maybe some which are deemed safer. Also the update for the Nvidia Shield is at 8.0.1.

Cracking bit of quality kit. Runs off 12v so it's spot on for a caravan or motor home. On t'other hand Nvidia Shield needs 19v so T'exeyeomi is a no brainer for us campers, well, for this one it is. I’ve got a question, I downloaded the Real-Debrid apk from your page. When I download with it on my fire stick it only downloads approx half the file, then of course you can’t play it. I downloaded a 1.4gig video through Cinema, then the same from the same link through that apk, and it downloaded about 745mb. Any ideas there?

Hello. Have just received my Mi box s. PLEASE HELP if you can. I am having a hard time trying to download anything from the playstore provided. Have tried downloader, puffin browser and the lets crack on site but these won't let me download filelinked. The playstore app on the box itself will not let me download chrome or es file explorer. Eyup bud. I just did a review of the MECOOL KM2 on my other channel Let's Crack On and that could be worth looking at. But. The Mi Box S is still a pretty goo device with similar spec. Download an app called side load launcher from the store and when opening that you should see your apps. As for iPlayer, I will take a look, I think the Stream Locator Filelinked has an Android TV version.
