Nashville is deaf to a man like Chris .They know they won't be able to mold and sanitize him to how they want him to sound. The truth is he is too good and real a Country Musician for them. Chris is my age and I reckon we've been at it about as long as each other. I couldn't do the road anymore. Two nights in a row is my limit these days around home without two off. My hats off to him. The road's a tougher life than people think. And I was just an opening act for headliners as a Skynyrd tribute band playing with my nephews 10yrs younger than me as singer/lead guitar. It's a young mans living. That voice to me is "truth". I can tell he's lived some of his songs. Plain and simple. 👍🎸

@@steelyankee I'll be 70 next year and these videos will be 15. I no longer make videos. 3 concerts in 3 days is tough on me and I just go as a fan. Don't give up just yet, tho. I've seen a lot of 80+ year olds doing great shows including Buddy Guy, Roger McGuinn and Richard Thompson.

@@freetickeysI don't know what I'd do without playing. My nephews still jam with me and that's probably another reason I'm still at it. I also do a solo act acoustic. More outlaw country with that. Thanks brother for the encouraging words. 👍🎸

I have that same t shirt that Chris is wearing. It’s a 95.3 The Range shirt from north Dallas Texas from way back when it was a great radio station. Nowadays The Range is a joke, playing pop country garbage. Still I’m glad it was a great station to listen to 20 years ago. I discovered some true and great country music talent from listening to it.
@freetickeys
@freetickeys 2 жыл бұрын
Our local great station was WNKU. Northern Kentucky University sold the station and it now plays gospel music and not the kind of gospel I listen to. So, I know you're pain. I had to beg stations to play his music. Now their websites use this video to promote his local shows. Go figure!
@joshjones6536
@joshjones6536 2 жыл бұрын
@@freetickeys the Range 95.3 back in the day was so different and so much better. They played all the old country from before the outlaw country came along, outlaw country and a lot of up and coming artists at the time the most main stream/pop country fans didn’t know about. Artists like Chris Knight, Robert Earl Keen Jr., Ray Wylie Hubbard, Leftover Salmon, Billy Joe Shaver, Todd Snider, Hank Williams III, Jack Ingram, Junior Brown, I could go on and on. I used to have all my favorite heavy metal bands stickers on my trucks’ back window with a Range sticker right in the middle of it. Yeah, I know what you mean, it’s hard having something like a great radio station go to 💩💔😢

He signs stuff, takes pictures with fans, answers their questions and hangs around till everyone gets theirs. So, my advice is to bring your cd inserts down to get em signed after the show and maybe buy a "beer hugger" and a hat while your there and perhaps his new cd "Little Victories". Chris has been gracious enough to allow me to tape him 6 times. The first 5 times were with a bottle of 7yo Jim Beam in one hand and a small consumer camcorder in the other. I grew up on Bill Monroe. I love the mandolin. However, I know it's not everybody's "thing". Thanks for watching, tho.

I once heard that in an interview he was asked are any parts of this song were true, he thought for a moment and said "Parts." Did a google search one night on his home town,family,death reports,police reports. Didnt find much and on google maps i looked at a close river, dried up, not much of a "river" Slaughters, Kentucky is where he's from and where i did my diging, if y'all find more please let me know. Thats all from me, y'all take it easy

I think the only parts which are true is the parts about being on a boat, drinking and fishing. This song, like a lot of his music, is a character study. Nothing more. His earlier writings are chockful of killings. Hell, in "Long Black Highway", he gets killed and comes back to haunt his killer. Do you want to waste some more of your precious time and investigate that one, too?
