Spot on mate. I’ve spent so much time focusing on Carey’s drumming that I have been guilty of forgetting how fine JC and AJ’s playing is on this record. And it’s the best vox that Keenan has ever committed to tape. I believe it’s their magnum opus. This record will stand the test of time. If it’s their last album, what a fucking way to go out! Something tells me it’s not the last though...

I wasn’t in a good mood for the first three songs. I liked it, but I wasn’t a huge fan of 10,000 days. I thought that it sounded way too close to Lateralus and the first part of the album sounded like it could have been entered into either of those. Even some of the chords from Pneuma sound very similar to parts of The Patient and Schism. But!!!!!!! Half way through, so I guess about half way through Invincible, it felt familiar, but started to tip into something a little more refined. After 7empest wrapped up, I felt like I misunderstood way too much or missed something. So, I listened again, and felt the same results, so I listened again. Now in my free time I’m going through certain parts of the album in my head. Now I’m getting it. It’s showing the transition of age and experience. That it’s going to take you from something familiar to something that makes you have to process what you’re experiencing, making you observe, learn, and expand. It’s a fucking masterpiece. I’m a Maynard fanboy til the end. I’ve been to the dude’s restaurant, bought his wine, and I’ll support any project he puts out. But, I liked how he almost just hovered over the tracks sonically, dipping in and out like a cold breeze, just to dip out and wait to show himself again. Adam Fucking Jones surprised me. I’d get lost in the rhythm and would start to get bored, only for him to change it up just in time. But, if I was going to point out a song that can showcase his style from the early 90’s all the way until 2019, it would be in 7empest. Justin as always redefines how a bass can be played. Danny “The Mother Fucker” Carey is and will always be on the Mt. Rushmore of anyone who has ever tapped anything together to make a sound. If you hate the album...you aren’t getting enough fiber and you’re too grumpy, or you need to hop off that e-scooter, take a walk, and live at a pedestrian speed long enough to soak it in. 7 out of Fucking 10, I’ll probably like it more in six months when I’ve burned myself out.

I would be disappointed if thier emotional and intellectual maturity *didn't* come through on this album. It is exactly what we need right now, and you're dead-on with the Pink Floyd comparison. got into Tool when Lateralus was launched, then worked backwards. Once I got my head around the Grudge, Tool started to make sense. Aneima was much easier to follow, but the drumming less complex and pronounced in production and sound. I would like to say I have an educated taste in a very broad range of music. I equally enjoy Porcupine Tree and the equally talented drummer Gavin Harrison...I am certainly not a journalist with those talents. But I do know when an album hits you, if you allow your critical brain to switch off, and let the music take you. Rather than how original the new angles are, or any niggles you are trying to look for. or nods to the past... If my instincts are correct, I think another album might return sooner than you think, with a turn in direction or evolution. This album was a love letter to existing fans, with a maturer outlook in structure, with the restrained singing to support this. I think that many younger generation fans will simply not get it. I suggest they listen to Led Zeppelins first live album or Fleetwood Mac, Boston Blues Rattlesnake Shake.. (one of the greatest improv 3 front guitar solos competing against each other;. where you have 20 mins of musical and drumming genius.. I think this was a well balanced and amusing take.. rather than some of the AMercian botty water on the tube by some. ... Sure, some diehards many might say Master of Puppets was Metallica's finest album, but a hell of a lot more people enjoyed Black more... Critics suggesting Aemina was Tool's most critically acclaimed. Perhaps at the time, they were more ground breaking, as they were still in their infancy, with not body else doing what they did. Personally, Aneima hit me after getting into Lateralus first, almost as an antidote for the high complex music structures of lateralus..... But to suggest that FI is their worst album is utter bollocks. 10,000 days is not a patch on this album as a whole, despite its high points. First off, the production and the silkiness of the guitar found in FI is in itself engaging. The transitions of guitar melody and rhythms build to perfection, The more you listen, you hear more of the clues, that the time changes are coming, like the end of Invincible track. Keenans vocal are at his best, although a few more 7emptest vocals would have been nice and I agree, the range was modest, but still fantastic and fitted the album. The drumming has never sounded so good let alone the talent. I found 10,000 days production not as pleasant as Lateraulus. And this album exceeds the quality of Lateralus sound wise.The drumming was not as memorable on 10,000 days either... The guitar has been more interesting on this album for most parts, and the open jamming nature is fun. Sure, there are some technical or harmony journeys I would still like Tool to investigate... but this is the first album for me, where I felt that all the songs were well crafted and ones you want to keep returning too. But essentially, this is a one track album that has been split up to keep all the band happy. so there is deliberate structures to it; playing on the long build ups. In short, this album felt emotionally engaging. it does have some wonderful vocal with drum/bass led tunes that stay with you, and cohesion with the other tracks. (not talking about the fillers rubbish on the digital version. I think it would be more interesting if they used fillers to show their beauty or lyrical guitar/vocal capable talents, not yet fully shown on any of their Tool albums enough). . if felt less disjointed than the sterile construction of Lateralus (in relative comparison, which was still a superb album)... I guess FFI spits those who like the build of true prog, and those who like more immediate hits. FI just gets better after long listens.. as an album. It felt like a musical trip. My only gripe, was that there were only 6 tracks. I keep reminding myself, this really was one big track broken down.. That said, this is the first Tool album where all the songs were strong in their own ways and the tunes stay with you. When there are short periods of musical hooks, you really appreciate them more, as they only offer a few moments in each track.. but memorable. The most obvious example ' inhale, exhale'... And how 7empest was not considered one of the best songs escapes me. Descending has catchy vocal repeats... And no mention of the growth of the guitar work here!

