Freezer of my whirlpool refrigerator won’t open, what to do.

We had the same problem with the exact same model. Fixed it in 5 minutes without having to shut down the fridge for 24 hours. 5 minutes with a blow dryer on the stuck rail will solve the problem without having to shut the whole fridge down for 24 hours. Just FYI! 4:43pm 2/5/23

Thank you for posting this video. I am having this exact problem with my Whirlpool Gold Series fridge. I unplugged the fridge. I put the fresh food on ice, and I am now waiting for the ice in the freezer to melt. I hope that I can get the freezer open without having to call a technician out to help. Also, the refrigerator has been leaking water, at the bottom, for about a month also.

No, it did not open for me after I unplugged it. I ended up calling a technician out, who used a high powered blow dryer type device to melt the ice. The technician explained that there was a part in the back of the freezer that required maintenance, and it caused the freezing problem. It took him maybe 2 hours to get the freezer open.

I want to add that I now have the whirlpool technician come out on an annual basis to clean and exam all my appliances, just to make certain that they are all running well. It's a preventative measure. It costs me maybe $250, but it's worth it. He checks the washer and dryer, cleaning lent trays in the dryer (in the home and outside the home). The frig has that tube that can freeze, so that's checked and drained, if needed. The dishwasher is checked and my stove. Not sure what is reviewed on this last two.

Thank you! I tried your advice and once I unplugged it for 24-36 hours it opened smoothly. Big chunks of ice fell from the side. Food was still cold and some were still frozen. Hard problem became an easy fix. Thanks again!

Sir - Thank You for your help and advice - a way to by pass 24 hour shut down is use a “hair dryer on hot with air flow” not a heat gun to thaw the ice and loosen up the railing and tracks - then get some track grease from the appliance store and lubricate the rails - Thank you Sir
