Adam Peterman | Training For Canyons 100k

Adam Peterman is a professional trail runner for HOKA living in Missoula, MT.
In 2022, the young phenom was on top of the world, winning the Western States 100 and Long Trail World Championship in the same season. Then he developed a stress fracture in his sacrum - a very serious injury that required time and diligence to recover from.
Now he’s back. This weekend, Adam takes on the Canyons 100k in an attempt to earn a Golden Ticket back to Western States. The workout we captured was a key litmus test Adam used to rebuild confidence in his body and his fitness.
The session:
- Mt. Sentinel uphill time trial
- 5x flat mile repeats

I don't want to be a flash in the pan sums up a lot what kind of mindset he still holds up. Being out of the sport for a year after winning some of the biggest races globally would have been surely a gut wrenching punch but support system he has around him pulled himself out of this rut for sure. Time for Adam TO BE IN THE BOX as he quotes it. And a great work by RYAN THROWER.!

A couple of weeks ago the first mile on my run was 1k feet of climb, while I wasn't going all out, I was pushing and it took me 29 min. I could not imagine doing that 10 min faster with almost twice the amount of climb. That is astounding to me. I told myself that I'd be happy if by the end of my training block I'd be happy getting that mile in under 20min, I wouldn't even attempt double that :) I'm very impressed with the capacity that can be built and that Adam definitely has.

Dude, adductors and groin injuries are THE WORST! It’s taken me 7 weeks to recover from similar injuries. It’s so easy to forget how those muscles are involved in EVERYTHING you do. And that makes it really difficult to heal from those types of injuries.