It's a grower of an album. There are zero bad tracks, at least in terms of the songs. Some may take or leave the segues here. My first impression was similar, leaning toward more lukewarm, but now I think it's quite solid. This one is for Tool was Animals was for Pink Floyd.

My first listen I put the album at about 8/10, but we each successive listen that number keeps growing. I've not listened to any of the filer material yet so I can't comment on the digital exclusive stuff, but the main CD selections are fucking epic. At this point I'm at about 9.5/10. I was really worried this album would be a disappointment, but that, thankfully, is not the case.

Once you let the album sink in I think it becomes obvious that the album is entirely... about itself: 1. Fear Inoculum - When and whether will there ever be another album, will it be any good? 2. Pneuma - The band works as a single unit, they all need to be on one page to get it done properly 3. Invincible - Is the band still relevant? Does the music matter? 4. Descending - They can see the end of their career, it's getting closer 5. Culling Voices - We don't care about the social media fanatics 6. 7empest - Well that's obvious as well, Tool itself is the tempest - teasing fans and public, and living in time signatures with "7".

Worth hearing the album though. It took a fair few listens for it to sink in but it was worth it in the end I think

I think it was under produced. But to get anything out is; absolutely astonishing, a great feat.

I wanted the album to be heavier, songs like Ticks and Leeches or Vicarious but I still like the album. It's very soothing

Here's an interesting fact If we consider Opiate as an album instead of an EP We have 6 Tool albums: 1. Opiate 2. Undertow 3. AEnima 4. Lateralus 5. 10 000 days 6. Fear Inoculum Fear Inoculum took 13 years to be released... 13 is the 6th number in the fibonacci sequence which theoretically defines the way all things in the universe are formed (the golden ratio as 1 2 3 5 8 13...) If tool keeps this shit going we could expect the next tool album in 21 fucking years!!!! (I CANT WAIT!!!!)

And if we consider Salival to be an album all is ruined cause fear inoculum is now the 7th album. And if we include their demo then it's the 8th!

Salivial is a compilation album with live songs. It's not a studio album.
@saulvillarreal40865 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisAdams-fc2mn Salival is a live songs compilation unlike Opiate that have studio recordings that are not in any other tool album... So... No

@@saulvillarreal4086 What about their studio produced demon?
@saulvillarreal40865 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisAdams-fc2mn 72826 demo included: Cold and ugly (also in Opiate) Hush (also in Opiate) Part of me (also in Opiate) Crawl away (also in Undertow) Sober (also in undertow) Jerk-off (also in Opiate) Opiate had almost all 72826 songs plus sweat and Opiate which are not in any other Tool album and it was sold in music stores unlike 72826... that's why I consider it another album instead of an EP... But it doesn't matter it was just a "joke" comment 🤘

I can’t lie, initially I was a little disappointed with the album. A couple of weeks after release, it clicked and I realized it’s another masterpiece in their catalog. It’s still a good bit away from their previous ones for me, however. This album may have the best drumming, though. Aenima/Lateralus both tied for my #1 Undertow 10,000 Days Opiate F.I.
