My dad passed away on December 13th, 2011. He was 36 years old and was taken by lung cancer. He was a thrash metal guitarist all through his youth, then we got him an acoustic. He never touched an electric guitar again. He listened to TOOL religiously and all of his music was similar. He was fantastic. I remember the long car rides with him listening to TOOL nonstop. I hate that he isn't here to experience this album with me. This song in particular makes me miss him. I like to close my eyes and pretend he's here listening with me. RIP TJ Butler. I love you, daddy.

My father was a major tool fan, and played their music all the time while I was growing up. Sadly I never got into them myself until about a year ago. My dad passed in 2014 so I will never get the chance to enjoy the band with him, but I fully understand why he found such solace in their music. Well dad, they finally released a new album like you wanted, and I'm happy to say that it is fucking amazing. R.I.P Dennis Burchett 11/28/2014

Carey's drumming is organic, dynamic and unconventional. He doesn't keep a beat, yet he does. Even the odd timing isn't repetitive. Very unique in his approach. Typically a drummer establishes a beat of some sort then adds flourishes and fills. Carey does that without doing that. His drumming frames the song, drives the song, and is the song's foundation. His drumming has more to do with the unique sound of Tool than any drummer who influenced the sound of their band since Keith Moon. The early Who would have never sounded the way they did without Keith. I can't imagine another drummer taking Carey's place and having Tool sound like Tool. He's the heart of the band.

This song is like a battle cry! I've been listening to it nearly every day for at least four years during my workouts. It builds up so intensely! Im from Norway, and in my mind it conjures up the image of an ancient berserker Viking entering his final fight, pouring out every ounce of his strength. "Warrior, struggling to remain relevant, to remain consequential" - these words echo as the tempo shifts, and I envision the berserker steeling himself for his ultimate battle. Then, around the 8:50 mark, he throws himself into the fray, wielding his longsword, plunging deeper into the melee, facing increasingly brutal challenges. "Before now, feel the sting, feeling time bearing down, bearing down" - he fights with everything he has, cutting down his last enemies, and in his death finds tranquility... Valhalla awaits.

the first time I heard this and Maynard said the lines "feel the sting, feeling time, bearing down" it just hit me like a ton of bricks... suddenly I'm all too aware of the 20-some odd years that have passed since I first became a fan of this band.. very humbling and sobering, just the reality the inevitable passage of TIME, onward, unflinching, merciless, never stopping, leaving us all behind eventually... Damn, anyhow! On a lighter note, one of the first things I sort of associated with this song, other then my own personal feelings, man... I thought of the undertaker. The pro wrestler the undertaker! Arguably the greatest CHARACTER of all time.. I was a huge fan as a kid, and now as an adult I have almost a new appreciation for the business, and.. I dunno. The dead man, the phenom, the fuckin LEGEND, the undertaker... Every time I hear this song now I think of him. Thanks for the memories sir, and you will forever be missed! You had the career of a lifetime, and you have more than earned your place in history! Heavy shield down.. ✌️✌️✌️ *(ps) going to see tool in like ten days, at Bridgestone in Nashville! I definitely wasn’t in as long as you were. I looked forward to coming home and leaving the service. Once I got out I realized how hard it was to “leave the service.” Just because we leave the war behind and transition to civilians doesn’t mean we cease to think and feel like warriors. I can’t imagine how the adjustment is after 20 years. This song really does strike deep in the sense that you described.

Musically it's insanely good but what gets me the most is how awesome I feel while listening to it. It's been one of the toughest years for me filled with some much anxiety and stress but the minute I gave this album a shot, all that shit went away and instantly felt so much better. My brother died in 2009. He was the victim of a drunk driving accident, he was 26 years old when he passed and his favourite band was tool. That was 10 years ago and I can clearly remember that the last thing we talked about was if tool would ever put out a new album, while sitting at the west Edmonton mall food courts, he said that they would and was very sure it would've been sometime that year. it wasn't that year. I didn't know who they were at the time but I carried on the conversation because I hadn't seen him in 4 years and just hearing his voice was liberating. He died two months later. When I was 17 years old, I thought this band was weird af because I didn't understand music yet. I'm 27 years old today, that's one year older than my brother was when he passed away and now i know why this was his favourite band of all time. It took 10 years and some heartbreak; but I get it.

