I assume that inside a bag when camera not fixed it will pop off. Those empty rings are threaded as well? Can I put my filter on empty ring and magnetically connect with another one?

I've never had a problem with anything just popping off. You can, though sometimes stacking filters can create some mechanical vignette.

Did you (or one of your viewers) notice vignetting on wide angle lenses with the Freewell filters? Just watched a review of Kase filters (same magnetic system) where the reviewer said that you have to choose one size larger on wide angle lenses to avoid vignetting ... not sure if I can use a 82mm Freewell on my 82mm Nikon 14-30 without getting dark corners.
@DustinAbbottTWI3 жыл бұрын
I didn't notice that myself, but that tends to something lens specific, too. Some lenses have more tolerance than others for the kind of mechanical vignette you describe. The Freewell filters are about as slim as I've seen, though.

I would say that the Polar Pro filters have a tiny edge - but probably not noticeable without comparing them side by side.

Very interesting filter. I want to get their CPL. do you have a hard time adjusting the filter since it’s magnetic? I have a 77 mm lens and want to use a step up ring to fit their 82 mm. Does it work well on a step up ring? Thanks in advance

It works very well, as the rotating portion isn't the same as the magnetic portion. They are nice filters.

Do you have a 16-35mm to test this on? I've read almost everywhere that such magnetic filters bring in very heavy mechanical vignetting at 16-17mm end. After digging around, I've decided to stay away from them. Can't find any information online at the moment.
@DustinAbbottTWI5 жыл бұрын
I don't have the 16-35 on hand. I would be very surprised if that is true, however, as the total thickness (what would cause mechanical vignette) is slimmer than most all CP-L filters I've used.

I use UV filters on my zoom lenses but not on my primes. (I do technically use a UV on my Canon nFD 50 1.4 but more so because the filter has a pink cast that I like) My zoom lenses usually take more of a beating from the elements, mess at parties/festivals, and knocks while hanging at my hip. The use of filters seals my Canon 16-35 f4 IS against moisture but for the most part filters are there so that I can rub off some dirt/salt with improper lens cleaning aids (like a coat cuff). In the event of a dropped or banged lens, filters protect the native filter thread and it's saved some other people from broken front elements! Much easier to toss a $40 piece of glass than a $1,500 one. Regarding this kit specifically, it's neat... The lens cap is of interest to me but I'm not about to buy all magnetic mounts for each of my lenses and all new filters. Also, I highly doubt that magnetic filters would protect a lens from bumps and bangs as much as a conventional one (likely instead falling off or sliding out of the way of the impact). Another concern I have for these is for the lens cap..... Are the edges of the caps metal? I'd never trust a metal cap in my bag, just in case it were to fall off and float around my bag, a plastic cap won't be able to scratch up a lens element.
@DustinAbbottTWI5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the edges of the lens cap are metal. I would assume that the portion of the filter system that you thread on would still protect the threads if the lens were dropped much like a slim filter would, though no glass would necessarily be in place unless you had a filter mounted. I used UV filters religiously for years, and then realize that in my case they were actually limiting my performance while not adding any discernible benefit.
@Ava-wu4qp5 жыл бұрын
@@DustinAbbottTWI Thank you. I'll keep my UV filter for my 16-35, 28-75, and 70-200 just so I can take comfort in being a bit rough with them at a hectic event. As for these magnetic lens caps, I'd highly encourage this company to include a plastic/rubber lip on the edges whenever they next change their product design and they might convince me to buy in.

@@bsarad52 4k relaxing? Can't understand you. For a 4k camera, the Nikon Z6 is at the top with internal 10-bit, N-log, very good AF and tracking etc, giant lens pool. If you don't care about 10-bit and whatever-log, then the a7m3 is decent. The older a7s2 is pretty good as well, along with many budget options that have smaller sensors. @@DustinAbbottTWI Thanks for your reply. Just a couple more quick questions if you don't mind. Is there any issue at all with filters or lens caps falling off? In other words, do I need to be careful? And secondly, Did you find issues removing just the lens cap but inadvertently removing the filter in the process?
@waynelast16853 жыл бұрын
I'm a newbie. I wish I would have researched filters ore before I bought some screw-on types. I am also an engineer by day and it amazes me how complicated the manufacturers make filter design and function. For example, trying to get filters that will work with lens hoods. And you need a different filter for every len and/or lens hood. And then worry about the vignetting and color casts. And then take on and off dirtying up your lens and filter and taking a long time. The FREEWELL filters have the right idea. I wish they would make cameras with filters built-in, mechanically or optically. I know expensive video cameras have ND filters. My question is can you use any lens hood with these FREEWELL filters?
@DustinAbbottTWI3 жыл бұрын
Whether or not you can use a hood does depend on the specific lens and how much room is left between the filter and the edges of the hood.

System looks promessing but be aware if you want to use it without the nd without the uv because the system dose not come with the extra ring which looks like the Freewell has included for all tester but then decided not to included for public which socks, even my self I was convinced the the ring comes with the system after watching all videos here on youtube, I didn't reed the fine print, so I have look up online and it looks like they don't even have one for sale, exept the step up rings which doesn't solve the problem. Well, I know its lot of work to revise the review but maybe add few second to the end with info that the extra ring is not included, I would prefer not to use uv when I have nd on the lens. I will be contacting freewell in this regard. I'm not asking for free one but can we but one.
@pixleysyt5 жыл бұрын
I hav the opposite problem. The cap stays on so well I couldn’t get it off if I have a hood on. The deeper the hood the worse the problem. A black pop stopper used on smart phone cases solved the problem perfectly. Stick it on the lens cap and there’s plenty to grab to get it off.
