Wow! I absolutely loved this video! I’m an Atlanta transplant myself and lived here for almost 30 years. I got a feeling of hometown pride watching this. From Freedom Parkway up through Buckhead I pictured myself driving to work at different jobs I had over the years. Atlanta really did change. Atlanta is more set up for the Olympics now than in 1996! Iconic Ponce de Leon would make a neat tour too! I also appreciate how your ride along went past the sites of the protest / riots we had only a few weeks prior. We are a diverse and peaceful city, cleaning the mess up straight away with the help of volunteer Atlanta citizens chipping in. Peaceful protests could be seen later in the afternoon throughout your route. Lately, as I get older, I also think about moving outside of Atlanta because the cost of living can be high. But this video represents what I love about living in Atlanta. Where else can you find such a groovy and pretty way of living!

I visited Atlanta Halloween weekend of 2016. I was there to see the Packers play the Falcons, which was a crushing defeat for Green Bay at the last minute. I was happy to see the Georgia Dome before it was replaced, great stadium by dome standards. The weather has incredibly hot & humid that weekend, which is uncharacteristic for Atlanta at that time of year (If I'm not mistaken.) Thank you for this video, Jim! I loved it very much - the music and the sights. it made me very nostalgic for my days as an Uber/Lyft/DoorDash/etc driver in Atlanta a few years ago. I know nostalgia for 2017 pales in comparison to nostalgia for 1982, but it's all I have...lol. I personally would love to hear your stories of pre-Olympics midtown/downtown...it's so bourgie now. I love seeing the photos of old Atlanta. It's shame not many people were able to take road videos of Atlanta back in the day. I've always wanted to know what it was like to drive on the connector before the rebuild. All the best from Tuscaloosa, Ala.!
@Freewayjim4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yeah parts along this ride were really gritty back in the 80s and 90s and Buckhead wasn't what it is today either. The connector, and just about all Atlanta Freeways before the rebuild was garbage, the connector especially, it was still using its pre-Interstate 1951 design in places.

Interesting geological Fact. At this point on Peachtree Street (@ 2:49) you cross the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico watershed divided. Note, starting @ 2:11-Piedmont Av and Andrew Young International Boulevard, you are traveling (West) up hill all the way to Peachtree St. Once on the West side of Peachtree St. you are traveling downhill. All the water on the East side of Peachtree St. flows Southeast to the Atlantic Ocean by way of the South River to the Ocmulgee River to the Atlamaha River to the Atlantic Ocean. I don’t know what it is but it’s such a kick when you drive through our town. And really... (!) Isn’t it the best way to see ATL? Down Peachtree through Midtown into Buckhead? Can’t tell you why but these are so relaxing and fascinating.

Thank you very much, glad you enjoy the videos....yes I agree, this the best route out of the city if you were wanting to show someone from out of town (and I had an out of towner with me which made it an easy call).

I’m glad to see we are finally getting serious in the city about replacing the old terrible embarrassing wire span traffic lights (of which I still saw far too many in this great street vid) with mast arm ones more appropriate for a modern American city. I’ve never been in another one that still has then at ALL that I can recall, let alone all over the place in the core city of the 8th largest metro in the country. Weird pet peeve I know but I just hate them they look terrible and it makes me feel like I’m in some backwater town too broke to afford even the basics of modern infrastructure. I’ve given up on decent signage and street landscaping and upkeep, will never happen here and I now kind of enjoy it as part of the city’s funky charm. And all of Little Five Points intersection has mast arm signals and I see more going up all over town. Nice!

I think there’s an error at the end you said it was filmed @10:35 pm . Please correct me if I’m wrong but I really enjoyed the video and the music too so amazing unlike other people posting mute videos without music.

You are the 4th person to mention it, I use templates for things like that and I simply forgot to change the P to an A, more importantly, the time is correct at the start of the video ;). And thank you on the video and music, glad you enjoyed it.

This video got backed up and the first song is muted due to copyright. The streets of Atlanta looked amazing there. There were only a bit of people around the streets due to this pandemic.

I went to Atlanta back in the summer of 2019 I have to that ATL has some amazing architecture it reminds me of how Kansas City was built and how the buildings are there. I’d like to come back to Atlanta one day.

Giving me flashbacks from last month when I went to Atlanta for the first time the 3rd weekend in October, I wanted to drive around and tour downtown by myself primarily downtown, and somehow I got caught in the Clemson-Georgia Tech traffic for about 30 minutes then next thing I know I was racing on the interstate like what the hell just happened...thank God for voice GPS navigation

Nice video. Like the Atlanta area. Flew in to visit one day. Took MARTA to Peachtree Station, up escalator was out of service. When I got to street, turned walked toward Centennial Pl and was all excited to see Waffle House sign. Got there, and sign was up but inside still under construction lol. Finally ate there on a later trip.... Went to Lenox Sq mall just a bit after Falcons lost SB. If not for a small kiosk, nary a piece of Falcon gear... ;) Hoping to get there again for a couple other things I'd like to see. Take care.
