Your before-bed philosophical monologue is almost word-for-word the same as mine. I absolutely LOVE living here in the mountains of NW Maine, having a fairly sound body that lets me do the physically strenuous stuff I like to do, and a job that pays well enough that I can buy the gear I need while still living well within my means. Looking up at the stars in the night sky, having the capability of understanding some of what you’re looking at, all you can really say is “I fucking LOVE being alive!”

Big fan of PHD had their kit since 2012. Totally transforms outdoor life into an easier life. Don't have your specific items but their Minim 300, combo bag and those combined get me into every situation. Buy cheap buy twice, kit still working fine is doubled in price.

I have the PHD Minimus sleeping bag for the last eight years for Summer use which can fit into a Wiggys outerbag for colder temperatures, one thing I have my doubts about down sleeping bags is the fact that by laying on it compresses the down reducing the thermal qualities significantly. You’re lucky you didn’t waken to frost nip on your face as you should have worn a full face balaclava and a diy fleece frost guard against your breath frosting the sleeping bag. Anyway keep up the thoughtful content, cheers. 👍

I remember some 40 years ago I was up in the north of Sweden just by our tallest mountain. It was freezing cold, I mean really cold. Slept on the snow just like you. Woke up in the morning and was convinced I had peed myself… during the night it came down a foot of snow which melted on on sleeping bag and on the mat. Luckily it was the last night and not to far from the car. At that point good bivvy bags hardly exist. Now I have one😅 great adventure again.

Love your videos - especially these winter camping videos. I have not tried winter camping yet, jus done a few summer ones. Your sleeping mat, I have heard if you blow into the bag pump (if thas the right words to describe it) it creates moisture inside your mat and eventually the moisture can destroy the fibres inside your bag. I am not sure how true this is, but am interested to hear what you think (and other people). What are your opinions?

The Thermarest NXT (R7.3) is among the best & warmest inflatable air mattresses now available. It's 70D ground side material is bulletproof - not likely to be punctured. I like the 1/4 length zipper. I'd prefer it to be centered rather than side. Excellent, first of the morning footage. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada, U.S.A.

@getlostrobyn54983 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I don't think it's fair to say Mountain Equipment is a highstreet brand. Pete wasn't comfortable running a massive company delegating to others. When it went into receivership he took the opportunity to step away. M.E. has always been a company aimed at climbers it's just that PHD is focused on bespoke expedition and exploration gear. Super light weight comes at the cost of reduced lifespan.

@BUSHMANandBLUEКүн бұрын
If you buy gear for the ‘aesthetics’ then you are buying it to make yourself look good. This brand is NOT about that at all! It’s all about function and performance maximising the warmth to weight ratio, designed, as said, for the more serious adventurers and explorers around the world.
@DivigКүн бұрын
Well... it *is* PPE/workwear for extreme conditions. Is it not? Protection against cold for people who go into extreme conditions. (Sure, that is probably not in England, but why not dream?)

This kit is designed to be used by professionals, rather than high-street mountaineers, hence the very utilitarian look. It's certainly out of the casual outdoorsman's buget, but I suppose you can justify spending that kind of money on kit when your survival literally depends on it.
