Freewing F9F-8 Cougar 80mm EDF Shakedown Flight with Brent Hecht!

Master Modeler Brent Hecht performs a shakedown flight with his newly acquired Freewing F9F-8 Cougar in Arvin California! This beautiful little EDF jet was released by Freewing in May 2023 and is a very nice, compact EDF jet that certainly looks the part! Watch as Brent puts this beauty through her paces and really shows what she can do! MAN, can that thing can scoot right along!

Man John I'm impressed with this jet. They fly so good. I get what Brent is saying on the size, but I actually prefer the 80mm over the 90mm stuff. The performance is still there and the flight times on the 80s are great. It's nice to fly for 5 minutes vs 3. They (FW) did goof on that front decal. They also claim it's the first 80mm with super scale CNC painted landing gear, which is not true...the 80mm E-Flite Thunderbirds F-16 was the first to have that. Still though, it is a great jet and I'm glad to see another scale, full featured 80mm.

Thanks so much Adam for checking in! I really enjoyed watching Brent put this one through it's paces, and it sure did look like it flew bigger than 80mm. I flew it later on and thought she had plenty of pep for me, and man did it do pretty, scale looking rolls. Settled in nice and slow during approach and landing, heck, might have even felt a bit floaty in ground effect. Nice little jet overall! Blue skies to you and Heidi my friend!!

I'm sure Brent is running slightly aft CG than what the factory recommends. He usually just shifts it back in small increments until it lands beautifully. Cheers my friend!!

I'd like to see motion pictures use RC aircraft since, once in the air, they really look authentic. Sorry, but CGI doesn't cut it.

I completely agree brother! They used to use RC planes in the not so distant past, but once CGI came along, that was all she wrote. If you search my channel, the SAAB J35 Draken by Rodger Hecht was made from the molds used to make the model jet flown in the movie "Firebirds" from 1990 😎👍

Cougars are pussy cats...i remember back in the day the JHH cougar was very forgiving. Brent had one he built it flew great. Nice vid and flying on this flight. Thanks John take care brother.
