Freewrite Traveler Review & Tutorial

I got a Freewrite Traveler in October, won NaNoWriMo, and drafted an entire 85k word novel on it. But what do I think of it? Full review on the device, and in-depth tutorial section to help you make the best decision for yourself.

@@SIMulatedSara I have several. One for each mood. Each of them has their own soul. It is something about each style that inspires different stories, times, places, and that exquisite sweet taste of inspirational boredom, which is excellent for the creative process.

I bought one in February and plan to claim it on my taxes as a work expense. I draft documentation, mass emails, ideas, notes all for work on it in folder one. My wife had the same response as your husband. I'm a generalist writer but that's okay. How many people who bought typewriters become published authors?

Nice, how do you like yours? I hope you're enjoying it, and getting a lot done! I have no idea about the ratio of people who buy it to published authors. That would be an interesting statistic to see though

My dear woman. I did not expect a 1.5 hour video when I asked for an review, but I enjoyed every minute of it so thank you! Love how you magically filled your cart and address and bought it :D I can totally understand the tiny bit of anxiety when you spend so much money on a tool that can only be used for one thing. I splurged over 600€ on a Supernote because I draft by hand but hated transferring the words from paper to the computer. I bought the device two years ago and have not regretted that purchase even a second. I use it so much when drafting that it has payed it's price multiple times just by the time I have spent using it. The device can be used many other ways and I've tried. I tried shifting my calendar to it with the calendar integration, I tried using it as a bullet journal and note taking but I find it too clunky. It's a great tool when writing forward so I use it now only as a journal/drafting device. Basically for things I don't need to go back and read after I'm done writing. It's a privilege to be able to spend this much money on a tool but if you honestly use it and it helps you get the work done, then it is worth spending the money (if you can afford it). Just wondering were you ever tempted by the original Freewrite or was this your only choice from the start? And were you ever tempted with an AlphaSmart?

@@angrycatplans I've had this video idea on my mind for some time. I'm so glad you found it helpful. A huge chunk of the video is just a tutorial on how it works, so not useful for some folks. I love that you've found it so useful, and using it as a journal is a great idea! The Traveler was my choice from the start, I didn't have any interest in the other mode because I really wanted the portability. Same for the Alphasmart. Neither of those models are small enough for me. At that point, I could just take my laptop with me. I could definitely see the allure of those devices for folks who almost always write at home though.
