Thank you!! We so could not afford a repair right now (medical bills). It took me longer (20-30 min with the hair dryer & using a plastic wedge to gently scrape & break up the ice) because the ice had built up while I had been looking for answers & repeatedly got sidetracked by other emergencies, but everything was just like you said. God bless you!!

This is my second time around about a year later and it was really filled with ice (so it looks like I have to do this about 2x year to keep the ice from building up too much). Anyway, this time, after melting the ice with a hair dryer, when I put about a cup of hot water down the drain, it cleared but it may have overflowed the drain pan since there's now a pool of water on the garage floor (the floor is not the issue). My question is, if I accidentally poured too much water down the drain and the drain pan got that full that it overflowed, will the condensor eventually evaporate it because if the drain pan is accessed from the back, there no way I can get to the back of our 2008 upright frigidaire freezer. Thanks for you help.@@PhillipBridgesReviews

If your defrost heater is working properly, get a bare copper wire clipped onto defrost heater bent down in the drain - metal to metal contact needed. There will be something to stop hot air from getting in the compartment from the drain - do not touch it with the wire, clip it just short of this item. If the air prevention item is a rubber cap with a slit in it, clean it with Goo Gone so it is not sticky and sticking closed. Or get a better drain kit from the manufacturer that has a P-trap in it. Good luck!

I have a Frigidaire freezer which looks exactly like this one and I had the same problem. Found water leaking from somewhere and found the whole back area was frozen over. I used a hair dryer as well with towels to melt the ice and remove water. Word of caution: that split in the sheet metal is razor sharp and I am bleeding as I write this. Be careful when putting fingers around or past that split to feel in the drain hole. I actually had to disconnect the plastic drain tube from underneath, and then push a pipe cleaner brush up from under to clear the last piece of ice out of the hole to clear it. Still not sure what clogged it - no food particles found but it is clear now. Thank you for making this video.

Many frost free freezers have the problem of the drain freezing up, especially in areas of high humidity where the evaporator could frost up easily. A permanent fix is to attach a heater probe that attaches to the defrost element and probes down the drain. It heats up and keeps the water from freezing in the drain.

Usually it’s little food particles or a piece of ice that doesn’t defrost all the way and get clogged in the drain line when the freezer goes through a defrost cycle. It’s seems to be kind of like a roll of the dice. I have had it happen twice in the seven years I have had my freezer. I try to wipe down and clean out my freezer about twice a year. Usually, when the time change happens. So it doesn’t happen. *side note* when I do clean it out, I pour a cup of hot water down the drain just to free up anything. The times it has clogged I neglected to do this. This seems to work for me. Hopefully it helps you out. Thanks for watching 😃

@@PhillipBridgesReviews I did the same repair today. There is a replacement drain tube kit put out by the manufacturer which is better than the original to keep it from clogging up. Hopefully, mine won't be clogging up and having to take the freezer apart to thaw it out again.

Hey Phillip, I got a new LG french doors kept in my garage (so not hooked up to H2O) and each day we find water under the freezer, also the freezer maxes at 3-7 degrees, not zero. Any clues my friend? Thanks much
@PhillipBridgesReviews2 жыл бұрын
I would check to see if there is anything in the defrost tube that is blocking water being drained down to the condenser. Like maybe a piece of foam from packaging. Also, I know you said it’s new but still check the evaporation pan. It might have a hair line crack that is allowing water to leak onto the floor. How full is the freezer? Sometimes I have found that I put a bulky item in the way and is restricting the circulation of air causing the temperature not cool properly. Move things around if that is the case. Check the coils too. Make sure dust or a piece of packaging from shipping is not stuck around there. Those are my thoughts. Thanks for an awesome question. 😎

Dixie Odie* They just don’t make things as good as they used to 😕. But I also suspect that this leaking problem may be more common in the freezers made with an automatic defrost system. Seems like they just traded one inconvenience for another one.🙄 Or worse… it created a big expense for some people who may have given up and just replaced their freezer 🙁💸
@dodieodie4983 жыл бұрын
@@laurice8056 Agreed. And there's the expense resulting from the damage that can occur with leakage and the price for a repairman (if you can find one), both of which I can speak to personally.

This doesn't seem like a "complete solution", it seems like a band-aid approach. Do you do this every couple months?! Seems like a huge design flaw in the freezer. And why does it happen every other month (assuming no band-aid fix in between), is the freezer melting it on its own every other month? Please expound, Phillip. Thx.

Don't do this. Never partially thaw frozen foods. Remove all foods and store below 32°F. Bacteria colonies quickly multiply. Dairy and seafood are especially vulnerable.