As a 57 year old Marine veteran of 13 years, State Dept 2 years, and PMC for the past 10.. Being a warrior in all sense of a warrior to hear this song the first time I had tears after listening the first time. It so eloquently spelled out what I never was able to explain to others. I am now at a point of life where I can no longer search for the fountain.. This is too powerful a song and MJK sent it when I needed it. Tool music has been with me since the 90's and being in Albania. This whole album has helped me get through the pain and I mean pain physically and mentally from years of preparing to fight and the trauma of actually fighting. So I've been thinking about the meaning of 'Fear Inoculum' since the release, and it got me thinking about the meanings and overall vibes of other Tool albums Undertow is a dark, nihilistic and violent album. It's themes are abuse, addiction, violence and depravity. It feels like a torture dungeon or something. The music is brutal and unrelenting, with few moments of light or relief. Aenima is the most varied and therefore hard to pin down, but I think broadly its about the human mind and is a call to spiritual awakening. As such the music has a strange, trippy and unsettling vibe, that gets deep inside your brain. It feels more like a laboratory or a messy study. Lateralus is a deeply spiritual and humanistic album about the origins of human beings, our purpose, our relationships with others, and the nature of our own consciousness. It feels like an ancient temple or holy place, with its mystic rhythms and cryptic lyrics. 10000 Days is a very emotional record, its more about human nature in the personal sense, and our attitudes toward each other. It feels like an open landscape, a tapestry depicting the struggles of human beings and the nature of our societies. The music, with its tribal influences, supports this too. So Fear Inoculum, the clue is in the title, from the Latin Inoculus, means in the modern sense to immunise or protect against some disease or ailment. This album feels like a weird, alien landscape, with its droning, repetitive motifs and strange noises, along with that artwork. Human beings naturally fear the unknown, we fear the future, we fear ourselves. This album encourages us to confront those fears, confront what we fear because we are not familiar with it, innoculate ourselves against this fear and move forwards. It sounds alien and impenetrable, but is anything but, it affirms us to keep moving in spite of our fear.

Also 10,000 days was about Marie his mother an he deeply rooted religious beliefs that even though she was put into a coma that still was Gods plan for her an remained faithful until her death. Invincible is totally a Top 10 Tool song for me. The first few times I heard the song I didn't get it at all because it was so much slower and not hard hitting the whole time, like the older stuff. Seemed long and boring. Then one time I just had the song in my Playlist playing in the background not really paying attention while reading internet stuff. The build-up of the song is great and you need to be patient. The song is literally telling a story, starting out slow, building up, stopping, getting heavier, stopping and then a hardcore finale. Believe it or not you wish the song was LONGER once you're hooked on it. It literally seems like a 5 minute song that's over when you're just really getting into it.

... Uh, really lol no one's going to state the obvious here? Your 10 month old son will listen to anything. He will fall asleep to anything, when he's tired(non indicative of the object being enjoyed). This isn't about caring what I say. This is a fact.

I was fortunate enough to catch this album the minute it dropped on KZbin AND ... The first time I ever did PCP aka Angel Dust... I literally smoked a dipper and 5 minutes later I get a notification that Tool has new album out... I put my JBL headphones on and drifted into psychedelic nirvana.... Lasted 6 hours with effects waning at dawn... Truly amazing synchronicity on the part of the universe I must say ... I was never a Tool head before that day really but I am firmly in the Tool box now!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

First time I heard Invincible I was like.. meh just ok. Most of the new Tool songs are unlike earlier TOOL songs that are adrenaline pumping from start to finish. They start out slow and build up to more classic Tool at the end. I find all the songs on the new album are best listened to just playing in the background when your not really paying attention and focused on something else. Suddenly you're like 'This is really good'.

Brother you’re not a has been. We’ve seen hatred and We’ve seen love. As a veteran we’ve come to see both, we’ve embraced them. As in life, the cross section of our service to others knows no comparison. We’ve gone without both. We’ve self sacrificed like no other, like no other will ever understand. I cannot put into words our experiences. We’ve experienced both life and death, love and hate, both which is loved and hated. Life is cleaved to. Death is loathed. We have smiled at both in order to live, in order to die. Our Sacrifice endures for others freedoms. Live life so others may understand what we have given them. Spiral out. Following your/our will and wind.
