Many years ago, I did a lot of hunting and filling my freezer for the year and loving it. Then a few months after my wife died, I had gotten called half way across the country for 3 weeks. It felt good to get back home and settle back into my normal routine, but when I opened the door and walked into my house, I was driven right back outside, from the smell of rotten meat. Long story short, the compressor on my upright freezer quit working and I ended up losing over 200 lbs of wild game. Since that time, I retired and no longer hunt large game, after I moved into my off grid cabin. I do have a small chest freezer but now it's for temporary storage only. If I plan on storing anything over a month, it either gets pressure canned, dehydrated, cured and smoked, pickled, vacuum sealed, or fermented.

I feel ya I got alarms for everything after I lost mine and I still try to can or freeze dry most. It's just green peppers lol Blessings

I cleaned one freezer today to make room for our cow that we picked up a little bit ago. Love love love your shirt! I cook my oxtail in the crockpot with a little liquid and favorite spices--I like thyme and rosemary. The juice makes a good gravy when you add a roux to it. We like it with rice. Have a blessed Independence Day tomorrow.

Hi Bexar! Oxtail soup is so good. My ex mother in law used to make it in the winter and I wish I had her recipe. I had a freezer go kaput and I can’t wait for another one. Have a blessed week!
